We booked our rooms as part of a stay for a wedding via the bride's family's recommendation. The Mt. Vernon looked OK online , and we researched the inn on TripAdvisor prior to booking. We hoped to avoid previous identified concerns by requesting rennovated courtyard rooms. Upon arrival we found the rooms attractive, spacious, and clean. We did notice that our room was connecting next door to the room on the left, but not with our family, on the right side.
1. Next morning, 5 AM, party in room on left, up and very noisy. I did not call the desk, as my wife was sleeping and had not been well. Attempted to make coffee - perked, but no delivery. Notified front desk - they would send another. 45 minutes later, I got a replacement myself from a maid. It would not switch on. Head of housekeeping brought us a 3rd unit, and we were able to make coffee. To make some phone calls, I needed to use a flashlight for instructions as the desk light wouldn't function. When maintenance brought coffee maker #3, they said the outlet was faulty, so the light could only be used by plugging in to power strip, but light had no switch on it.
2. 2nd morning - time for coffee. 3rd unit no longer functioning. My son was checking out next door, so we swapped coffee makers. It worked the balance of the stay. Noise again through the connecting door that evening, but we were tired and got to sleep.
3. Next day and last evening - got in late and bed at 11:30, Flying out in the AM. Loud TV noise next door. Still awake at 1:00, I called main desk. Did so again at 1:30, was advised they would call - we could hear it ringing. At 2:00 I walked to the office - manager could not leave desk to go to room and there was no security to do so. We were offered room next door to solve noise problem. I asked for # to call Best Western - they were closed. Went back to our room, TV still blaring next door, and at 2:30 AM changed rooms - very quiet for 4 hours of sleep.
4. Before checkout, called Best Western requesting some compensation. Did so again at checkout with Mt. Vernon manager, who was also insistent that the other coffee makers were OK, and we were the problem. Why did we have no difficulty with the one from son's room? No resolution here - only I'm sorry apologies.
This could be a first rate facility, but we were definitely in a bad room. Majority of staff pleasant and accommodating. Managerial and maintenance/infrastructure issues made for a poor experience, and Best Western was not sympathic to our problems. And by all means, avoid a connecting room, unless you know that occupant.
