“Golden Nugget Great Stay”

We stayed at the GN July 6-8 and had a wonderful trip. This was our second stay at this hotel this year and will definitely be back. The North Tower rooms are more convenient than the South Tower rooms which is what we stayed in. The standard rooms are clean and very comfortable with pillowtop mattresses and everything you need. No coffee...but no hotel in Las Vegas has in-room coffee makers.

We ate at the Grotto twice which I would highly recommend. The lasagna was the best I've ever had and the deserts were even better. We had a horrible meal at the Carson Street Cafe on our first night. That place is great for breakfast and hamburgers but don't try anything else.

Wish they had $5 craps tables like the rest of the downtown area but the limits seemed to stay at $10 except when we left on Sunday and then the limits came down. Go across the street to Four Queens for lower limit table games.

The staff was great, got a late checkout at no add'l. charge and overall this is a great downtown hotel.

Others have commented on the pool area - very nice! No complaints so we'll definitely return.

“suprisingly stay at the Golden Nugget”

My wife and I split up our stay in Las Vegas. We stayed at The Golden Nugget July 1-3, then the Monte Carlo July 3-6. We have been visiting Las Vegas for the past 4 years and wnated to experience staying on Freemont St....and it was well worth it!!!! Fisrt of the deal we got was fantastic, 2 nights for $69 a night. (ask for coupons, they won't just give them to you) The room was very nice, and clean. The best part of the Golden Nugget was the pool...absolutely AMAZING!!!! The have lounge chairs, couches, even queen size beds to loung in! and a hot tub with a 52 person capacity. The pool has s shark tank right in the middle, you can swim right up to it, and watch about 10 sharks and other sealife swim right by you (for a realistic experience get a pair of goggles, go underwater, and watch the sharks...very cool). A waterslide also goes right through the center of the shark tank, which was alot of fun ( I did it about 8 times, and hardly a line to wait in). The other great thing about the pool was that it is open until 9pm, most pools in vegas close like at 6 or 7pm. The pool is also absolutely beautiful lit up at night, and can view the sharks very well.
The Buffet has also recently changed, it used to be just off the casino floor, now take the escalator upstairs, and there is the brand new buffet, which is bigger, and better. Food was geat. We got there for the sunday brunch, and 15 minutes later was the change over for the seafood dinner, so we stayed and ate seafood for the brunch price...it was great!!!!
I Highly reccommed the Golden Nugget to anyone. It was great being away from the strip for a change, and not having to do all that walking. Everything is close by.

“Awful Service!”

This hotel is such a travesty. The physical property is first rate, the best clearly of the downtown hotels. However, it is easy to take out a check book and build facilities; it is another to manage a property and this is where the current group of owners (it tends to change every other year at the Golden Nugget) completely fails. The current group of incompetents need to go back to the food service business where they made the money to purchase the hotel. Check-in is a nightmare, although they will save you a lot of money since you are never going to make it to the gaming tables/slots, since all your free time will be standing in lines. Two people to serve you at check-in even at the busiest of times. Computers are updated in the morning so don't expect to be able to check-out. They will "mail your statement" which they have not. Call for service, etc., go unanswered. They clearly spent their budget of updating the hotel and none on people, training, customer service, etc. The only hope is the current owners lose enough money and someone who knows how to run a major hotel/casino purchases it.

Thought I was in the middle of a construction zone first thing in the morning. Couldn't believe they would "upgrade" us to the north tower, right underneath a floor undergoing massive renovations!

Front desk service people were unprofessional and unapologetic. After I wrote several emails to customer service after returning from Vegas, I received absolutely no response, not even a stock 'thank you for your email."

We would never ever stay in this hotel again. Positively the worst hotel experience we've ever had.
