Hotel rooms in Las Vegas during the annual electronics show [CES] can be expensive and/or hard to find. I had been to the Suncoast before and it seemed like a decent place, so I booked it.
It IS in fact located far from the Strip, but a bit closer to downtown. The only life near the place is the Marriott Regent hotel/casino and Angel Park golf course across the street. It is essentially an isolated island. If you don't have a car, you are ---.
The good news about the location is that it is in a quiet, desert setting. Additionally, the clientelle seems to be a notch above what would be expected at some of the cheaper hotels and casinos downtown.
Huge room and spotless! High speed internet for $9.95 a day, but I didn't bother. Comfortable beds with extra pillows. Big bathroom with two sinks and a seperated bath/shower. Minimal TV channels [just the basics], but at a casino they don't want you watching TV in your room anyway!
Buffet was better than average.
Normally I would never recommend a Vegas casino to families with children, but the Suncoast might be an execption. There are 16 theaters, 64-lanes for bowling, and a large arcade and decent snack bar. The only problem is that to get to the movie theaters is that the parents/kids have to walk to there through the casino. That was a bit annoying before many of the movies start at nearly the same time.
I was there the night of the Rose Bowl game and the bars were a zoo. After the game however, things returned to status quo. Great place for a night or two, but if you get 'cabin fever', make sure you have a car!
