“My wife & I loved this hotel and we're coming back”

Hyatt Place Medford

4 of 5 stars
West Islip, NY

My wife and I came here for the Star Wars exhibit at the MOS, Museum of Science. We liked the hotel very much. It has an underground parking garage (free). There's a bus stop nearby. Hotel is easy to get to. Has a computer there to check your email. Free popcorn, tea, hot chocolate which is kinda nice. Also a very nice breakfast. From what I've heard, its been renovated so it could only be better and the price is not that bad considering how expensive all the hotels are in the Boston area. We're coming back for The Police concert at Fenway in July.

“Newly Refubished and Changing to Hyatt Place Soon”

We wanted a room for one night to catch a plane from BOS the next day. This came up to be near Logan Airport. It is actually about 8 miles away but the price was under $100. The hotel is in the process of changing over to Hyatt Place in June, 2007. They are refurbishing all of the rooms and we had one that had been complete and iwas very nicely appointed. The decor was clean and crisp with a nice wet bar with Refrigerator and coffee maker. It has a sitting room with a sofa and nice desk. Also, our room had a 46" Flat Screen TV which was wonderful. We were very pleased. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was enjoyable They only make a couple of runs to the airport each day and not in the morning so we kept our car but they will take you to the T line stations.

“Wow...is this the same hotel?”

Hyatt Place Medford

4 of 5 stars
Buffalo, NY

Just checked into the Amerisuites this am (yes, I got here at 9 am and they had a room for me) and boy, is it different than what other travelers found. I was put in a "newly refurbished" room on the 8th floor. It's a minisuite, with beautiful contemporary furniture, a separte very large sectional and ottoman, a huge flat screen tv (! really!) (I'd say at least 36"), microwave, fridge and coffee maker. Nice, comfy king sized bed with lots of soft pllows.

The hotel also has free wifi...no problem connecting. My room is on the 8th floor with a great view of Boston. You can take public transportation and they'll send the van to get you at the nearest stop. But I opted for a cab...it's Saturday am, and there's no traffic, so it was 25.00 pus $6.50 for the tolls.

Service is great too, so far. I needed a sewing kit...no problem. And breakfast is continental but with make your own waffles; there was also cottage cheese and hard boiled eggs for us protein fiends.

Downsides? Maybe the noisy a/c, and the ordinary bathroom...but everything is very new and clean.

I haven't yet checked out the pool or fitness room, but they are upgrading everything and turning this into a Hyatt....and I only paid $107 AAA rate on the hotel website.

Would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend it.

“Excellent hotel”

Hyatt Place Medford

Oct 9, 2006

This hotel was very nice.

My husband is in a wheelchair so we asked for an accessible room which is what we got. The room was around 85% accessible just a little problem with the toilet which we got round between us as the hand rails a little high to transfer unaided.

The staff where extremely pleasant and very helpful on our arrival.

There is a complimentary shuttle bus which unfortuantely is not wheelchair accessible the driver offered to lift my husband to which we declined as he may have had an accident ie dropped him. However, the bus stop is right opposite that will take you to Wellington station for 95c for me and 25c for my husband. Once at Wellington you can get to almost anywhere for a few $. The staff at Wellington are only to happy to help. Then for your return you just go to platform 2 at the bus station to bring you back to the hotel as the bus stop is outside the hotel.

The complimentary breakfast was very nice.

The downside to this hotel is that there are not many places to eat at night unless you like pizza, pasta, burgers or chips and it shuts down around 10pm. Also the air conditioning unit does come on and off all night and can be a little noisy, so go in the spring when you don't need it.

The hotel offers a business room free of charge where you can access the internet on their computer for free which is great.

If you need a cab to go back to the airport and you need an accessible one then ask the reception to order it the night before as we had a fine time trying to get back to the airport as it is Medford State Law that they can only ring one cab company who only have 1 accessible cab.

On the whole a good base which I would recommend.

“could use renovations!”

Hyatt Place Medford

2 of 5 stars
new jersey
Aug 22, 2006

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and we were pretty disappointed. The pool looked more like a mosquito breeding place- it was full of bugs. Then the exercise room contained 4 machines- 2 treadmills, a bike, and a step machine. When my husband started jogging on the treadmill, I told him he'd better stop before the whole hotel collapses- that's how old and junky the machines were.
The exterior of the hotel looks beautiful, but you shouldn't be fooled by that or the appearance of the lobby. The room was pretty crowded because it was a suite. The paint was peeling in several places on the ceiling. The wallpaper needed some touch-ups, especially in the bathroom.
There are a few good things about the hotel though. It was a very close drive to downtown Boston (that is if you don't get lost along the way). I paid a decent price- $119 a night. Most hotels near Boston were a lot more. It was recently acquired by Hyatt, so if you stay there for a night and join Hyatt Gold Passport (it's free), you get a free night stay at any Amerisuites. Even though it's Hyatt, the service is not like Hyatt service. When I couldn't figure out how to use the free wi-fi with my laptop, the guy at the front desk was going to come up to our room to set it up for me. The number that they gave me for wi-fi service was disconnected.
I would recommend the hotel only for its location. Otherwise, I'd say: STAY AWAY!
