“Nice hotel in center of town”

Clarion Collection Grand Royale Hotel

5 of 5 stars
southern VA, USA

A terrific place, in the old courthouse, remodeled into a small hotel. The ad pictures show the courthouse in all it's glory, but the reality is that the front desk and entrance is in the back and not quite as impressive. The rooms are nicely done, mine was small, but well laid out. The hotel is very near the college bars, so there is a bit of noise on the weekends. I got a great last minute rate of $78, a bargain. The Holdiay Inn was going for $109 and the rooms were no larger or nicer. Check in and check out was a breeze. There is a continental breakfast and coffee and cookies in the early evening as well.

“Great Hotel, Perfect location, lots of extras”

This is truly a great hotel.
I have read the other reviews and agree with most of what they say. There are several rooms that are small. I would only recommend those here for an overnight with only oneself or a couple.
This was my third hotel in the area and, by far, the best, I stayed in the hotel for over two months. I recommend that you request a corner room (largest rooms with the exception of the incredible suites) if you are a group or have pets.
the breakfast is typical hotel continental style and they have just added a waffle maker, My understanding is it is under new managment.
the staff are friendly, helpful, and a joy to talk with.
When staying here, you have free parking in the middle of town, right across the street from 90% of the cities nightlife and best bars.
You have free membership to the YMCA/YWCA which are both within walking distance of the hotel.
Free drink during the weekday at one of the bars due to the hotel not having a bar.
Two minute walk to the Arena.
15 minute drive to the airport.
DSL box in the room for internet service, at first I was like, great, but now I know that it is much faster than any other hotels supposed " High speed" internet access.
The rooms are well kept and clean with maintenance personnel on site and available if you require anything.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to binghamton.

“Go Somewhere Else”

Clarion Collection Grand Royale Hotel

2 of 5 stars
Long Island, NY
Mar 29, 2008

The building is a historic landmark. It use to be City Hall and now it is a hotel. The room we had was the smallest that I ever stayed in. There were three of us and there was literally no way the three of of could be in the room at the same time without being asleep. The beds were very old and of the lowest quality imagineable. Plan to spend the entire night tossing and turning in bed. The ceiling in our room had some serious water staining and the paint was peeling off in certain spots. There are several bars across the street but they were not a problem for us. It was Sunday night. That part of Binghamton is pretty depressed so expect to see a lot of scary looking people roaming around day and night. I would definitely not recommend walking around that part of town at night unless you are armed.
The breakfast was ok but they had no tables and chairs in which you could sit, eat and read the paper.

“Awesome Hotel!”

Clarion Collection Grand Royale Hotel

My mom and I stayed here for a night and it was an awesome stay. The staff was really friendly, the room was clean and beautiful with a high ceiling. Plus, when you stay here you get tickets for free drinks at the pub right across the street!!
The beds were comfortable and there was barely any noise heard from the other people staying in the hotel, which is a problem I have experienced in many Choice hotels.

“Grand Royale - Good experience”

Clarion Collection Grand Royale Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Binghamton, NY

We spent the night at The Grand Royale Clarion Collection Hotel over the weekend. We had won an overnight stay at a local charity auction for a night in the bi-level Jacuzzi suite. The hotel itself was once the former city hall turned into a hotel and the rooms are adapted to the layout of the building. Keep that in mind when choosing a room because each room will have a different look based on where it is located.

Parking is either in the very small lot or at the ramp next to the building. We got there at 4pm and got a space in the lot.

The gentleman at the front desk was very personable.

Our suite was on the 6th floor. (Room 608) It was a very interesting room with very high ceilings and no windows except for the skylight at the way top. The room itself was very nice. Not too much furniture. Just a couch (not very comfortable) 2 chairs and the tv and a few tables. There was a microwave, small fridge and coffee maker also. The Jacuzzi was very nice. It was a few steps up to get into it and it was deep and the jets were awesome.

Upstairs was a loft type room where there was a king size bed and tv. It’s quite a ways up and you could look up at the skylight and see part of the building. Pretty cool.

Overall it was a great stay. There were cookies in the lobby at 7pm. We got there and the front desk gentleman let us sneak back and get first pick. The gentleman working that evening was great. He was checking up on everyone in the lobby and even called us to let us know when our pizza we ordered was on the way up. The room was clean except for a few cobwebs in the highest part of the ceiling. The Jacuzzi was awesome and the bed was comfortable.

On the downside - The downstairs was a bit cold. There is a heater on the wall that blows upward and a huge ceiling fan near the skylight that is supposed to help blow the heat back down. It didn’t work that great. The loft was comfy though. The other thing was the noise in the hotel overall. All night I heard creaking and cracking and the ceiling fan was also loud on and off. I didn’t sleep that great because of it. Not sure where the noises were coming from. Also in the morning I heard some kids crying the next suite over.

It was a nice night out overall and if you want to stay in a unique hotel then I would recommend the Grand Royale.
