My husband and I stayed here with some friends over the July 4th weekend and while there are many good things about the hotel, I would NOT stay here again.

The main reason I would not come back to this hotel is that it is too loud and busy. There is a VERY loud bar in the basement of the hotel. The music goes until 2 AM (not an exaggeration) and we could hear it clearly in our room on the far opposite end of the hotel. Also, the bed in our room was right by the window, so that even with the window closed we could hear the conversations of people walking by on the street and the loud shouts of people at the bar. I had a very hard time sleeping here.

Another negative was that the air conditioning did not work very well. Even when we had it set on high, it only kicked on for about 5 minutes every hour. It only kept the room moderately comfortable and it was not a very hot weekend. Of course at night it would have been nice to open the window, but the noise outside prevented it.

Finally, all of the rooms at the hotel are slightly different in layout. Some might find this charming, but I felt a little ripped off. Our friends in the room next door had a significantly larger room (at least 1/3 larger than ours) that had a nice size seating area and a small dining table. Our room had no dining table and a sitting area that felt small even with only two people in it, but of course was the same price.

To be fair, there are several good things about this hotel. It was very clean and the refrigerator and microwave were nice to have. It was only a 10 minute walk to the beach and there are plenty of restaurants and shops close by, so we were able to park our car and not use it the whole weekend.

All in all, I would not stay here again because I prefer a place where I can go to sleep when I want to, not a place where I have to wait until the bar closes down to get some peace and quiet. However, if you enjoy closing the bar down and partying into the early morning, this might be just the place for you.

This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. The biggest problem is the inability to sleep - mainly due to the bar underneath the hotel that plays very loud music until 2 AM. We were not told about this bar in advance even though they knew we had a group coming with babies. My bed might as well have been in the middle of the dance floor that's how loud it was! There were a lot of other little problems too including poor staff and junky rooms that were way over priced. One of the couples we went with got put in a smoking room with out asking for one even though the person who booked the reservation knew they were coming with a little baby. And we couldn't even get little things we needed like a can opener (we had a "kitchenette" in our room but there were no dishes or utensils for use to use) or trash bags when we asked. Once again, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!

I grew up in South Haven, and it is indeed a small town and thats why I think you get the service you do. The staff and Management are just not experienced and don't care because it's mainly all tourists so their attitudes are just bad about everything. The rooms are way over priced and you do not get what you pay for, so beware when you make a reservation for a specific room, They change it acoording to what they want to sell that room for, their all about money and don't care about their customers. I would never stay there again. So save your money and there are other Hotels in the area that would be alot more up to standard then this place.

“Great location but not great service”

I recently spent a delightful getaway in this quaint harbor town but it definitely ended on a sour note thanks to the unresponsive staff at this inn. The rooms are musty smelling (its right on the water) but quaint and cute and very convienient to the town. Unfortunately when i had some minor problems during and after my stay i found out how much good service counts in making a vacation a pleasant one. Carefully consider before making this your choice...its worth driving to town to receive good service. I still never get a response to any emails or calls to the manager at this inn.

“Great Place”

This is the best place to stay in South Haven. This Hotel is downtown and on the riverfront, some rooms have a view of Lake Michigan. There are two restraunts and bars on the property and cute shops downstairs, like the Warner wines that has a tasting room and an ice cream shop that also serves food until 2:30 am. One bar next to the Hotel is an old Mississippi river boat. If you want to be where everything is going on, then this is the place for you.
