We’ve been going to Las Vegas every other April for almost 20 years. Each time we go we stay somewhere different; the Strip, Boulder Hwy, Blue Diamond, North Vegas, Henderson, and so on. This time it was Fremont Street Downtown. After considering room rates balanced with Trip Advisor reviews, and location, we decided on the Four Queens for a 3 night (Tues - Thur) stay. We booked 2 rooms via internet thru the 4Qs website; 1 non-smoking king and 1 smoking double (for our 2 adult daughters). We arrived Tues about 5:30pm. Check-in was quick and the rooms were ready.
First let me say that if you are comfortable with DI‘s, M6‘s, or S8’s , you should be comfortable with the 4Q’s. Nothing special, jut a clean, comfortable, recently refurbished room, South Tower - 7th floor. Typically sized (as per above), non-smoking king (not a hint of smoke smell), was located on the northeast corner of the bldg, overlooking the Fremont St Experience and the live music stage. And yes, the live music was LOUD, but they quit at 10pm. The FSE went until midnight but we barely heard it. Yes we’re older folks, but we don’t go to Vegas to go to bed at 9:00pm either… The bed was quite comfortable, the 32” TV nice, and housekeeping worked around our late mornings just fine.
The girlies had a smoking twin on 3rd floor South Tower overlooking the HVAC. They had no problems and were quite pleased with it considering Daddy paid for it…
As for food, we passed on Hugo’s, but the Magnolias Restaurant (for breakfast) was on a par with a good truck stop, meaning the prices were affordable, the service acceptable, and the food tasty, hot, and plentiful. The Chicago Brewing Co. had fairly good beer, so if you’re a serious beer drinker, by all means give it a try. For dinner we did Paradise Buffet (Fremont), 3/10 (poor), The Buffet (Golden Nugget) 7/10 (quite good), and The Pullman Grill (Main Street Station) 9/10 (excellent). The Triple 7 brew pub at Main Street Station also had several very good beers!
The 4Q’s casino was midsized and not very busy! The air was breathable but cool! Unless you were right next to Smoking Man, the smoke level was acceptable. As for gaming, the wife did her usual feeding the penny and nickel slots while I looked for camaraderie and revelry at the crap table. What I found was the crap tables virtually empty at 10pm. I ended up going across the way to the Fremont for several hours. Still though, I’ve never seen Vegas casinos so quiet and sparsely populated. Several of the street vendors I talked to also said business was off. I guess the economy has a lot of folks worried.
Lastly, kudos to housekeeping and maintenance. We received extra pillows and towels within minutes of our request. Secondly when we returned from dinner about 9pm Tues the room was about 90 degrees. After a call to the front desk we went back out. When we returned about midnight, there was a “we’ve been here” note on the door from maintenance and the room temp was about 65. Good show guys!
We stay somewhere different each time we go to Vegas, so its not fair to say whether or not we would stay here again. The 4Q’s is what it is - an inexpensive alternative to the high priced (over-priced?) accommodations on the Strip. We enjoyed Downtown. Its definitely a different Vegas!
