This hotel is literally at the foot of one of the entrance ramps to Rock Island Arsenal. If traveling to there, this is a great hotel choice. If traveling for any other reason to Moline and the Quad Cities, this is a great hotel choice, particularly for those with children or just looking for a good value.
The motto of this hotel is "bringing the great outdoors indoors" and from the moment you enter and see the stuffed moose overlooking the check-in area (look over right should while standing at counter) , the overstuffed chairs with outdoor themed cushions, the large fireplace, and the natural wood and stone, you get it.
OK, the moose, bear skin and bison head on the wall in the inner lobby and stuffed near life-size bears holding trays of mints at entry to the hotel dining area may not be for everyone, but the value and comfort offered by this hotel should be.
Start with the room. Yes, the theme continues here, with maple furniture, lamps with log cabin bases and pine cones on the lamp shades, log-style room supports, etc but the room is extra large, all the furniture is very comfortable (including the easy chair with outdoorsy cushion) and the king size bed was plush yet firm. Only quibbles I had was the bathroom was rather small and there were no refrigerator nor microwave in the room, but the other amenities in the room and hotel are good for the price paid. The hotel supplies generous amounts of shampoo and skin cream (in mini-jars), a hair dryer, and coffee maker. TV was about 27 inch with lots of free channels but no HBO or Showtime. Room was very clean with no stains evident on furniture or carpet.
The real value of this hotel is outside the room. They are close to being a resort destination. The hotel has a nice screen porch with plenty of rockers. There is a business center with two computers and printer - all free. There is a very large indoor / outdoor pool area - swim under wall to get between connecting pools - and hot tub. The large (for hotel) exercise room has several aerobic machines, a weight resistance machine, and a steam room area. The lobby is very large with many chairs and couches and fireplace - a very nice area just to relax or read.
There is an excellent sports bar in the hotel -- no food except snacks but just two block away is an excellent pub restaurant, The River House, that I highly recommend. Also close that I tried and enjoyed is Mexican restaurant La Flama (about five blocks away). Prices at booth are very reasonable. The Chop House, for those interested in more formal dining (and more expensive) is across from River House. Other choices for eating (TGIF, as example) are in walking distance. Hotel desk very helpful in providing directions to all.
If you think you might like a late night snack or desert, buy it at the family bakery next door to the River House - cookies are terrific and all the assorted pastries sure looked good!
Breakfast was better than average but not outstanding. Standard cereals and decent coffee but while I was there, I think they forgot to properly dilute the juices - all were syrupy sweet. They also have fresh fruit daily, several types of yogurt, good donuts and decent bagles, and cream beef on biscuits.
Fresh cookies are offered in lobby daily but if want, get there early. Days I was there, always gone by 5:00pm.
Told very good wi-fi coverage in rooms.
All in all, I know I got a great value. The room is average to above average. What makes this hotel outstanding is the expansive and comfortable lobby, the on-site sports-type bar, and the great general use areas (particularly the pool, the fitness center, and the business center). If you have children, they are really going to enjoy the very nice pool area.
If I return to the Quad Cities area, definitely will stay here again.
