“nice small town-great B&B”

Franklin

Franklin is on Bayou Teche and is a nice place to stay to tour mid-Cajun country. Franklin has a nice historical district, but perhaps the greatest attraction is the B&B in which we stayed-Prevost House. It is quite new and as of this date has not been advertised. It is wonderful in every way. It is worth staying there and driving little day trips to Morgan City, New Iberia, Avery Island, St Martinville, etc and then coming back to Prevost House. Or just staying at teh house and enjoying it. We do not exaggerate in saying it is the nicest B&B we have ever stayed in.
The Prevost House is a very old victorian that owner Donna has done a spectacular job in restoring top-to-bottom. The main house has one bedroom and a HUGE bathroom. Everything has been done properly to period except that Donna cleverly redid the bathroom with a nice long adult height full countertop with double sinks (to avoid those old pedestal sinks with no counter space) to complement to clawfoot tub. And she added a nice shower stall. The bathroom is so large (it was formerly a bedroom), she put a big poof in the middle of the room. The kitchen was also modernized. Ceiliings are all twelve feet and there are lots of windows, and big wrap-around porch. The house is a long walk from downtown attractions, but the house is sooooooooooooo nice, it is worth getting in the car to get places.
Donna and Evelyn are very nice and make your stay really enjoyable. Evelyn comes in and cooks breakfast for you. The cupboards are nicely stocked with snacks and condiments, etc. The refrig has sodas. We cooked our dinners there and ate them on the porch. Perfect.
They will probably give you ginger cakes made at the bakery in nearby Jeanrette. Unique---we got some more to take home to friends..
We enjoyed Prevost House so much, we changed our trip in order to be able to come back for a second night.
Try to get the main house bedroom--it is almost like staying in your own private home. The B&B has a nice, but smaller second unit with its own small kitchen. And Donna has moved in another old house to restore as a third unit.
