“Forgot I was at an Airport Hotel”

Courtyard by Mariott Atlanta Airport North

4 of 5 stars
Roosevelt
Jan 19, 2008

I read the reviews and sought advice from a previous reviewer prior to booking my stay.

I was concerned upon entering the hotel because it was an airport hotel. My concerns were dashed when we arrived at the front lobby. It was beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The staff was friendly and very helpful.

We were greeted immediately and recognized as a Marriott member. Check-in took maybe 3 minutes.

Our room had comfortable bedding, a desk with chair, a separate lounge chair, and TV. The bathroom was a nice size including the shower and toilet. The sink and vanity was outside the bathroom. The only disappointment was the HUGE temperature control unit. It was outdated and noisy. However it worked. It cooled the room during the day and heated the room during the night.

Nice hotel perks were having 2 computers in the lobby that had FREE ACCESS for Internet and MS Office Applications. Also Free Fax Service for either incoming or outgoing use.

The free airport shuttle was useful and is available 24 hours. It provides service to the airport and local restaurants.

Some booking advice; make sure you ask for a room on the opposite side of the interstate. Note the scheduled airport shuttle times, so you have minimal waiting time. This is a smoke free hotel, so don't stay here if you need to leave your room every 5 minutes to smoke. Also secure a seat on the comfy couches in the lobby 15 minutes before the major football game to watch it on the huge flat screen TV!

“Would Stay Again--BUT...”

Courtyard by Mariott Atlanta Airport North

I stayed here with my two young daughters, and I'd stay again, but I do have a few complaints.

On the good side:

Most of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful (one bad apple in the bunch, but he was only minor annoyance).
The room was clean.
The beds were extremely comfortable.
The hotel was one of the quietest I've ever experienced in spite of being only three miles from the airport and three blocks from a large interstate!
Free coffee, tea, and hot cocoa any time of day.
We felt secure. Interior corridors, courtyard-style outdoor area-locked doors at night, and neighborhood isn't bad.
Shuttle to the airport was prompt (and fast--almost too fast! :-) )and friendly.
Outdoor pool and play area for the kids.
Indoor spa with lots of towels for the grownups.
This place is supposed to be 100% non-smoking, and they're supposed to fine guests who break the policy $200+. I am allergic to cigarette smoke and had no problems here.
Computer in the lobby connected to the net and was handy. Lobby was well-appointed, comfortable, spacious. Free newspaper and television in lobby.

On the bad side:

The outdoor pool had tons of tiny little bugs and specks of stuff floating on the top of the water.
When we reported a guy smoking on his balcony and walking in and out of his room, the front desk didn't seem like they cared at all, and we don't think they did anything about it.
Near one of the two elevators (the one farthest from the front desk), there was a smell like natural gas or burning rubber that was horrible. If I'd had a room near that, I wouldn't have been able to stay, but our room was far away at the end of the corridor.
No free breakfast; the hotel used to have one, but did not when we were there--but my kids drank enough hot chocolate to break the hotel's bank LOL!
There isn't much in the way of restaurants and no shopping within walking distance--a Waffle House, a MacDonalds, a swinging locals' hangout that's not kid friendly, and one other place that looked too expensive for us! LOL These are all a longish walk (15 minutes?) away, and I wouldn't walk there except in broad daylight (you have to go through a sort of downtownish area and along a busy highway for part of the distance).

All in all, I would definitely stay here again. We slept well, we got to the airport (and to MARTA, the subway) fast and free. We loved the staff. Everything was clean and comfortable.

This hotel was an expensive stay on a weekday. But the manager told us that prices drop by $100 on weekends! Hotels in Atlanta fill up 100% on weekdays with business travelers. At the airport, toward the end of the day, there's always a cloud of frantic business people at the courtesy phones, all unable to find a room within 40 miles.

“Very Comfortable”

I stayed at the Hapeville Courtyard after a very long flight delay and unexpected layover in Atlanta.I arrived in atlanta close to midnight. My husband had the forsight to book me a room. We used Marriott points. The shuttle to the hotel was easy enough to find. Hundred of people (most tired, hungry and angry about missed connections and cancelled flights) were scrambling to find shuttle buses to sold out hotels. Not me, I was wisked away and brought to this Courtyard within minutes. Check in was a breeze. The clerk behind the counter was VERY welcoming. My room was HUGE. The king size bed was very comfortable. I was given a suite which was lovely. Too bad I wasn't in my room long enough to enjoy it. The business center was a nice perk.I took the shuttle back to the airport at 4:45am. It was fast and convenient. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this Courtyard again.

“Good stay”

A friend and I just stayed here, and the rooms and hotel itself were very clean and decent. The only downfall would be no free breakfast.
The breakfast was a little spendy, so we went to the Waffle House just down the road (which has awesome breakfast). It was in a good location. It was very close to the airport and several restaurants. Easy access to the main highway. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

“Disgusting”

This place is nasty. I stay at alot of hotels, but I actually felt unsafe here.

They promote the hotel as a nonsmoking hotel, but that is a joke. I got off on the 2nd floor and it smelled like a bar full of smokers. You could see the smoke coming out from under the doors and there are big signs everywhere stating no smoking. Putting up non smoking signs does not make the hotel a non smoking hotel.

I made a complaint to the front desk, but the attitude I got was shocking. The front desk person said, we charge $250 if the room is smoked in. Well, don't believe it. No one pays these fines, they dispute it on their credit cards. If they are collecting money, it does not go into cleaning the rooms. After three rooms, we stopped trying to find one that had not been smoked in. People are welcome to smoke in the rooms and that is the bottom line. You can show them the smoke coming under the door and they just don't care.

Everything is vile about this place. It is in a bad area. They had a police car parked out front all the time. We were afraid to leave the room.

Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.
