I thought I did my homework, but I picked a dud for our family's trip to Cooperstown. I was told on the phone that the unit we reserved, a 2-bedroom one, was very quiet. Reviews I read said it was clean and enjoyable, and the motel's website claims they have a "sandy beach". Well the unit wasn't filthy, but very dirty and worn out. It smelled moldy and had little ventilaltion. The unit is above the maintenance garage. There is noise from below starting right after 8am every morning and the unti smells of gas and chemicals unless the AC is on high. There is a game room right next to the unit and you can hear the video game noises 24 hours---the room is locked at 9pm, but the machines run constantly. One day, at 3:40pm, workers started drilling into the blacktop below our unit. The noise and exhaust were unbearable---on the afternoon we hoped to sit out on the lovely deck overlooking the lake. We got a partial refund, but we would rather the fresh air and deck use. Finally, the "beach" is a gravelly little spot. The paddleboats are fine, but there is only one rowboat and one of the oars doesn't work correctly. The afternoon desk "help" was extremely unhelpful: unable to answer basic questions about the area and seemed helpless when addressed with any issue described above. None of this would be so bad if the place wasn't so expensive. Spend your money and vacation elsewhere.
