“Horrible”

Hickory Grove Inn Bed and Breakfast

This property is absolutely HORRIBLE!!!! I booked this inn directly with the innkeeper, Marie back in March 2006 for a July 2006 stay. She insisted I send her a check for $300.00 as a deposit. When I arrived I was appalled to see the ramshackle condition of the place. The entryway was filthy with cat furr balls everywhere. Our room was located down the hall from a shared bath. This fact was never disclosed. Marie also never disclosed that her "inn" was pet friendly. To someone who has allergies and who has driven over 7 hours to get there, this is nhot welcome news. I had to make other arrangements upon arrival. The next day I waited for Marie and told her of my problems. She agreed to refund my money and said that she would mail me a check. I suggested that I return to the Inn and pick up my check. She did not seem pleased but agreed. The following morning I returned to find her in the basement. She would not come out to meet me. Instead she hollered out from the basement that she would not refund my money. I left the premises and immedaitely contacted the Chamber of Commerce. Seems that Marie and her husband were not allowed membership in the Chamber because of similar complaints. This information I received directly from the Chamber. I decided to file a Small Claims Complaint. I will drive the 7 hours each way just to get my day in Court. I am confident that I will get a judgment against the Inn and fully intend to pursue any and all legal remedies against them. Using the internet to lure unsuspecting people from out of state with the intent to steal their money is fraud. Do Not Send These People Any Money!!! You will be sorry if you do!!!

Never really got to stay at the inn. Basically had the same story as Lisa Clark. Our reservations were also canceled but we were never notified. We had reservations for two rooms for July 1st. Friends also had reservations for one room. Sent our deposits in as requested. Our friends called June 29th to confirm and were told they could not stay there. I then called and was told the same thing but that we would get our deposit back within 7-10 days. It is now Aug. 8th and we can't even get a reply from these owners much less our $200.00 deposit. I agree with Lisa, think very hard before sending any deposit to these people.

“Bad Experience with Hickory Grove Inn”

My reservation was cancelled by the owner or their designee not even 24 hours prior to my stay (6/30/06), and was told to expect a prompt refund. It is now 8/06/06 and I still do not have my deposit back after repeated telephoning, e-mailing and U.S. Mail. This is no way to run a business or to treat people. Please think long and hard about booking here.

“Hickory "Gross" Inn”

Hickory Grove Inn Bed and Breakfast

First we were greeted by the Inn Keeper that some referred to the Inn as the Munsters House at 1313 Mockingbird Lane with one kid even being afraid to get out of the family car. That child was the smart one because here is what we found.
You first enter the dilapatated structure through a slashed screen door to find a entrance under major reconstruction. We thought that perhaps the recent flooding had taken its toll however she said this was "8 years in the making." The back of the not so lovely Inn was falling apart, hadn't seen a paint brush for at least 20 years and the advertised business center, tavern room, arcade etc. didn't exist. We could go on and on to describe how the reality did not match the advertised desciption or lovely very old photos posted on hotels.com but instead we will let the attached pictures speak for themselves.
Our advice is for Matt and Marie to close down immediately until truly "ready to accomodate business" or charge $15 a night.

My girlfriend and I just had a two night stay at the Hickory Grove Inn

Innkeepers Matt and Marie are great hosts and were on top of everything --without being intrusive.

We took advantage of the lakeside privileges the Inn has, which includes a cute beach area with lounge chairs etc... very tranquil and romantic setting.

The inn has a great little bar area where guests 'bring their own' -- hang out watch TV (watched Agassi lose :( in US Open final) and play darts.

The porch has a partial view of the lake and is great place to kick back with a book and relax.

The room and breakfast were ordinary but well worth the very affordable price (75 per night).
