Atlantis for me was like a redneck version of the Mandalay Bay in Vegas. Trying really hard to have that tropical theme. Had a problem with booking through orbitz took a hour to check in. Got a nice upgraded room. Too bad I was by myself it was a great party room with a granite bar. Dealers were ok. Room was clean. The only thing was I got sick off the fish and chips from room service. Maybe I should have know better. One other note the new sports book, bar and restaurant. Now this area looked just like vegas very nice.

“So-So Time”

Atlantis Casino Resort

Roseville, Ca
Jul 8, 2008

This was my first stay at Artlanis and I was not impressed. We stayed in the Atrium Tower on the 10th floor. The room was very average, but sufficent. I would much rather have stayed in one of the Peppermills new rooms. There was no mini fridge or coffee maker, but there was a mini safe free of charge and a iron and board. The check in was a nightmare. We arrived earlier than the check in time, so the staff took our cell number and said he would call as soon as the room was ready. About an hour later we recieved a call to let us know it was ready, I was impressed they had actually called. However when we went to get our key card, we were told the key machine was broken and they would not be able to let us in our room. They will call us agian when it was fixed so we could get into our room. I find it very hard to belive they couldn't have a maid or maintance person let us in... We have driven for Sacramento and wnted to relax for a little while. So another hour and a half passed, and we had lost alot of money already in thier casino. We had not recieved another call, so I went up to the check in desk to ask them what the progress was and they told me they hwere now doing the keys manually. (Why couldn't they have done that in the 1st plaace?)

Then we had to wait in line for an hour to get our keys!!! WHAT A MESS! Not to mention the whole place is over due for an upgrade, not just the pool and additon they are working on. Which was supposted to be completed in June accourding to the 50 million signs they have posted through out the casino.

“This place is a nightmare!!”

This has got to be the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel, and this includes my trips out of the country to rural towns in Costa Rica. When we first checked in the guy at the check in desk seemed pleasant and even "upgraded" our room. We were thankful and went to our room. After driving straight from work I just wanted to lay down and rest for a bit. Once inside the room, we were puzzled at the "upgrade" remark becuase this seemed like a regular room just on the 18th floor. The bed was uncomfortable and you could hear the party that the folks next door were having. Nonetheless, we get in bed anyway to take a little nap before going to the casino. After laying there for a while I noticed something crawling in the bed next to me. I put on my glasses and discovered a bug that looked like a cross between a roach and a beetle just happily making it's way across the bed (mind you this is under the blankets). We called down to inform them and the woman said she only had two queen beds left and that was all she could offer us. We went downstairs and the same nice gentleman at the desk was there and attempted to help us, but Marie (who apparently thinks people carry bugs with them soley for the purpose of putting them in bed with them) took over and was very short with us. Ultimately she got what looked like a scolding from her boss becuase instead of being combative she was not looking into the situation and followign protocol. I had to fill out a form for security and they gave us another room. When Marie gave us teh keys to our "suite" I took it and left the form with all of my information on it lying on the table where she was standing assuming she would pick it up as I walked away thinking the situation was done with. Well by the time we came back downstairs which could have easily been 30-45 minutes later, I was mortified to see that the form I filled out which included my social, name, and birthdate was still sitting out on the table unattended. I picked it up and walked it to the other end of the counter to where Marie was helping another person. She looked as if she had no clue why the form was still sitting there, when she obviously was the last one sitting with it. I wish I could say this was the end of our nightmare at the Atlantis, but to end things on the best possible note, we were over charged and I ended up spending the last night there taking care of my boyfriend who got sick form the seafood buffet.

“Definitely getting better”

Atlantis Casino Resort

4 of 5 stars

It's interesting how the reviews on the Atlantis are all over the place, and I can see why. The first time we stayed there, several years ago, it was a 5. Last year, I'd have given it a 2. But with all the remodeling work, I'm back up to a 4.

Check-in was quick, no problems. Customer service at the front desk on check-in and check-out was polite and businesslike - not extremelly friendly, but not at all rude either.

We stayed in the conceirge tower, which is a little more expensive but has a couple of amenities like free continental breakfast and free access to the Internet (personally I think the entire hotel should have free access instead of the $9.99 per day they now charge, but I guess they want you in the casino instead).

The public areas of the tower have all been redecorated, and so have the rooms. New furniture, new carpet, a big flat-screen TV in the main room, and a smaller one in the bathroom. Comfey beds, and a great view.

Because of the remodel, the room was missing its towel bar and TP holder (we were told all the remodeled rooms are), but that was no big deal. We also had a problem with the A/C in the room - very noisy - but I called the front desk and they were very nice, and had someone up there within 30 minutes to fix it.

Be forewarned that as of this writing (June, 2008) many parts of the casino and the hotel are being renovated, so some areas are closed off, and there is a little bit of noise and inconvenience here and there. We certainly did not find it to be a major problem.

What was a bit of a problem, however, was the cigarette smoke. The Atlantis has one of the smokiest casinos I've been in, and a little bit of the smoke smell made it all the way up to our room on the 23rd floor. Only you can decide how much of an issue it is for you, but they really do need a better ventilation system.

The Purple Parrot coffee shop has pretty good burgers, and Toucan Charlies has a great buffet (join the hotel's free Club Paradise, use the card when you gamble, and you'll earn free meals - we got several, and didn't drop very much money at all in the casino).

They're definitely headed back in the right direction, and I would certainly stay there again - especially when it's all finished!

We booked a night at the Atlantis in Reno through Priceline.

When we got there and drove around for about 10 minutes looking for a parking space in a massive parking lot completely maxed out with cars, it turned out that what they booked us in was the motel across the parking lot that is part of the Atlantis hotel property, but is a dingy, run-down 1 star piece of crap that is nothing remotely close to a 4 star property. Two small beds crammed next to each other in a small dated room in a motel-style building right next to a chain-link fence with an industrial warehouse right on the other side (30 feet away).

Once we checked out the room and realized that I had paid for a 4 star hotel and was given a 1 star room, I called Priceline to get satisfaction and they said to talk to the hotel staff first. I went back to talk to the hotel, and they said they would have given us an upgrade to the main building, but unfortunately they were sold out in the main building. I called Priceline back, and after a literal hour of talking to several people and being put on hold multiple times, I was told that they were "sorry", but there was nothing they could do. I realize I could have just given in, but this was the last day of our trip to a class reunion with my wife and kids, and my wife was not happy to be stuck in a sleazy fleabag motel room after such a wonderful weekend. So, I returned the key and booked another hotel, via Hotwire - the Tuscany Tower at the Peppermill, which was AWESOME!!!! Now I just need to take this back to Visa so they can give me my money back, which I'm sure they will do. So the I guess the moral of the story is beware of this hotel, and beware of Priceline - their customer service is terrible if you ever have a problem. I'm done with Priceline.
