“An amazing hotel, perfect for visiting Manhattan”

Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson

Jun 23, 2008

This was such a great hotel, which we booked based on recommendations from Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed. We stayed here for 7 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. Just being able to use the hotel's own pier to watch the sunset was was worth the extra expensive to stay here.

The location is great, with absolutely incredible views of the city. We had a standard room which had two double beds and a lovely big bathroom with plenty of towels and hairdryer. We also had views over the water towards the Empire State building. Lying down in the bed we could see the skyline. This is such a comfortable room, although the windows don't open fully, there is good air conditioning, an empty fridge to store anything you need and a safe deposit box. The linen is of very good quality, although the bed is a bit soft.

The staff were also very helpful and nice. You are able to check in and check out using an automated terminal which is handy. There is also a computer where you can check in for your flights and even print your boarding card free of charge.

One night there was an incredible storm over the city and we were forced to stay in the hotel because of the torrential rain, but we ate at the bar, which had amazing views and had Angus burgers and a cone of fries with local Brooklyn Beer which was excellent and not too expensive, apporoximately $30 (£15) for both of us.

Getting to the hotel is also easy and we would recommend getting a weekly Metrocard for the Subway and a 7-day pass for the PATH which is $18. From Chambers Street you connect to the PATH station which is about 100 metres away. The PATH station at Exchange Square is literally right next to the hotel. As soon as you come up the escalator it is to your right. This was perfect for late nights in the city and coming back for afternoon naps. You can also take the water taxi over to the World Trade Centre which costs $5 and only takes about 5 minutes.

The best way to get to the hotel from the Airport is to take the AirTran from JFK to Jamaica station - you will then need to pay a $5 exit fee (by purchasing a Metro card) - then pay the single subway fare ($2) to get to Chambers Street/WTC on the "E" line. There are signs from the subway pointing you to the PATH station which is up the stairs and along a pathway which runs alongside the building site for the new WTC building. You then need to purchase a PATH ticket for $1.75 and take ANY train on ANY station to Exchange Square.

We booked this hotel through Skoosh, for a fraction of the cost of all the other internet booking sites and we rang the hotel to confirm the booking and everything was fine. All round this was the perfect hotel to stay in, away from the noise and confusion of the city, it was like a retreat and not too far away.

The hotel also has a 'party on the pier' every Wednesday from 5.30 - 9pm, with mojitos and other cocktails.

“Location on Hudson River is convenient”

Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson

4 of 5 stars
Half Moon Bay, CA
Jun 15, 2008

This is a nice hotel and despite being on the Jersey side, it is fairly convenient for Manhattan as well.

Rooms are well furnished and nice, giving the guest a comfortable place to sleep. The location was very quiet at night, and seemed like a quiet area during the day too. Broadband is available, wired and wireless, both for an extra charge. The desk in my room was very large and nice for business use. I was initially provided a smoking room, went back and requested and received a non-smoking room.

The breakfast buffet was solid, with good service. There is a nice bar area in the lobby for drinks and several TV with sport events on, which was helpful since the NBA finals were going.

A key tip is to find out about the PATH train, because it has a stop right across from this hotel, and can take you to mid-town or lower Manhattan fairly easily. The hotel will arrange a private car for you, but the pricing is very expensive, and they are reluctant to call for taxis. They must be making a sizable fee on the private car services, since it was $78 to get to Central Park area. PATH train costs $1.75 and is probably faster.

The views of Manhattan from the hotel are really nice, and the area seems very safe. While it's probably better to be right on Manhattan for a hotel location, this place is close enough and might be a bargain for what you get.

“Good hotel - if the trains are working...”

Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson

4 of 5 stars
London, UK
Jun 12, 2008

The hotel itself it very pleasant, large rooms, a great view overlooking the whole of Manhattan, an OK gym and good service. The downsides - pool very small and hardly worthwhile, charge for internet use (it's supposed to be more of a business hotel) and the location if the PATH trains aren't running properly (as was twice the occasion in my 4 day stay).

The nearby ferry goes to Battery Park or South Street Seaport bust costs $6 each way. Exchange Place PATH station is next to the hotel and only 4 minutes from the World Trade Centre.

The area around the hotel felt safe if a little sterile. Would use again.

“Loved the Hotel!”

Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson

4 of 5 stars
Calgary, AB
May 25, 2008

We had a 4 night stay at this hotel, and were not disappointed in the least here! Things started off quite well when we arrived at 11:00 am, expecting to just be able to park our bags. Since this was a Priceline booking, we expected nothing more than being told that our room was not ready. Instead, the desk clerk told us the room we wanted was available immediately, and we headed straight up to our 5th floor room. There was a decent view of the lower tip of Manhattan from our room, but no matter, as we went outside to see a wonderful view of the New York City skyline.

As I mentioned, the location of the hotel was fabulous. The proximity to New York was perfect, as the hotel is located literally right next door to the Exchange Place PATH station, which is only one stop away from the World Trade Center PATH terminal in Manhattan. It's also ideal if you fly into EWR, and you can take the Skytrain to the EWR train station, a NJ Transit train to Newark Penn Station, and PATH to the hotel. For under $10 a person, you can get to the hotel very cheaply. You're also just a few more steps away from the Bergen County Light Rail Transit that takes you to some of the other places in Jersey City and Hoboken.

The room itself was quite spacious, and likely twice the size of a comparable Manhattan room. Our king-bed suite had a huge desk and sitting area, and we did not at all feel crowded. The room was kept clean, the bathroom was nicely sized and clean, and the housekeeping staff earned the tips we left them.

The only problem we encountered was that we had a room that was adjoined to another one, and we could clearly hear our neighbour loudly complain to the front desk about all the supposed inadequacies in her suite. Luckily for us, the hotel staff moved her out that suite, and encountered no other issues noisewise.

This hotel comes up on Priceline on a consistent basis, and if you were looking for 3 star accomodation, you would not go wrong with either of the Jersey City choices (the Doubletree being the other hotel that would match). If you book via Hotwire, this is the only 4 star hotel listed, and the next time I book for Manhattan, I would not hesitate to book via Hotwire to guarantee myself this hotel again.
