Went out to Las vegas for the second weekend of the NCAA's. The Palazzo offered me a free room for my birthday, part of the players club at the Venetian resorts.

I arrived and checked in at the Invited Guest desk. I asked for a room as close to the elevator as possible, which they did for me. Check in was a breeze and I was off to the room. You have to walk through Casino, but it is not that bad a walk. Some hotels in Vegas feel like miles before you get to your room.

The room was very nice. Two issues: No robes in the room and the alarm clock was broken. I am not a stickler about the robes, just did not want to get charged if they thought I had removed. Called the issues down and was fixed within an hour.

Ordered room service when I got there as well. Food was really good, and took less than a half hour to arrive.

All in all, this was a very nice hotel. The fact that it was free made it even better, but I would stay there again. Well designed.

Pool was not open. Not a big deal for me, but supposed to be open soon.

“Electrician 10: Housekeeping 0”

Palazzo Hotel & Casino

We stayed for four nights at the end of March/beginning April 08, hoping for a really pleasant experience. It really was anything but pleasant. Housekeeping was very lax with many missing items (i.e., towels, do not disturb sign, robes and slippers, etc.) upon our arrival. Housekeeping did bring those items after about 8 hours.

There obviously was no attention to detail as there were things such as masking tape still in place from prior painting, tape residue on things, a mysterious black sticky substance at the entrance to the bathroom (which the housekeeper and housekeeping supervisor had no idea nor inclination as to how to remove), continued missing towels (somedays had 10 washcloths, no hand towels or no washcloths, 6 bath towels).

We had a lightbulb burn out in the separate toilet area. It took over 12 hours to replace a lightbulb thanks to the electrician who arrived at our room at 11:30 PM. He questioned why no one else could have just changed the lightbulb before calling him. We were glad he came, however, as he figured out what the mysterious black substance was that eluded the housekeeping staff. He looked at it, took a razor blade out of his tool kit and scraped the substance off. He said that it was silicone caulk and that being waterproof, it was never going to wash off (which is all that housekeeping did). He was very pleasant, but what he did was definitely not his to do.

We received many "I'm sorry" responses from the front desk, but no action. The front desk manager gave us her business card to be able to contact her directly. Nice touch, but we were not able to do so because the hotel operator did not know who she was despite us telling the operator her name and that there is no such thing as voice mail for that person. The operator persisted in "sending us into her voice mail" only to be connected to the front desk who said that there was no voice mail and that the front desk manager was busy. No call back.

The good part of the stay was the excellent service by the desk security staff member when we inadvertently left behind a couple of items. He sent a security guard up to the room to retrieve said items. He was very friendly and indeed acted as the information desk for a number of people. If only they could clone him!

The casino was great with very attentive staff who are at the ready to help with directions, etc.

We highly recommend the Grand Lux Cafe. The food was very good with an extensive menu. The wait staff were outstanding! We ate there four different times and had excellent food and service each time.

I would not recommend staying at The Palazzo at this point in time. If both housekeeping and management staff are willing to commit to meeting their customers' needs, it could be a great place. For now, . . . stay at The Wynn. They DO understand those things.

“Great Rooms, Lots of Problems”

Palazzo Hotel & Casino

Apr 5, 2008
2/3 found this review helpful

On the nice side:
The rooms are nice, the casino area is open and not smoky so it's easy to get through, the restaurants are good and prices reasonable. The evening manager at the hotel was helpful.

We had a number of problems:
Cleanliness
Dirty fingerprints in the bathroom, on doors and light switches.
The couch had nasty looking stains on it.
The chairs and couch had food crumbs all over them.
The room has been in use, yet nobody ever cleaned up things like plaster spatters and dust.

Fixtures
The worst problem was constantly getting locked out of our room. They kept telling us to be careful with card keys. I was trying to get in to the room at close to midnight and needed security to let me in. Midnight is shift change and nobody showed up, and the people at the frontdesk changed so I had to go through everything all over again with them. After my 6th trip to the front desk in one day, they finally figured out that the door lock was broken. Other people had similar complaints, so the locks breaking isn't an isolated incident.
One of the sink faucets sprayed more water horizontally than down into the sink.
One of the closet doors was off its hinges and wouldn't close.
The couch already had tears and missing trim.

Service
Our room wasn't made up twice, probably because of the problems with the door lock, yet they didn't report it.
We asked for clean towels on evening #1 after the room wasn't cleaned. They didn't show up until I went to the front desk to complain.
It took some time to get the door lock fixed. When they said they would on the second day, they came at 1:30AM when we were going to bed.
The breakfast restaurant can get backed up, and has lots of new staff who forget to take orders, what order people come in, and generally stretch breakfast into a long drawn out meal.
Long front desk lines at certain times of day.

This could be a nice hotel, but the housekeeping and basic service is poor. It's not worth the $175 rate we paid to get a dirty room that gets t serviced half the time, and which locks you out several times per day. At least they've got a few good front managers, but they can't compensate for daily problems like these.

“Beware of theft!”

I had all of my jewelry stolen from my room (with both my husband and I in it) on Feb. 22. This hotel did not call the police; we had to. They will not take any responsibility for the theft or for the criminal behavior of the housekeeper. I am heartsick. Do not stay in this hotel!
