“Lovely Stay at Cooperstown B&B”

Cooperstown Bed & Breakfast

Mar 24, 2008

My husband and I and our 2 kids stayed here for 2 nights. We booked room #2 because it had 2 twin beds for the kids and a queen for us. We had our own bathroom and the room was very clean, warm, and comfortable. Linda and John are the innkeepers and they were great people. Very friendly and inviting. We all felt at home, especially the kids who spent alot of time in the kitchen with Linda. The baking of goodies goes on all day. Brownies, muffins, cookies, etc. were constantly being prepared. The home smelled delicious, like a bakery. The breakfast was excellant. Anything you want, made to order. They are extremely accomodating. It was our first experience at a B&B and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The kids said they prefer it to a hotel. Linda also made them Easter baskets and gave us a plate of snacks for the car ride home. We would highly recommend this B&B and will be returning in the future.

I surprised my husband for his birthday with a trip to Cooperstown to see the Baseball Hall of Fame Museum. After researching several B&B's on line, I decided to book the Cooperstown B&B. When we arrived on Friday night, we were greeted with warm hospitality. John & Linda made us feel very much at home. The decor in their home is very inviting and the home made breakfasts were wonderful. We had a great weekend and would highly recommend staying at the Cooperstown B&B.

As a solo traveler who likes my privacy and is a little introverted, I had never been really interested in staying at a B&B. I didn't know whether it would be private and how much I would be expected to interact and make small talk with other guests. But the Cooperstown B&B had such wonderful reviews, and off-season rates, that I decided to give it a shot during a Thanksgiving weekend trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The first indication that this was a property not like others was when I called from home to make a reservation and my cell phone dropped the call. While I was scrambling for my home phone to call back, my cell phone rang. Linda hit the redial button on her end to continue the conversation and reservation. Now that's personalized service!

The property is small, just four guest rooms. The house is lovely and homey, the common areas nicely decorated and comfortable. The queen bed in my single room was luxurious (note that the room was fully handicapped-accessible). I slept great at night and woke up to the smell of breakfast cooking both mornings! During the day I was at the Baseball HOF, at night back at the B&B working on a research paper in the common room or my room. The B&B is just a ten-minute walk from the HOF and all the downtown restaurants and shops. And it was a great quiet atmosphere for a work retreat at night. And breakfast...mmm. Eggs, pancakes or French toast cooked to order, plus all the extras; meat, toast, fried potatoes, fruit, baked sweets. Google the name of the property and go to the website to see all the pictures; they represent the property very accurately.

Linda and John are every bit as warm and wonderful as every other reviewer has testified. I think they are in this business because they really like people. They were a wealth of information about the area. And they seem to attract people like themselves, as I really enjoyed chatting with them and the other guests over breakfast. John gave me different directions out of town that saved me a whole half-hour of driving! (If coming from northern New England, take Rt. 90 to Rt. 20 to County Rt. 31 which feeds directly onto Main St. in Cooperstown. 90 to 20 is easy; landmarks for the County Rt. 31 intersection are "Banana Dan's" on the left and "K.C.'s Corner Restaurant" on the right. Saves toll money and takes you right down the less developed side of the lake. Very pretty and relaxing drive!)

When I left, I felt like I was saying goodbye to new friends instead of just checking out. Linda said twice, "Call us when you get home," and I got a lump in my throat. I probably haven't heard those words from someone in twenty years. (And yes, I called!)

I'm already planning my next trip back to Cooperstown (there's so much more in the area than just baseball, although that's enough to get me there) and to the Cooperstown B&B. It deserves its top rating in every way!

I orginally booked over the phone with Linda, who was so sweet and very friendly. She recommended places and things for us to do. We had to switch dates and John was so helpful and very accomdating. My husband and I went there and John welcomed us in and our room was perfect. it was very clean and had lots of characters. Breakfast was great but most of all Linda's baked goods were wonderful. She was so sweet when we left she walked us out and gave us a plate of goodies. We can't stop talkign about her brownies and almond scones. She hugged me and really made us feel so comfortable. I highly recommend and plan to go back for winter carnival. They also have 2 cute dogs!!

Linda and John Smirk are friendly, accomodating people and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in the door. They were most helpful with guiding me where I wanted to go and even made dinner reservations for me. My room was clean, the bed comfortable and the bathroom was also clean. The walk to Main Street is about a 4 block walk, with the Baseball Hall of Fame at the opposite end of Main St. The breakfast was plentiful. John will fix you any type of egg you want and Linda bakes up a storm daily and whatever she makes is delicious. She gave me a plate of various goodies for my drive home. There is sausage, potatoes, breads, fruit, cereal, yogurt and other choices. You can't walk away hungry. I would definitely stay with them again.
