“Gorgeous Hotel - Sub Par Restaurant”

JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes

4 of 5 stars
Aventura, Florida

We stayed at this hotel for one night in late June. This is a huge hotel complex built for business conferences and not really geared toward the theme park visitor like myself. Check in was very easy and parking was a short stroll away through the convention facilities. The hotel even features some nice shops and a Starbucks, which was very popular in the morning.

Our room was very nice, with one Queen bed (not a king), a sofa bed, desk, chair and a gorgeous 37 inch LG LCD TV. The bathroom was beautiful.

We did not use the pool or lazy river, but it looked fantastic. The landscaping was beautiful as was the setting. They also had bikes for rent and many other activities.

We had dinner at the Citron restaurant on the lower level and were not happy. We were told there would be a 20 minute wait to get a table only to find that the place was 80% empty. We ordered from the menu, only to be told that some items - including meatloaf - were sold out. How they could be sold out on a busy weekend - I don't know. The prices were sky high - $42 for a filet and $25 for a Caesar salad with very little chicken and 4 croutons. Our drinks were not refilled and the server seemed to busy to wait on us. We were so dissatisfied that we skipped dessert.

I would probably return to the hotel, but not if I'm going to the theme parks - I'd rather stay on-site if I could.

“By far the nicest in Orlando”

JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes

This is the nicest hotel we have ever stayed at in Orlando. From the moment the bellmen opens your car door, the staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. We were upgraded to a suite and it was just wonderful. It was very clean and the maid staff made sure you had everything you needed. The pool and lazy river (which is only 3.5ft very good for little kids) were a blast. We would stay here everytime we visit Orlando if we could! Only negative was that we ate lunch at the pool (p'nut butter and jelly, two chicken wraps and a cheesburger with soda) and it cost $75 - I almost fell out of my chair.

“Amazing Pool”

JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes

This is an amazing property. The pool is the best part. They have a lazy river going through very beautifully designed tropical foiliage. There are plenty of beach chairs and they have a great poolside bar/restaraunt. The inside of the hotel is gorgeous. This is my second business trip there and the conference attendees love this location. There is also a beautiful golf course on the premises.

“Nice Hotel But Pricey with Some Issues”

JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes

4 of 5 stars
Jupiter, FL

My wife and I stayed a the J.W. Marriott for a combination buisness/pleasure stay. The property shares some facilities with the Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes.

Pros:
1. We received a decent rate compared to other 4/5 star hotels in the area.

2. The hotel's architecture and facilities are nice. I would strongly recommend the "lazy river" pool for families or for couples.

3. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Cons:
1. I found a cockroach in the shower. It's not that the bathroom was dirty in anyway--in fact, both the bedroom and bathroom appeared to be very clean and smelled fresh. However, finding a roach is unacceptable at a hotel of the J.W.'s caliber--even if it is Florida.

2. The hotel food was average with above average prices.

3. My wife used the spa at the Ritz-Carlton for a massage and the masseuse spent a good deal of time talking about how she had wasn't feeling well and might be sick. That doesn't exactly create a "relaxing" environment that you would expect from a Ritz.

4. The in-room guest guide says that hotel offers movies by the pool in the evening. When I called to find out what the movie was going to be, I learned that this activity was no longer offered, but would instead be replaced by "cookie-decorating".

Recommendations:
I wasn't sure whether to give this property 3 or 4 stars, because it really depends what you want from a hotel. f you're a couple looking for a romantic getaway, you'd be better off staying at the Ritz. If you have kids, the J.W. Marriott is a very nice upscale hotel with amenities and services geared toward children. If you are staying with a family, I'd strongly recommend eating off-property to get quality food at a good price.
