“Nice Hotel, would stay again”

Homewood Suites by Hilton Edgewater

Stayed in a two room hotel suite: bedroom and living room. The bedroom consisted of a sleeping area (large bed, large tv, two bedside tables) and a bathroom area (bathroom with toilet, wardrobe, and sink area). The living room consisted of a kitchen area (fridge, sink, dining table, large microwave, coffee maker etc.) and a living area ( sofas, desk, large tv) - so as you can see very nice spacious suite.

Very comfortable, very clean, very spacious suites. Felt like a home from home - no need to go out!

The staff were very friendly. There was complimentary breakfast served - nothing special but ok.

In terms of location, within walking distance of the ferry which takes you over to Manhatten, New York. Directly outside the hotel there are a number of shops - banana republic, gap etc. or if you take about a 10 - 15 minute walk there are a couple of shopping areas with Old Navy, Payless Shoes, McDonalds and some other shops.

It's a good hotel to make the most of the hustle and bustle of New York but from a distance - so if you prefer to stay away from the madness of NY, NY, I owould recommend this hotel and simply make use of the ferry which takes you directly into NY, NY.

The hotel was very accomodating - but the very best thing was the customer service we received from Edy!

She went above and beyond her call of duty to help us. We give her five stars for excellent service!

The hotel is at a very convenient location to NYC. Some nice restaurants on the water with a skyline view of NYC. The ferry over to NYC is convenient.

This was our first time staying in New Jersey - we'd do it again.

“Great alternative to Manhattan”

Homewood Suites by Hilton Edgewater

I just returned from a one-night stay at the Homewood Suites in Edgewater NJ. We were traveling to NYC to do some Christmas-time sightseeing and wanted a relatively inexpensive hotel close to the city. There were no reasonable options in Manhattan, so I booked the Homewood Suites just across the river in NJ and was very happy with the decision.

Hotel is located directly on the Hudson river with a great view of the NYC skyline (from some rooms) - right in the middle of a new open-air shopping mall. Suite was large, clean and quiet. Kitchen had two burners, sink and full-size refrigerator. Bathroom was clean but basic (shower, no bathtub). Sink was separate from the shower/toilet. King size bed was comfortable. We did not have a view - but if you are above the 4th floor or so you should have a view of either the skyline or GW Bridge.

Free shuttle to the ferry terminal was very convenient - took no more than 30 minutes from the time we left the hotel until we were in Manhattan. The ferry costs $7 per adult, each way, and the price includes a bus that will take you to Times Sq, Downtown or Lincoln Center.

Staff was friendly and helpful. The complimentary hot breakfast was very convenient. Overall a great option if you don't NEED to be in Manhattan. Great service, great location and a much better value than staying in the city.

“We liked it too...”

I don't have much to add, except that we tested 3 ways to commute downtown from Edgewater:
1. The path: parking is expensive, and the train is old. It was confusing. Not recommended.
2. The ferry: wonderful but $12/adult + parking. (The hotel shuttle does not operate at night, which is why we took our car.)
3. The 158 bus (1 block down, across the street): probably the best way except during rush hour. About $6 roundtrip, and leaves you on 42nd street. Takes about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Schedule is not reliable, however.
About the hotel, we liked everything, but got a bit shocked by the lack of environmental concern. An example is that each suite has a dishwasher, and the cleaning lady ran ours for 3 cups.
The skyline view: if you are lucky to be on the 4th floor or above, you will have a partial side view of a small part of Manhattan (unless you have the most expensive suites). However, there are a few restaurants in the shopping complex with nice outdoor sitting with a view of Manhattan.
Overall, we liked it very much.

“Unbelievable Quality, Value, and Location”

Fantastic hotel right across the river to Manhattan. Staff was unbelievable and couldn't believe how nice this hotel and area was for the money we were spending. Arrived early, they put us up in our studio suite (their low end room, but still with King bed, living area, and full kitchen) and told us about the FREE Dinner and breakfast (think dinner is a mon-thursday only). We unpacked and were ready to explore NYC. They have a complimentary van take us to the ferry (i tipped him a 5) and that cost our family of four 20 dollars each way in and out of the city. Free bus awaited us at the dock and we chose the downtown bus to go see the Ground Zero, Brooklyn Bridge, and Statue of Liberty. The second day we were gonna take the NJ bus into the city (pick-up is a block away) but we decided to drive ourselves instead (traffic wasn't no worse than Chicago our any other major city at 10am and it gave us a chance to drive through parts we wouldn' ordinarily see -Harlem, etc) We parked for free on a side street right along Central Park and we got 4 all day metro passes to ride the subway throughout the city. Great experience and we look forward to our next trip into the city. We thought about Edgewater, Fort Lee, Secaucus, and the Newark airport area for our hotel and mass transit into the city - we definitely made the right decision. Newark Airport area is nasty looking and the Secaucus/Meadowlands area is o.k. but not near the level of this hotel and it's immediate surroundings, not to mention it would have taken much longer to get to the city. If you're staying on the outskirts of NYC for better hotel bargains - you must pick this or the Fort Lee area!! Can't beat this hotel and its staff! Hilton name and Hilton Quality all around - Actually felt guilty with the Government rate i received and what i got for the money!
