This was such a great hotel, which we booked based on recommendations from Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed. We stayed here for 7 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. Just being able to use the hotel's own pier to watch the sunset was was worth the extra expensive to stay here.
The location is great, with absolutely incredible views of the city. We had a standard room which had two double beds and a lovely big bathroom with plenty of towels and hairdryer. We also had views over the water towards the Empire State building. Lying down in the bed we could see the skyline. This is such a comfortable room, although the windows don't open fully, there is good air conditioning, an empty fridge to store anything you need and a safe deposit box. The linen is of very good quality, although the bed is a bit soft.
The staff were also very helpful and nice. You are able to check in and check out using an automated terminal which is handy. There is also a computer where you can check in for your flights and even print your boarding card free of charge.
One night there was an incredible storm over the city and we were forced to stay in the hotel because of the torrential rain, but we ate at the bar, which had amazing views and had Angus burgers and a cone of fries with local Brooklyn Beer which was excellent and not too expensive, apporoximately $30 (£15) for both of us.
Getting to the hotel is also easy and we would recommend getting a weekly Metrocard for the Subway and a 7-day pass for the PATH which is $18. From Chambers Street you connect to the PATH station which is about 100 metres away. The PATH station at Exchange Square is literally right next to the hotel. As soon as you come up the escalator it is to your right. This was perfect for late nights in the city and coming back for afternoon naps. You can also take the water taxi over to the World Trade Centre which costs $5 and only takes about 5 minutes.
The best way to get to the hotel from the Airport is to take the AirTran from JFK to Jamaica station - you will then need to pay a $5 exit fee (by purchasing a Metro card) - then pay the single subway fare ($2) to get to Chambers Street/WTC on the "E" line. There are signs from the subway pointing you to the PATH station which is up the stairs and along a pathway which runs alongside the building site for the new WTC building. You then need to purchase a PATH ticket for $1.75 and take ANY train on ANY station to Exchange Square.
We booked this hotel through Skoosh, for a fraction of the cost of all the other internet booking sites and we rang the hotel to confirm the booking and everything was fine. All round this was the perfect hotel to stay in, away from the noise and confusion of the city, it was like a retreat and not too far away.
The hotel also has a 'party on the pier' every Wednesday from 5.30 - 9pm, with mojitos and other cocktails.
