My husband and I stayed at the Fairfield Inn in the Marriott Village from March 7-15, 2008. We are both in our late 20's and planned on coming to Orlando to visit WDW. This is a clean, no frills property, close to WDW, that suited our needs.
As you may have read, this hotel is in a gated community with two other Marriott hotels- the Courtyard Marriott and Springfield Suites. I chose the Fairfield over the other two only because of price.. the Fairfield is the least expensive. Each hotel has their own pool.
Let me be completely honest, if you are coming to Orlando to go to WDW, staying at a Disney hotel is preferred. However, to save money, we went with the Fairfield.
We traveled to Orlando during peak season. So, I was expecting a chaotic hotel and chaotic Disney. However, things were not chaotic at all.
We booked our air and hotel through JetBlue. I couldn't refuse once I saw the great reviews of this hotel at Tripadvisor and the price JetBlue was quoting me. I paid only $85/nt through JetBlue. This was half what any other website offered me. In addition, by booking through Jet Blue, our stay included free round trip shuttle to and from the four major Disney parks. (Not all packages include the shuttle at no additional cost). This hotel was well worth the $85/nt. I'd say it's worth up to $125ish a night. If your package doesn't include the shuttle, it costs $5 per person (round trip to one park each day)
The shuttle service is run through Mears and picks up at designated times each morning to go to the four disney parks. It is generally punctual! (so be on time!) There were 2 instances where it was not, one because of a breakdown, causing them to send another bus (which arrived within 10 minutes of the original time, very good response time) and the other time the bus was over 20 minutes late picking us up from one of the parks late at night - this was very annoying as we were extremely tired from our full day in the park.
We had a rental car, but used the free shuttle anyway so we could avoid parking fees at Disney. The shuttle was very convenient for us. The shuttle must be reserved prior to departure. You simply to go Mears office next to the hotel the day before or morning of and get your tickets. I'm including the schedule at the end of the report for those who are interested. I know this could be a selling point for choosing this hotel.
We requested a King Size Bed and a room overlooking the pool but were given a room overlooking the highway. (Not a big deal). The room was clean with a small refrigerator. Note that there are no safe deposit boxes in the rooms. (I knew this ahead of time). If you do want to lock something up, you have to go to the front desk. The heating and AC worked just fine. Our stay was also quiet. Our bed was ok and we slept fine.
The hotel offers free continental breakfast. We found this to be suitable on days we were going to the Disney parks and were in a rush. You can help yourself to fresh homemade waffles, four kinds of cereal, muffins, doughnuts, plain and cinnamon raisin bagels, toast, bananas, oranges, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee, milk (including skim milk), juice (OJ and apple), The staff really does a great job of keeping everything filled up. We also never had a problem getting a seat near the food. The free breakfast runs until 9:30 am on weekdays and 10:30 am on weekends. If you miss it and go to the Starbucks on premises, you will pay an arm and a leg for doughnuts and coffee. Very small doughnuts are $1.50 each and coffee is $4. Bottle beverages there are $2-$4. Very steep. On days we didn't go to the parks, we walked to the Golden Coral Buffet (right behind the hotel) and had a full buffet breakfast. ($8 per person).
We didn't use or try the pizza hut or sandwich place in the Marriott Village.
Of note, next to the Golden Coral, within walking distance, is a Bahama Breeze restaurant. Meals cost $15-$23 per person and are excellent. We ate there one night and were quite pleased.
The hotel is in close proximity to a number of good shopping options. The Orlando Premium Outlets are right down the road from the hotel. While this is walkable, we took a car and were happy to do so. These were the best outlets around. If you have a car, you can also drive to the Lake Buena Vista Outlets (only fair) and a walmart which is only 5 minutes away. Also, don't miss out on International Drive where the Prime Outlets are. There is also some great restaurants on International Drive.
We only used the pool at the Fairfield once. It was clean and is kept heated. You also have the option of using the pools at the other Marriott Village hotels.
We didn't spend much time in our room. Pretty much just to sleep. So, the hotel was perfectly fine for what we needed. We had a good stay.
