“just okay...”

Holiday Inn Reno-Downtown

booked through hotwire on short notice for $29 a night, only stayed one night as we were returning home from vacation and needed a place to stay to spead out the drive. Hotel is definitely on the older side of the ledger and the neighborhood is seedy at best. The room was not very good, visible dirt marks on the walls, broken showerhead, louder than loud air conditioner which was off initially and took forever to cool down the room...the pool was large and very nice, probably the best thing about this property in all honesty and no one was even utilizing it so I had it all to myself. Small workout room with minimal machines if that is your thing while on the road. The restaurant was adequate which was okay as we were tired of driving and didn't feel like getting out again. The casino is pretty much a joke, two tables, one bar that was operational and plenty of shady characters lurking about. The parking lot was also kind of scary but there were security officers walking the perimeter fairly often so that was pleasing to see. Definitely not up to typical holiday inn standards, or holiday inn express for that matter. All in all I probably wouldn't stay here again unless it was another "guess" with Hotwire, I can't complain too much as the price was only $29 and you do get what you pay for sometimes....tread softly.

I just had to write a comment on our stay at the Holiday Inn Reno. It was so nice to be away from all of the crime of the downtown strip, but close to the fun of Reno. We felt safe in our hotel and we were treated like honored guests. It was a really refreshing experience for us all. Thank You!!

“Okay for the price but the area is scary”

My overall exp was okay with this hotel. However here is what I observed:
1) room : Was clean but there was smell!!
2) Area : Not good. One person knocked on my car window and asked for money. Since we were group of 3-4, so I was not afraid.
3) Food: Was good
4) Casino: Not good, but you can be there for sometime.

I won't recommend for family.

“not bad”

We stayed at this hotel in late April for two nights. To start with I was nervous about this place because of the bad reviews. I did only pay about 45usd per night on Hotwire for what they list as a three star. It is not that bad! Starting off when we called for the free shuttle from the airport he was there in about 10 minutes. The driver was very nice and this is true for all of the staff. Upon checkin we were greeted with two very fast and friendly people. This hotel is about 40 years old but is still in good shape if a bit dated. The room is in need of an update but clean . Bathroom is old but clean. The lobby is nice if a bit standard Holiday Inn. The attached casino is also old and gritty with a local crowd that could be scary looking but not dangerous. This hotels parking lot had received negative reviews in the past. What are these people talking about, I dont know because I saw nothing wrong with it. Even the neighborhood isnt that bad, the first night we walked to the strip it was ok but after dark call a taxi. I spent all of my three days in Reno in this hotel because I got very ill. The staff was great in getting medical help to me when I needed it and checked up on me throughout my stay. For this alone I would stay here again . Good place if you get a good deal.

“Good room, no problems at all”

Holiday Inn Reno-Downtown

We booked a low-cost 3 * downtown Reno hotel through Hotwire (about $42 including taxes for one night!) and discovered we had been booked at the Holiday Inn. After reading all the other reviews at TripAdvisor I suspected this had been a big mistake and almost abandoned this reservation and made another elsewhere. But I decided to live with the Holiday Inn for one night, and it wasn't a mistake at all.

We arrived on a Tuesday evening for a on-night stay. The check in process went smoothly. Our 7th floor room with queen bed was a slight cut above the average 3* hotel room with a nice view of the mountains to the east. It seemed very clean and well-maintained with no odd smells, except for a very, very faint smell of stale tobacco that probably seeped up from the lobby. Smells bother me, and this was too slight to be a bother, just a comment. The window opened about an inch, and we enjoyed the fresh air. We had shampoo, etc. in the bathroom and free wi-fi in the room that connected with no hassle.

We did not use the hotel casino, restaurant, or bar, or other facilities. The lobby was a bit dark, which seems typical in desert areas, and had a stale smoke smell, but it was large and clean. We had no problem with the free parking lot and saw nobody at all loitering about.

The hotel is several blocks away from the main drag, and the neighborhood on the other side of the street to the north of the hotel seemed rundown. We would probably not have been comfortable walking from the hotel to the main strip on Virginia Avenue, especially after dark. However, we never felt uncomfortable at the hotel or in the hotel parking lot.

Bottom line: We were very concerned after reading other reviews, but in our experience any concerns were unfounded. This was a typical hotel with a clean well-maintained room, no hidden fees, and no problems.
