“Great for Business Travers”

Sheraton Orlando Downtown

4 of 5 stars
Minneapolis
Jun 29, 2008

This was a great hotel for business travelers. I have travel to a lot of places, and have stayed in some bad hotels to good ones. This was a great away weekend for my girlfriend and I. This was a good hotel. It is disigned for business travelers, which was great for my girlfriend and I. We do not have children, so this was a great quiet place for us. But your only a cab ride from the clubs downtown, which was only a $10-$15 cab ride. I would suggest this hotel to anyone.

“Nice decor doesn't outweigh significant issues here...”

On arriving late night to a pre-paid room for check in I really wanted to like this property. I had heard from business colleagues that the hotel had been remodeled and looked great. They were right, the hotel was well decorated and looked very nice. Lipstick on a pig, as I was soon to find out.

I was assigned a room on the 8th floor and despite asking for a corner room away from the elevators, I was told they were nearly full up and would receive the best available that matched my booking. I went to the room to find...it was adjacent the elevators. Thankfully the vending area had a glass door on it since that was 15 feet from my door as well. I arrived in the room to find it nicely decorated, but as I made my way around to put stuff up and turn on some lights - I began noticing the laundry list of issues.

Immediately inside the door, only one of the light switches worked. Then I went to open the curtains and saw one of the decorator panels was obviously hanging askew. The coffeemaker came equipped with thin clear plastic wrapped cups, obviously not for drinking hot coffee. The bathroom had the light over the shower out. The toilet was running with the tank refilling every few minutes and...no toilet paper but there was an empty roll and a box of tissues. The frame surround for the bathroom mirror was broken in the lower corner. There was no hotel guide binder of phone numbers, hotel amenities, etc.

After thinking this was probably just a fluke, I quickly called down to the front desk and read off the issues, and noted that while I’ll have the DND hanger on the door, staff should please enter to address the deficiencies anytime. I had business meetings the next day and an evening dinner out, so I wouldn’t be back to the room until late the next night. The desk clerk was enthusiastic and empathetic that it would be taken care of but due to the late hour it would be taken care of the next day.

Unfortunately, nothing had been done to the room on my return the next night. I was surprised, to say the least. I believe it completely relevant that this hotel property is in a bankruptcy reorganization and it is my opinion that this is a contributing reason for the poor service and maintenance deferral.

The outright failure to address the concerns doesn't negate that the hotel looks pretty decent for a first impression. Unfortunately, my experience leads me no alternative but to to recommend a one star review, and that is only because zero isn’t an option.

“Very Deceiving”

Sheraton Orlando Downtown

2 of 5 stars
Jensen Beach, FL
Jun 23, 2008

We booked the room initially thinking it would be right in downtown Orlando, which is what the name states. However, the hotel is actually about 5-7 miles from the downtown area which is quite a hike. If you are staying here I recommend bringing your laptop or preprinted information on the area as there is no concierge and the staff knows nothing of the area, so you are on your own. We asked three different employees for recommendations for breakfast or dinner and not once was the hotel restaurant mentioned nor any other place instead we were just given a head nod. We had to drive around till we found a place. It would have been nice knowing how little the staff knew about the area before going, so we could have prepared better. We did find a very romantic restaurant about 10 miles away called Bravissimo which was really great.

In reality there are no open businesses within walking distance of the hotel. You have to drive to find anything that is open.

On a good note, the bed was very comfortable.

“OK.. but not for full price”

Sheraton Orlando Downtown

3 of 5 stars
Tacoma, Washington
Jun 14, 2008

It was our last night of an almost 2 week Florida vacation staying with family and friends. Since we are considering a move to central Florida, we wanted a centrally located hotel away from the main resorts. Through the Priceline gamble we won this for $120 plus fees. It probably wasn't worth more than that.

The hotel is just off I-4, but the winding streets and poor signage made finding the hotel driveway difficult. The parking garage is old, dirty and poorly lit. The elevator from the garage does not bring you to the hotel, but to a walkway that leads to the main hotel entrance. I think we paid $10 to park for the night.

Hotel staff were friendly. Pool area was clean and well-maintained. Room was clean and comfortable on an upper floor. The bed was very comfortable and free internet access was a plus!

But even 10 or 12 floors above the street, the nearby railroad tracks were much in evidence. We heard the trains coming through all night. If we didn't live in the flight path of a major air force base the trains probably would have bothered us more.

Having a Starbucks in the lobby was a definite plus! The hotel proved convenient to visits to Winter Park and East Lake Eola.

“Trains!! Water!! Trains!! Water!!!!!”

Sheraton Orlando Downtown

May 7, 2008
1/1 found this review helpful

On our way back home, My wife and I felt a little tried and decided to spent one more night in Orlando.
The hotel was easy to get to, right off I-4 exit 84.

It looked better than how it used to before and we thought that we were going to enjoy the night and rest for the drive on the next day...
We were so wrong!!

Trains woke us up THREE times at night. and the water pipes were so loud, we could not hear each other talking when someone flushes the toilat or takes a shower.
We woke up SEVEN times from that noise.
when I complained, they said that they will send an "engineer" to fix the problem, did not happen.

It is an understatement when I say that we had a horrible night.
I would not recommend this place to anyone, unless you are a extremely heavy sleeper, I thought that I was.
