I have been fortunate enough to stay at the Wyndham (formerly a Sheraton) nearly every week since 10/1/2007 for business. The transition from Sheraton to Wyndham occured around 12/7/2007, so I have been able to see a magnificent transition from a hotel that was in dire need of a facelift to one that offers a new look that is very modern, attractive, and appealing.
The changes you notice will be obvious when you first drive up to the main entrance which was all redone making the entrance more attractive and also makes hotel access much easier. Next, you will notice that the lobby has been completely stripped and redone with a more modern, brighter look. Each of the rooms have also been redone with new carpeting, high-end bed linens, thermostat controls, etc.
I encourage everyone to sign-up in the By Request program that will yield many nice amenities after 2-3 stays. Being on the top floor with access to the club lounge is a huge perk, plus you will have a a nice size frig and microwave in your room.
Other parts of the hotel that are very nice is the gym, which has more than enough equipment to get a good workout, large indoor pool, huge hot tub, and an excellent restaurant.
These are all worth checking out, but my favorite part of the hotel is the staff. I have stayed at many, many hotels as a part of my business travels, but you will not find another hotel with a more knowledgeable and courteous staff. They will absolutely bend over backwards to make sure your stay better than you expected it to be.
My favorite dishes in the restaurant are their New England Clam Chowder (only $5 for a large bowl) and grilled chicken with mixed vegetables, then a Long Island Iced Tea from the best bartenders in Portland to wash it down.
If you get a chance to travel to Portland Maine, give it a shot.
