We booked this hotel after reading reviews. This was our first trip to New York. The only negative I can think of is that you had to walk up 1 flight to get to the elevator. It was just a minor inconvenience when we were taking our luggage in and out the 1st and the last day.
Postives: Very clean, pretty new. We were on the third floor overlooking the subway. You could hear it but it did not bother us at all. We found it very cool, actually! The bathroom was spotless, we had plenty of clean towels, soap and shampoo. We never had a problem w/ hot water either.
The beds were very comfortable and were made daily. The room was a little small but what do you expect for New York! I'll take clean and comfy over size any day!
We had a small frig in the room which was great. There are several drug stores close by so we bought sodas to keep in the room to save money.
The desk staff were very nice and helpful. We were even allowed to store our luggage after check out on our last day to allow a little more time for sight seeing before our flight.
The location was great! We were 2 short blocks from a subway station. We found it very easy to get to Manhattan...15-20 minute train ride. We felt very safe walking back and forth no matter what time we were out.The area is about a 15-20 cab ride from La Guardia and the ride cost about $17 for the 3 of us.
The hotel included free breakfast. It consisted of doughnuts (the 17 year old loved)bagels, toast, bananas, cereal, hot cocoa and coffee. They were very prompt at bringing out more items as they were taken.
They are quite a few restaurants in the area. A McDonald's and Burger King and several ethnic places, such as Italian. The best place, though, is a place called Pete's Grill. We ate there on our first night and went every night for the next 5 nights! The place is fairly new and very clean, and the people who work there are fantastic! The menu is very extensive and diverse. Everything we had was fresh and presented nicely. The prices are not huge either and you get a ton of food! You can pick up and they also offer free delivery , as well. Check it out if you stay here!
All in all, we were very pleased with La Quinta Inn, Queens and would stay there again if we ever go back to the Big Apple!

“Fantastic hotel for visiting New York”

La Quinta Inn Queens

This hotel is an awesome place to stay if you are trying to visit New York city on a budget. It is easy to get to from Laguardia, and there is a subway stop 3 blocks from the hotel. The #7 train goes right to Times Square and Grand Central station, and only takes 20-30 minutes. It is a very easy walk from the subway station to the hotel. The street is well-lit and we always felt safe, even coming back to the hotel after midnight.

The staff at the hotel was very polite and efficient and got us checked in and out quickly. We were worried about what to do with our luggage in the 6 hours between check-out time and when our flight left on Sunday, but we were able to leave our luggage behind the front desk of the hotel and pick it up on our way to the airport. We didn't expect this service from a budget hotel and were pleasantly surprised by how well it worked out.

The rooms at the hotel were very clean, including the bathrooms, and the bedding and furniture seemed new. The water pressure in the shower is even good! Our room was on the back of the hotel and was very quiet - we never heard any other guests or traffic noise. The one negative about the room was that the beds were a little on the hard side.

Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel for people trying to visit Manhattan on a budget. It is very convenient, safe and clean, and very reasonably priced compared with anything in Manhattan.

You can't beat this hotel for value in New York City. The 7 train station is 3 blocks away, and will take you into Manhattan in minutes, where everyone else is staying for over twice the price as you! In a nice area, we never felt unsafe walking, even at night. A variety of restaurants within a 5 minute walk, even a White Castle! The rooms are small, but not for New York. They are clean, and on our side of the hotel, had a view of the city skyline. This is the perfect hotel to use as a "base of opertations" for your trip. The only real down sides were a poor cable TV selection, and most of the staff spoke broken english. They were all very nice, and tried to be helpful at all times, but were just difficult to understand.

“LA QUINTA INN an inexpensive GREAT find and still so close by Manhattan”

La Quinta Inn Queens

3/3 found this review helpful

we had our mind set on staying at a MANHATTAN hotel but most alternatives (cheaper ones) were fully booked so we decided on this after reading other reviews here, and I must say we were satisfied
it´s quite a new hotel - so not that worn down which midprice hotels on Manhattan usually are.
*Check in & out was fast
*Complimentary internet in the lobby - great!
*Complimentary breakfast GOOD but somewhat on the unhealthier side (lots of donuts to choose from) and less bread cereal (corn & branflakes), milk, applejuice, orangejuice, tea hot chocolate and different sort of coffea and Bananas
so since the breakfast was complimentary it´s OK but not great
*coffea also complimentary in the room
*from lobby you either have to walk down or up some stairs (they had some kind of lift to use for suitcases etc. but only accessable thru the staff
*area was nice, sure there was a lot of trafic at times but lots of trafic lights and speedcameras so it felt safe
*subway (#7) close 2½-4blocks away (in either direction) and we bought those 7day passes (kids below 44inches rides for free)
*buses (#35 and 60) runs 1block away from the hotel - we took the bus to a huge mall in Elmhurst/Queens (15mins ride) where they have Macys, JC.Pennys, a DisneyStore +++ and a good foodcourt too
*lots of different restaurants within 4blocks of the hotel
*we didn´t mind the noise from the subway (the noice was lower than we expected from earlier reviews)
*OK rooms and great bathrooms (we didn´t notice -low pressure on the water nor that the water temperature was to vary - for all of us and we were 4 in the room we never had any bad experience with that)

* I certainly would stay here again - prefer to spend my money on shopping rather than the hotel (forgot to mention earlier that the beds were nice and comfy - and I have problems with my back from time to time so I´m on the sensitive side / speaking of beds)

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — inexpensive, clean, OK location and close to subway/buses
    • Disliked — the elevator didn´t run from the lobby (½staircase up or down) and breakfast could be better

“Great Hotel”

The hotel is a great bargain. Stayed 3 nights for about $450 total. Would of paid that for one night in Manhattan for a lesser room. The hotel is only about 2 years old. The rooms are big and the beds slept great. The room had a nice private bathroom. The front desk clerks were helpful and friendly. The 7 Train is located right next to the hotel. The subway stop is only 2 blocks away. You can be in Times Square in 15-20 minutes top. The area is safe and well lit at night. I will stay here again on my next trip to New York.
