“Excalibur was fine...especially for a Vegas trip”

You are never in the room when you go to vegas, so I always try to get something inexpensive but with a good strip location. We have stayed at Ex- two years in a row because of the value and location. Of course the rooms are nothing spectacular like the Bellagio, however, we slept well and felt the rooms were clean and adequate. Never even watched tv, so who cares what they had in there. My only problem with Excalibur is they changed their points system for comps. The first year we were there we got free buffets (at least four). We even rolled over some points which ended up being no good when we returned less than one year later. I was disappointed in that, but really that has nothing to do with the room or the amenities. We swam in the pool and found it very pleasant. I definitely recommend Excalibur if you are not a picky traveler who expects luxury. It will do for three or four nights in vegas.

We arrived at The Excalibur after almost 3 weeks of staying in various places in California and were looking forwad to our holiday ending on a high. We were sadly mistaken.

The importance of first impressions - We arrived in the lobby of the hotel, approaching the casino, tired and with 4 suitcases to lug arround. A man approaching us to ask if we wanted to check in seemed to be helping when he pointed us to a particular desk. Wrong! Their sole objective was to do the hard sell for shos tickets. When advised that we just wanted to check in there was clearly a failure to compute. The words 'no' and 'thanks' were clearly of a foreign language to the lady at the desk. In the end we just walked.

Things did not get much better at Check-in. Having briefly queued we then hit our the desk at this quasi-sausage factory, where there was obviously little interest in us as people, little interest in letting us know important information about the hotel and surrounds. The next person was clearly her main concern.

And then the rooms! Dull and uninviting would seem to sum them up. No coffee making facilities, no fridge, televisions tha had clearly seen better days and didn't even have something as basic as a fully functioning on/off button. A run down hotel we stayed at near Big Sur had better room facilities!

We decided to cut our losses and booked into the much more comfortable, family friendly Homesuites accommodation nearby!

“Disappointing, even at a bargain price”

We had two rooms for two nights in July (14 &15). About 5 years ago we had stayed in this hotel with our kids, now the kids are teens and we desided to stay at this hotel again. We got a fabulous rate and thought it would be a great bargain. Sadly, we were all disappointed. Check in was easy, but came with a bit of a sales pitch. We had booked view rooms but were offered free upgrades to newly renovated rooms that had one catch: they were smoking rooms. We passed and kept our original rooms. The view of the strip was nice but that was the best part of the rooms. The rooms are really run down. Both TVs in both rooms did not work very well. The furniture was scratched and stained. The carpets were stained and the bedding was old. The mattresses were lumpy and had no support, and the pillows were awful. The bathrooms are roomy but in bad need of a heavy cleaning and repairs. One had a broken toilet seat and cracked counter top. The other bathroom had broken tile on the floor and stains on the counter top. Both bathrooms were not very clean: hair in the shower, mild film on the shower door. Overall they were just bad. We agreed to just get through our two nights and never stay again. We chalked it up to a learning experience. One other change we noticed since our stay years ago is the presence of sales people in the main walkways of the casino/lobby area. They stop anyone that will respond and try to sell them show tickets, vacation deals, etc...It is very tacky. As for the dining options they are average Las Vegas. Just don't try to go to the food court during average meal times. You can't get near a counter to order as they are jammed packed with people. Breakfast time is especially bad. During all times there is a lack of seating and trash all over the place.
Overall we will not be staying at this hotel again. Yes it is on the strip, but there are plenty of other options. Until something major happens to gut out and redo this place, just visit it as walk thru, don't stay.

“Great cheaper hotel on the strip”

We spent a week here and had a great time. The Excalibur is about the best deal you can get on the strip.

We paid the extra for an upgraded room it seemed to be worth it. The bedroom was spacious with a huge bed and flatscreen TV, we got a great view of the pools. The room was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was huge with a giant shower and great toiletries. We heard no noise from the corridor at all. You have to pay extra for wireless access but that seems standard in Vegas. We also noticed that there are a lot less cable channels than in other places in America, again may be standard for Vegas.

We ate at a couple of the restaurants, an Italian and Sherwood cafe and both were great. The pools are fantastic, lots of beds, 4 pools to choose from and a couple of slides for the kids. Waitresses come round from the bar regularly. As we were there in April it wasn't as busy as it must be later in the year so I guess sunbed availability may be less then.

We didn't gamble but we took a coupld of the free lessons in the casino and they were excellent. Staff were all very helpful and our check-in/check-out experience was quick and easy though it does get very busy on Friday nights. We checked out using their kiosk, very useful. There are lots of lifts and they split the floors between them so you don't have to wait long and no need to spend all day in the lift either.

It's located at the end nearest the airport, with MGM, Luxor, New York New York, Tropicana all nearby. Transport in Vegas is pretty good (buses less so) but all the same a hotel nearer the centre of the strip would be more convenient.

Overall we had a great stay, no complaints. It'd be great for families, lots of kids games downstairs, family restaurants, good pools and of course the medeival theme. It's Vegas on a budget which was perfect for us, if you are prepared to pay more for more luxury then choose another hotel. It was great, just depends what you want from your vegas experience.

Good location between New York New York and Luxor.
Hotel itself in need of updating. Rooms dull and outdated furnishings. Poor overall service. Rude housekeeping staff. Charges $1 per day for use of the phone even if you never make a local call. Not worth the money and suggest you try other hotels on the strip. Stratosphere/MGM or Mirage much better value for money.
