“stick to the basics here”

Burger Bar

Mar 22, 2007

Two recent visits provided completely different experiences here. This is a fun, noisy place, but you won't do badly if you stick to the basics......it's senseless to overspend on high-ticket items like Foie gras or Kobe beef burgers. Just grab an Angus beef burger and maybe some sweet potato fries, plus a few of your favorite add-ons like bacon, guacamole, or sateed mushrooms, and you'll have a nice if forgettable meal. Avoid the massive but tasteless and messy chicken breast burger (what's it been marinating in??? Water?), in which the addition of too many sauteed onions made the whole thing impossibly slimey and far too messy to eat with my hands. Also, don't bother ordering a salad, which you shouldn't be doing at a place called Burger Bar in any case.

Drinks are, however, spectacular, as are the handsome bartenders.......best margarita I had in Vegas, and one was definitely enough to keep me buzzed all night. This place is fine if you're staying nearby, but don't make a special trip to the South end of the Strip just for this place.

“Nothing Special”

Well here is therdeal...went to Burger bar with 2 friends. We decided
to try 3 differnt burgers and see if there is any difference. None were what I would declare "the best burger I've ever had". Not even close. The $16 American Kobe was the favorite of my 2 friends. My personal favorite was the cheapest burger $8 or so. All of us agreed that the cost of the American Kobe burger (at almost twice the price) was not worth it. Typical sides; fries were OK, onion rings were too. Our favorite were the zucchini fries. Shakes were OK, but again.......nothing special. I had expected better.

My husband and I went to the Burger Bar for supper. We sat at a booth which had a tv built in. That was a very nice feature. Good atmosphere. We both had the All American burger and skinny fries. The food was great. Our server was friendly and attentive. Total for 2 All Americans, 2 fries and one Blue Moon beer was around $38 including tip. Kind of expensive for burgers and fries but the atmosphere was nice. Not sure if I'd eat there again or if I'll just go to Char grill back home.

“Yummy burgers!”

Let me start by saying that I LOVE burgers! Needless to say, when we booked our room at Mandalay Bay and I read about this place I HAD to try it out! It's located in Mandalay Place in the walkway between Mandalay and Luxor. We ate there for lunch on a Friday in October. There was about a 15 minute wait and we were seated at one of the cute booths with a TV.

My friend ordered the "classic" burger and I built my own. You can pick the type of patty, toppings and bun. I picked a Ridgefield farm burger with cheddar and crispy bacon on an onion bun...DELICIOUS!! We couldn't decide on fries, so we split fat fries, sweet potato fries, and onion rings. I thought the fat fries and onion rings were really good, but didn't really care for the sweet potato fries. We were unable to finish all the fries/onion rings and neither of us finished our burgers...TOO FULL! She had a tea (they only have pepsi products) and I just had water. The total bill without tip was $36.

My wife and I dined at the burger bar on a Saturday night in October. I felt adventurous and tried the Surf and Turf burger which had black angus patty, Lobster and asparagus. It was ok, more of a novelty burger. I had to remove the Lobster pieces because it was too chewy and hard to eat. Besides, the lobster was not quite a half tail as promised on the menu and the flavor was overpowered by the rest of the burger.
The biggest problem was the lack of basic good service. After our drinks were delivered we did not see our waitress for the longest time. Our empty glasses sat on our table until after the burgers arrived 40 minutes later. Only then did we finally get a refill. The waitress spent most of her time flirting with a table of guys across the room.
If it wasn't for the lousy service we probably would have rated it about average. The food was ok but not worthy of the price tag. My Surf and Turf burger was $24 dollars. Not enough lobster to justify the price.
