We stayed for a week with two children who are 8 and 10.The location of this hotel more than made up for small room, which was still good value as only 5 subway stops to Times Square.Walk to subway about 10 minutes Surrounding neighbourhood was safe, even at night and local restaurants deliver to hotel, but are still close enough to walk to.Check in was a bit disappointing after a 21 hour flight. Not very friendly and no local information given out. However this may have just been down to particular person on duty.Breakfast was exactly as advertised, mostly sugary cereals, pastries, and cinnamon rolls however yoghurt and fresh fruit available erveryday.Would definitely recommend if trying to do New York on a budget ,

“Great money saving alternative to Manhattan”

I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to see NYC on a budget. The Holiday Inn in Manhattan was roughly $450 a night, so for less than half that price I was able to stay in Queens. Not much going on in this neighborhood, but the purpose of my vacation was to see Manhattan anyway. The subway station was a 15 minute walk, but a cab ride into the city never cost me more than $25. The staff at this hotel are awesome, very friendly and helpful. I can't say I've been to too many hotels where I had such great service. Breakfast was included, consisted of bagels, french toast, cinnamon rolls, hot and cold cereal, fruit and croissants. Rooms were very clean, with comfortable beds. The views aren't great, mine was of the expressway with a cemetary behind it, but I didn't spend much time in the room to care.
I got everything I expected out of this hotel: a great breakfast, great price, comfort, helpful staff, clean room and bathroom.
Save your money, stay here, and splurge in the city!

“Great hotel, fantastic staff - great for those on a budget”

We were really stuck for accomodation as we booked flights at the last minute - we eventually managed to book rooms at a surprisingly cheap rate at the Holiday Inn Express Queens.

When we arrived, we were checked in quickly, the room was comfortable, shower was fantastic!

Had a few problems with lost property on the taxi from the airport to the hotel and the hotel staff bent over backwards to help.

Also, on the way from the airport, the taxi driver got lost - we phoned the hotel and an obliging member of staff actually walked to come and find us! I haven't come across a better service!

Would definitely stay here again - highly reccommended.

“Good Value”

If you're not afraid of a little adventure and walking, staying at the Holiday Inn Express is a cost effective, fairly convenient, safe, and comfortable alternative to the high cost hotels in downtown Manhattan. This was our first time to New York City and with a little internet homework before arriving, my girlfriend and I were able to navigate the subways and city streets to see and do everything we wanted in a mere 5 days. We were able to get to the hotel via AirTran to the E to the #7 subways (saving us a $55 taxi fare). The subway stop for the hotel is Lowery/40th Street. It's a good 10-15 minute walk through a Queens neighborhood to the hotel, but we never felt in any danger. There are a few restaurants and grocery stores on the way. We highly recommend Nita's European Bakery for some extra special (and cheap) treats. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable (although our "garden level" room was a tad musty smelling). The staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast (toast, pastries, cereal, bagels, juice, etc.) was enough to get us going every morning. We were able to check in early and when it came time to check-out, the staff stored our luggage for us before we had to go to the airport. Overall, I have only good things to say about this hotel and our interaction with the kind people of New York. We hope to be back some day!

“Great Value Minutes from Manhatten”

Holiday Inn Express Queens/Midtown Tunnel

We stayed here before because of the convenient location and the price is right and we'd do it again. The breakfast is great, the staff is efficient and accomodating. Yes, the schlep to the Subway is a little inconvenient but if you are not up to doing a lot of walking New York is not going to be a fun trip for you. Ask for a room facing the back of the building since the front faces the expressway. There are some nice restaurants on Queens Boulevard about a 15 minute walk away, e.g. Sidetracks. Save your money and stay here. As anyone will tell you, you will pay 2 - 3 times the price to stay in Manhatten. If you do find something around the same price in Manhatten it probably isn't very good. The room was clean and comfortable. If you're driving in you'll really save money staying here- the parking is free and anywhere in Manhatten you'll pay $20 or more per day to park. Sleep cheap and comfortable!
