I booked the room using my Hilton Honors points. We had a king, non-smoking room, #429. It was at the very end of the hall on the fourth floor. We stayed on a Friday night since we were in town for a concert at the Kansas Coliseum.
The hotel is very nice in a newer corporate area of Wichita. Check-in and out was very easy. They had complimentary cookies at check-in, which is a nice touch (similar to Doubletree). I noticed the staff was extremely friendly. I have a customer service background and was impressed. The front desk personnel greeted us every time we left and returned. Even the grounds keeper who was cleaning outside the morning we left greeted us.
This hotel has many amenities. There is a nice work-out room, pool, laundry room, business center and library for guests. The complimentary breakfast buffet variety was excellent, but some of the food quality was sub-par. They offer pancakes, waffles (pre-made), sausage links, bacon, eggs with green onions, breakfast burritos and all of the other continental breakfast items you would expect at a hotel that serves continental breakfast. One nice touch is the milk machine with both skim and 2%. This is much better than having milk in a iced pitcher since the milk in the machines is usually very cold. They also have a juice machine with orange, grape, cranberry and apple, I believe. They also have iced down tomato juice in cans, coffee (regular and flavored), tea and hot chocolate. The reason I mentioned that some of the breakfast items were sub-par was because the bacon was very limp, cold and looked undone (baked in an oven). The pancakes were not warm, so we warmed them in the microwave and were similar to McDonalds pancakes. The breakfast burritos were terrible. The sausage was link type and spongy but tasked fine. The eggs were very hot and pretty good. They had a pound coffee cake with nuts that was excellent.
The buffet area is located inside next to the patio. The patio is decorated with nice chairs, bar tables and couches situated next to a lake with geese. If it would have been warm, we would have sat outside and enjoyed the scenary and breakfast. The setting was very pretty. I have to say the breakfast bar/evening dinner is a nice plus to staying at this hotel.
OK, on to the important stuff; The room. The bed was soft and comfortable. The linens and down comforter were very clean. The room was spotless. I always check the bathroom first to see if there's hair in the shower and the toilet is clean, and then I move on to the bed/pillows. I am a stickler when it comes to hotel cleanliness. I believe if a hotel is visably dirty, then imagine how filthy it must really be. We stay at a lot of hotels and have had some horrible experiences in the past.
This all-suite hotel is nice since there's a small kitchen/bar area, living area and then a heavy door to the bedroom. The bathroom is next to the bedroom and it's fairly large. The toiletries were supplied with Neutrogena products and Hilton provides Q-tips, shoe shine pads, etc. The couch, chair, kitchen area, bathroom and bedroom were very nice and newer looking (see photos). The decor was calm, darker colors with a pineapple motif. The bathroom wallpaper was kind of strange though since it was red with a cream background that had images of men, women and children in 1800's garb. It just didn't go with the rest of the decor, IMO.
There was a desk/chair for our laptop. We have a wireless card, so we didn't use the hotel internet service. There was a full refrigerator, stove top, dishwasher w/dishwasher detergent, dishes, microwave, basically everything you need to be at home for a while. We could honestly live at this hotel if we had to. It reminds me of being on a cruise ship with the complimentary meals and other amenities, minus the entertainment. They also provide microwave popcorn, tea and coffee w/coffee maker in the kitchen. There was both ceramic and styrofoam cups, which is nice if you're a germophobe. There is a small store area by the front desk where you can purchase frozen items, ice cream, etc.
We were there on a Friday night, so we missed the complimentary evening dinner items. There was a calendar on the refrigerator that had the daily menu items and they have items like fried chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetable medley, chicken fried steak, etc. (comfort foods). I heard a couple of foreign businessmen discussing where they were going to dinner and seemed very disappointed they couldn't eat at the hotel that evening. There are also several nice restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, Fox and Hound and Bonefish Grill to name a couple. The hotel is close to an airport since we could hear planes taking off and landing a couple of times. It must not be too busy though since it was only a couple of times.
The only two complaints I have about the room:
1.) The televisions are kind of small (I believe 27") but were flat screens. We are kind of spoiled since we're used to a 42" plasma.
2.) When you walk around, it sounds very loud and the floor shakes a little bit, so you know the person below has to be bothered by it. We didn't have anyone above us, so we didn't experience what it sounded like. We tried to walk lightly around the room so as not to irritate our downstairs neighbors.
The AC worked well. The room was extremely warm upon arrival so we set it on 60 before leaving for the evening. We like it on the cool side and it was very cool when we got back. We also grabbed some coffee/hot chocolate upon returning back around mid-night. It was available in the buffet area. This was another positive about this hotel.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again if we are in the Wichita area. Please contact me with any questions. Hope this helps you!
