“Nice”

Holiday Inn Ithaca

4 of 5 stars
Finger Lakes New York
Aug 8, 2007

We got the Hoiday Inn and the Best Western University Inn on Priceline (long story) and although we paid a bit less for the Best Western, the Holiday Inn was far superior. The room was on the cramped side, but very clean and comfortable. The overall appearance of the hotel is very nice and well kept. The pool (indoor) is kept in fairly good condition.

“OK stay, but minor problems”

Upon arrival I was told that the computers were temporarily down, but should be up soon. They gave me a end room, in the newer two story section to the left of the lobby (room 232). The limited hotel parking lot was completely full, so I had to park accross the street in the high-rise parking garage, which was not that inconvienent. The room was very clean and fresh, but a tray outside my room with half eaten food remained there until I asked for it to be removed the next morning. In the morning, they had a coffee tray setup on a table in the lobby, but at 9am both carafes were empty, but they told me to go the the restaurant and they would give me coffee... again... no big deal. There were no pay movie channels, but I'm not sure if that was because of the computer outage. Checking out the next day, the computer was still down, but they promised to send me my bill in the mail.

I was with 4 other couples, the two in the tower rooms complained of a musty smell (I did not see these rooms), and the other stayed in a one bedroom suite (in the other new section) which was all the way at the end of the other side of the hotel. The room was a regular room and a connecting "room" which was very narrow, had 2 double beds, but no bathroom, so the bathroom in the main room was shared. Strange, but it worked ok for the two other couples.

Location was good, it was only a block and a half to the commons, and there were several restaurants and bar-type places close by. I did not eat at the hotel restaurant.

I'd stay here again, just for the proximity to the Commons area, but at $169 it's a bit overpriced

“I beg to differ!”

I just returned from a stay at this hotel and respecfully disagree with the less-than-favorable previous responses. My room was well appointed, and immaculate. Although it appeared that many events were being hosted (There were rows of gift baskets behind the desk.) , the staff at the front desk were attentive to everyone's needs. Yes...it IS an older hotel, but it has kept pace with the times. The location downtown is great; parking is convenient As an aside, I left my cell phone in the room and discovered it missing when I got home. Housekeeping had secured it, turned it off to save the battery and were most accomodating about getting it returned to me!

This place is a dump, and the staff is unfriendly. I am learning to avoid Holiday Inns. This place was noisy and had water damage. No decent business facilities.

Stay somewhere else while in Ithaca.

“What a nightmare!”

We had made a reservation directly with the hotel, but even though we arrived at 4:30pm, our room was not ready! We were given a couple of free drink coupons and told it should be ready by 6:00, but when we came back after 6:00, it still was NOT ready!! One supervisor at the front desk was helpful--he seemed concerned and wanted to help, but was at the mercy of the inept housekeeping staff. After being given more drink coupons and a reduction in our hotel rate, we were made to wait some more. When our room was finally ready, we had to haul all our luggage up two flights of stairs to the second floor (no elevator to that portion of the hotel!) and when we got in we were disgusted to find that our "non-smoking" room REEKED of smoke! Again, we found our way back to the desk, had to wait for the one competent supervisor to come back to the desk (he was off putting out some other "fires") to rearrange our reservations. We then had to haul our luggage back down to the first floor to our new room on the first floor, which was missing pillowcases and had clearly been given the speedy version of a cleaning--sheets not put properly on the bed, stains on the comforter, hairs on the bathroom floor--UGH!! It was a night I hope to put out of my memory....
