“Excellent Location !!!!”

I was there for 2 nights this past weekend.
The staffers we dealt with were very helpful and friendly! The bar food was good, and not too expensive.... very convenient to go to Starbucks, the newscenter or the deli from inside the hotel gateway entrance. Excellent place to stay to attend concerts/sporting events at the Prudential center!!!! and an easy walk to the center. We had no problems with our bill, was what was booked online.

Honestly the only thing I can complain about is that there is NO easy way to get your luggage from the parking garage to the hotel!!!!! There are no elevators, just stairs. . or like we did, you had to drag your stuff thru the parking garage levels hoping a car didn't come, to get to the main entrance of the hotel!
To connect to the internet if you had a laptop was $9.95 from checkin til noon the next day - and the business center was a rip off - .69c /minute....good old days of free internet at hotels are over !

All in all an excellent stay! Room clean, beds comfy, bathroom a little on the small side.

Would def stay here again!!!!

“Decent for inner city, becareful booking via the web”

Hilton Newark Penn Station

I booked this hotel via Travelocity in June for a concert at the new Prudential Center Arena. The hotel itself is nothing much to look at inside or out. It's basically just a building with rooms. The rooms were decent, clean ,if non smoking, and comfortable. The windows were filthy due to smog, but you'd think this being a Hilton they'd clean them? Nice 32 inch flat screen, not super clear, but hey still nice. What I'm most upset about...I booked using Travelocity and was offered 3 rooms types, double bed, queen, king bed delux room. All for three different prices with the king delux the most expensive and this is what I chose. Knowing that all too often hotels don't honor their bookings/confirmations over the web. I first read the website carefully for anything indicating the room type was due to availability, nothing such listed. I called the hotel directly and explained I wanted to confirm my room type, king delux. I was assured I was confirmed and I explained when I arrived I did not want to be told the room type was not available which is why I was calling 4 mths early. I was assured it would be all set and available for me, Delux King. Still concernred I contacted Hilton Honors club and let them know I had not booked through them, but wanted to make sure I did not have a problem with the room type, again I was assured all was set. When I arrived at the hotel at 4:30 p.m. I was told rudely and with a stoic face my room was not yet ready and to return in 15 minutes. Um, check in is gauranteed starting at 3 p.m.? Maybe someone needs to tell the front desk. I knew immediately there was trouble. I returned, was given my room, a smoking room that smelled like an ash tray and only a double bed. I immediately called the front desk and explained, but was told that since I booked via Travelocity they do not gaurantee the room type. When I told them I had paid extra for this room type and could have chosen a lower rate for this same lower room type they were offering me, they refused to provide a discount. Outrages. When you are offered three different rates, select the most expensive/comfortable room type/rate and get provided the lowest available room type for the most expensive? Shoot I could have paid less for the same dam thing, does that make any sense? I refused this explanation and again explained I contacted the hotel directly and also called Hilton Honors and was assured by both my room type would not be a problem and was fully confirmed. However, the lady at the front desk continued to insist that room types are not gauranteed. I asked for her to explain how then Hilton had assured me. She told me to discuss this with Travelocity it's their problem, however, I again insisted that I spoke with Hilton to make sure this would not happen and that it was outrageous for her to think I was going to accept a lower rate room for a higher price. We hung up and shortly after she called to tell me she had my room available for me, a king delux and warned that next time I should be warned, to which I cut her off and said, no you need to honor your commitments, I did my part, I called 4 mths in advance to make sure the room would be held as promised and that Hilton who I called directly needed to honor it's bookings and not play games. Outrageous!!! I am tired of hotel chains taking your money, confirming what you want and then when you arrive with little options now that they've got you, playing games and trying to stick you with lower valued crap for the same price. I might expect this from a motel, but not the Hilton!!! Give me a break!!! The room was available all along. I should not have had such a horrible upfront experience trying to get what I had already paid for and confirmed.

After this the experience was extremely smooth. The lady at the front desk seemed emabarassed and overly eager to be friendly and treated me like gold. The staff in general is overly nice, but the hotel has little to no amenities, just a place to stay. I hope other industries don't catch up to this bait and switch mentality or I could go and buy a cadillac, sign papers and when I show up to pick up my car get handed a toyota corrola, because oh sorry we don't gaurantee car types, John Stossel where are you........give me a break!!!

“Great location but....”

Hilton Newark Penn Station

I stayed here for business back in April and thankfully my company paid for it because I am not sure that I would have otherwise stayed here. The location is key. It's right across from Penn Station which takes you RIGHT into Time Square (with a little bit of walking of course) and it located not too far from where we were having our conference.

The hotel is mediocre. I've stayed in much better places with friendlier people (the bellmen were kind of rude), but above all, room service was ok (a little pricey), the bed was comfy and would only stay here for the location.

By the way, the neighborhood is NOT GOOD AT ALL! Don't go anywhere at night alone or try to because it is not safe by any means.

“good location, helpful staff”

Very convenient for visiting Manhatten without having to pay the ridiculous prices for sub-standard accommodation which you often find there. Booked online, was $139 dollars for a very comfortable double room. Then, there are several trains an hour (either to the Financial District or midtown) running until very late at night which take max 20 minutes. The staff did their best to answer all our questions and help with problems. Nice breakfasts.

“Nice Hotel, no real complaints”

Hilton Newark Penn Station

Initial start wasn't so great having to wait 1:30 for the bus from newark aiport, but our stay co-incided with a v.large group of people staying one night to then go on a caribbean cruise, and 3 flights arrived at the same time, and hotel's buses couldn't cope. But the driver was really friendly.

Got to the hotel checked-in fairly easily. the room was reasonably sized, had a comfy bed, good size tv, and a small but well appointed bathroom.

The reception staff could have been a little more welcoming though.

Our main reason for the trip was to visit New York city but avoid the prices of the city hotels which were staggering, we used the PATH train to get in/out of the city which took 30-45 mins (a bit longer than expected) but only cost $1.50 each way, and the NY Metro cards were accepted.

If you don't mind a bit of a journey into NYC then i'd say this is a nice place to stay, but as other reviews have said the location is a tad noisy, but not bad enough to cause any problems sleeping.
