A diamond in the rough. This is a top notch Inn. Very pet friendly, our dog has diabetes and is 3/4 blind, the Inn kept her medication in the refridgerator for us, we had a separate entrance for our room from the Inn. We were free to bring her around with the exception of the dining hall. Staff was "great", the room was so romantic and "old world" charm. Our son had an adjoining room, with his own bathroom. The food was spectacular. YUMMY! We loved our stay and are so very happy that we found this Inn. We would rate this Inn as a 10, with 10 being the best score available. Beautilful location. Very easy to find, with easy access to anywhere on the cape. Give it a try, you will be just as happy as we are.

The Piper's.

“Cluttered, Shabby, Grungy”

Terrible place. Was told we had a canopy bed - it was some fabric stapled to the ceiling to give the illusion of a canopy. The "king" bed was really two Salvation Army quality twin beds pushed together, and covered with a king mattress. The mattress was old, lumpy, and had springs digging into our back all night. It was also covered in plastic so it crinkled every time we moved. The other furniture was cheap and old. The chair had rips. The mattress had cigarette burns. The room was small. The bathroom was smaller.

Dinner was edible, but just barely. Bland, overcooked food. They said dinner was included. Actually, the main course and a salad was included. Appetizers, drinks, and dessert were extra. They said they had a full bar. I asked for a dirty martini. The waitress was confused and called the manager. The manager was confused and asked me to describe to him how to make it. I said forget it.

Breakfast was OJ, tea, coffee, and some pastries out of plastic pack from Safeway.

The people were friendly.

The whole place was sad, really.

“Peaceful, rich in colonial history, guest are interesting and friendly, food A++”

A friend, highly recommended this old, revolutionary period "Colonial House Inn" to me.

"The Colonial House Inn". The very old, Colonial House Inn make you feel like you are part of the moment, back in the historic time, where the "militia" the minutemen would meet at the Inn, to keep the village, generally informed, on the news, weather, tides, and the coastal watch report of the day, and have a few .

Places to stop, and rest well, reflect on thoughts of times and place.

This is the place to eat well and drink some, before retiring to a very peaceful and restful place.

All the rooms are different in layout and in furnishings. Interesting rooms of variety and all comfortably and thoughtfully furnished.

You can almost feel the colonial spirits on watch, all night, colonials’ guarding, not seen, but sometimes heard. The feeling is, like you are sleeping in a very historic, (National Historic Register. in fact) a ship like structure, a strong, colonial manse, with a watchful, helpful crew, all about you, at all times. Quiet, very quiet.

I have had the pleasure to stay at the Colonial House Inn, Yarmouth Port for stays, of 3 months period, and at various times, at different times of the year, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring times. Every time, was as expected, quiet, friendly, accommodating, the food...unbelievable, a person could leave this place after 3 months of stay 10 lbs. heavier, I know, I did....

f I had to recommend anything about the Colonial House Inn, I would have to say, everything was beyond my expectations.

I will not look for any other place to stay, when I am on the cape.

Think about this, when you stay at the Colonial House Inn, you are centrally located on the Cape Cod, for access to everything. All is available to you, even the Islands.

Try it, your going to like the way you feel.....not the way you look, if you stay here too long.(you will be heavier when you leave, I guarantee it. those meals are so good and plenty, the best, when you've experience the Inn, like I have.

My friend was right; it does not get any better than this place.

Ps. do not be surprised if you run into a famous "Hollywood Actor/s when you stay at Colonial House Inn. I met several and had several interesting conversations, allot of laughs and few drinks with, several famous big screen actors, during my stay.

One other thing, people seem, so relaxed around here, and are a real pleasure to be around. There are of course, some repeat visiting locals, some real interesting characters.

Anyway, thank you Mac, he is the Innkeeper, the one who understands your needs and has every detail covered. Mac is also the person that pays all the bills.

Thank you Bob, he is the person that meets you at the door, and attends to every detail, is capable of doing 3-4 things at once. I personally witnessed Bob, in extreme hot summer temperatures, Bob is helping guest after guest, helping with their bags, making arrangements for rooms, handing out keys to rooms, while offering a cold bottles of water, while greeting the new guest at the Inn, and is at your assistance if needed.

Then there is Ugne, she is just wonderful, she just makes you feel so good. Ugne can also do 3-4 things at once, and attends to your needs, if you are so lucky.

Oh yeah, Jeff, he feeds the birds, cuts the lawns, paints, Jeff does everything and keeps this ship; in shape.

George, he create the almost impossible to finish Gourmet like, special meals...unreal.

All the waiters and servers are all European, respectful, patient, friendly, and interesting and always are around when you need them. Although, I have overheard, rumblings, of the management; they were of the opinion, that for their guest, if it is not the best effort. It is not good enough for their guest. The Innkeeper, insist on a professional attitude, and service to the entire guest.

Did I forget something, oh, all the time, but when I do, someone at the Inn, is there to remind me. Everyone looks after to you, it is something to experience.

I give it five stars rating, but do not tell this to Mac, The price of the room with the meals, bar bill is extra, for all of above, is a bargain.

I hope everyone will get the chance to stay at the Colonial House Inn, but do not tell to many people, just my friends.

Consider yourself lucky if you can secure a reservation for a room or rooms and for dinner.

Best thing to do, call in advance for reservation, call early, see when you plan to be on Cape Cod, and check with Mac, Bob and see what is available. Make reservations early.

You will never know, unless you try it.

“Great Mystery Weekend”

The Colonial House Inn

Jan 2, 2008

In November I gave my Husband a gift certificate to a Mystery Weekend At this Charming Inn on Cape Cod. Although we did receive a Mystery Brochure in advance, neither of us knew exactly what to expect. Well it was excellent. From the time we arrived on Friday through check-out on Sunday, we had a ball. The hors d'ourves at the social Hour on Friday evening(scene 1), Then dinner (great selection) through the dessert Party (scene 2) all were excellent. Saturday evening was a repeat of Friday, with different food selections but just as delicious. We were amazed as the total price for the entire weekend including the room, parties, dinners and mystery fees was only $330.00 for the two of us. We met many other couples who were in our Mystery and had a great weekend. We will definitely do it again next year.

“Stay here only in an emergency”

The Colonial House Inn

On checking in at the Colonial House we were informed that we were expected to tip the staff because, they said, the staff aren't paid enough to live on if they don't receive tips. Well, it's hardly the fault of the staff if they don't earn enough, so make sure that you add $20 a night to the room rate as you'll need to tip at breakfast and dinner and leave something for the person making up your room. On checking out I was even asked whether I had "paid all my tips".

The building has charm, but this makes it all the more tragic that it has been allowed to grow so shabby and dirty. The pool area absolutely stinks. The innkeeper is eccentric and affable but it's a shame that his affability doesn't stretch to providing his guests with anything other than the most uninspired breakfast imaginable. Our room was spacious, but shabby and peculiar smelling. The plumbing was noisy and the lavatory needed gentle coaxing to stop the cistern running once it was filled. The view from the window was obscured by a huge plastic air-conditioner that looked as if it has served time as an extractor fan above a deep-fat frier.

I have to say that I've stayed in worse places (albeit in Eastern Europe) but since there are many competitively-priced hotels on Cape Cod you'd do well to give this place a miss.
