“Good gone Bad.”

Best Western Mt. Vernon Inn

We booked our rooms as part of a stay for a wedding via the bride's family's recommendation. The Mt. Vernon looked OK online , and we researched the inn on TripAdvisor prior to booking. We hoped to avoid previous identified concerns by requesting rennovated courtyard rooms. Upon arrival we found the rooms attractive, spacious, and clean. We did notice that our room was connecting next door to the room on the left, but not with our family, on the right side.

1. Next morning, 5 AM, party in room on left, up and very noisy. I did not call the desk, as my wife was sleeping and had not been well. Attempted to make coffee - perked, but no delivery. Notified front desk - they would send another. 45 minutes later, I got a replacement myself from a maid. It would not switch on. Head of housekeeping brought us a 3rd unit, and we were able to make coffee. To make some phone calls, I needed to use a flashlight for instructions as the desk light wouldn't function. When maintenance brought coffee maker #3, they said the outlet was faulty, so the light could only be used by plugging in to power strip, but light had no switch on it.
2. 2nd morning - time for coffee. 3rd unit no longer functioning. My son was checking out next door, so we swapped coffee makers. It worked the balance of the stay. Noise again through the connecting door that evening, but we were tired and got to sleep.
3. Next day and last evening - got in late and bed at 11:30, Flying out in the AM. Loud TV noise next door. Still awake at 1:00, I called main desk. Did so again at 1:30, was advised they would call - we could hear it ringing. At 2:00 I walked to the office - manager could not leave desk to go to room and there was no security to do so. We were offered room next door to solve noise problem. I asked for # to call Best Western - they were closed. Went back to our room, TV still blaring next door, and at 2:30 AM changed rooms - very quiet for 4 hours of sleep.
4. Before checkout, called Best Western requesting some compensation. Did so again at checkout with Mt. Vernon manager, who was also insistent that the other coffee makers were OK, and we were the problem. Why did we have no difficulty with the one from son's room? No resolution here - only I'm sorry apologies.

This could be a first rate facility, but we were definitely in a bad room. Majority of staff pleasant and accommodating. Managerial and maintenance/infrastructure issues made for a poor experience, and Best Western was not sympathic to our problems. And by all means, avoid a connecting room, unless you know that occupant.

“When a Motel Is Just a Motel”

Best Western Mt. Vernon Inn

We have stayed at the Mt. Vernon several times over the years because of its convenience to my mother's house -- also because there aren't many choices in this central location. The motel is only a few blocks from the beautiful Park Ave. shopping district.

This motel is your average motel. When we stayed there in Feb. 2008, though, we noticed that the place is showing its age. The bathroom was clean and perfectly functional (with hair dryer, coffee maker), but the plain tub with its limp shower curtain seemed dated. Also, the people next door kept the TV going until midnight. We had never before noticed how thin the walls were.

“Reasonable hotel and good location in Winter Park”

Stayed 3 nights - Hotel in a good location for Winter Park area, within walking distance. Room rate a bit expensive for the quality of room provided but there are limited hotels in this area. Room size was adequate and had two double beds which is good as my Wife and I could not sleep in the same bed because the mattress was so sunk in the middle we literally kept rolling into each other. Noise from the pool area should stop at 10pm but nobody polices this and we had a group of youngsters outside our room running around quite late one night keeping us awake. Road was busy on the front and noisy but not far too to walk for Restaurants. Room smelled as if people had smoked in it before but was a "non smoker". Never tried the restaurant. Visited Leu Gardens and Orlando Science Museum (very good). Toilet, washbasin and bathroom area clean and very good. Rest of room could have been better, was a bit "tired". Room did not have fridge but had coffee and hair dryer. No Internet.

“Nice hotel for a group!”

My family (grandmother, aunt, cousin & parents) stayed here last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The rooms were clean, fairly large and quite comfortable. Noise in the hotel was a more than I would have liked at times, but this was mostly due to other groups who were talking as they walked down the hallways. The restaurant (open from 7 am till 2 pm) seems a haven for locals and the bar was enjoyable but no noise could be heard in the rooms. I plan to stay here anytime I'm in the Orlando area.

I travel for work (so does my aunt - often staying in 4 star hotels) and the Mt Vernon Inn was just lovely. Right next to a lovely park and practically walkable to the very nice downtown area of Winter Park (and the fantastic Saturday farmer's market).

All rooms have a small refrigerator and there are two grocery stores within just a few blocks, plus many restaurants.

“Would Never Recommend”

Best Western Mt. Vernon Inn

Long story short. Dirty hotel with loud guests, squashed dead roach on my pillow when I pulled back the comforter. Nice staff, they refunded our money and we went elsewhere. Never slept in room but it was dark and dingy.
