I've been wanting to stay at the Hyatt Grand Cypress ever since they built the property and finally had the chance to do so.
First, locating the entrance posed a challenge as I thought it was adjacent to the Disney Village area. However, it has it's own entrance on a side street off of Vineland. After finding the entrance, I learned that the property has security at the entrance and one must be a guest in order to receive a pass. The security guard has a list of guests to check your name.

The best thing of this hotel is its staff. Everyone from the doorman to the front desk, and housekeeping are very friendly, interested in you and seeing if you need assistance with anything.

I had booked a $199 summer special rate and asked for a room upgrade. For $175 more I was upgraded to a corner suite that had a view overlooking the pool and Disney fireworks. The room itself was very clean. Granted, the decor is quite outdated, and I've never been a fan of flowers on the wall. But the bed was the extremely comfortable bed Hyatt has now with nice threadcount sheets, feather comforter and feather pillows. BEWARE those allergic to feathers - make sure you've made the appropriate arrangements prior to your arrival.

The room was clean and saw no issues with housekeeping other than the fact that it is a huge property and it takes time for all of the rooms to be cleaned. Housekeeping was working when I checked in around 4:30pm on my floor.

In regards to the Parrots in the lobby. I'm a serious animal lover, but didn't feel too sorry for these guys. They are in a beautiful atrium, well cared for and seem to have adjusted well to their environment. Granted, it would be better that they were free, but they are pretty to look at.

I was traveling on the off season, so the property was quite empty with people. They closed La Coquina & The Chefs table for that evening and only Hemmingways was open for dinner. I decided to go to Disney Village for dinner. I was chauffered for $10 by a white town car, and made arrangements for a pick up for my return later in the evening.

For those interested, I have been at the Equestrian Center in previous years for riding lessons and the center is beautiful and the instruction was good enough that I would return for another lesson if I lived in the area.

One challenge I had was trying to find the business center so that I could check-in for my flight for the next day. After finding it ( I had passed it 3 times) I learned that there is a free computer & printer at the right of the check-in desk that you can use for checking in. I found it and the access to log on was very easy to use.

I would recommend the Hyatt for several reasons: 1.) Staff is very customer service oriented 2.) Location away from the buzz of the tourists areas 3.) Great place to hideaway and never leave due to the amenities and 4.) High quality bed & bedding.

Finally, this is a very family oriented property and saw many families with children. Not a place for singles hoping to find a good time.

I felt like I was at the Hyatt in Maui! (it's very similar) This beautiful resort, right outside the doors of Disney World is for those who don't need (or want) to be in a park EVERY day, but want somewhere they can relax or take advantage of the many resort activites. We broke our time up in Orlando by doing one day Hyatt one day Amusement park and so on. This is a resort.... plan accordingly so that you can enjoy it. If your trip to Orlando is solely to visit the parks every day, from morning to night .. then I would stay elsewhere. It would be a shame not to have time to take in this beautiful resort.

Our children loved the pool (with slides), the lake and beach (where you can take out row boats), bike riding trails and the talking Parrot in the lobby. The staff and service was 5*. I will stay here again.

“Wonderful Hotel, Attentive Staff... Altogether a Fabulous place to stay..!”

My disabled infant son & l have just spent 11 nights at this lovely hotel.. We were given the highest level of service at every turn & nothing was too much trouble for the welcoming staff..

I had only booked the lowest catagory of room, the "Garden View", but the room was lovely, decorated in cool greens & florals. My balcony looked out over the beautiful lake and grounds.. It was very restfiul to sit on in the mornings while i gave my son breakfast, or with a cool drink whilst he enjoyed a nap..
My kingsize bed was very comfortable & made up each day with lots of pillows & a comforter... There was an in room mini-bar, but I opted to rent a fridge for $25 & got my own drinks & snacks from the local store.. It was a very spacious room & I had a roll-in shower room due to my sons disability, which made life easier for us.
Maid service was good, and you get to choose which time of the day you would like to get your room serviced... Extras were not a problem, if we needed anything, tea/coffee, towels etc I just left a note with the tip...

I had picked this hotel based on the fact that it had more of a resort feel than most Orlando hotels. I intended to spend quite some time in and around the hotel & wanted somewhere relaxing & with plenty of facilities. We were not disappointed..

The hotel & grounds are very large, with many facilities including Bike/jogging trails; horse riding; canoes & peddle boats; tennis courts; a Spa;a fitness centre & Huge pool area, around which they organise activities.... They even do a "Smores" cookout, Thursday thru Sunday, in the firepit by the pool/lake area, between 7pm & 9 pm..
There is a world class golf course as well, with two 18 hole & one 9 hole courses to choose from...I didn't get to try this, but my husband has made me promise to take him back there soon, so he can go Play!

The Pool area is just magnificent, if a little tricky to get around with a wheelchair... In fact that was the only problem that l encountered during my stay.. I mentioned my frustration to one of the staff, as we had been unable to find our way into the bar area to get a cool drink, after our swim... they were most appoligetic, & shortly after I arrived back at my room, a member of staff arrived with a cooler full of drinks, a fruit bowl & a written appoligy for our inconveinience ..

We tried several of the restaurants during our stay & l had room service on two occasions. The food quality was very good & the price quite reasonable for a 4 star hotel. They include a $3.00 charge with all "in room" orders which covers your tip.

Many services can be accessed through the TV in your room, including e-mails, computer Games & Movies. They charge a small additional fee for these services.

If you do not feel like eating in the hotel, just 5 mins walk from the gate of the resort is "crossroads" shopping area, with many places to eat.
You are also just a 5 mins drive from Downtown Disney & the many facilities available there.

The location of this hotel is second to none.... If you manage to drag yourself away from the many activities available in resort, then you are just 15mins either direction to Walt Disney World, or Universal/ Seaworld... Plus there are many shopping locations close by, for all those bargains..!

I have stayed many times in the Orlando area, but never in such a fantastic central location.. In fact I will never stay anywhere else again.
You will find it hard to beleive the peace & tranquility of the hotel & its grounds, & yet you can watch the fireworks at WDW, from the large viewing windows, on every floor in the hotel, and be in the hub of activity that is Orlando within just a few minutes of the resort gates.

Extra costs to be aware of :
As mentioned before, the $3.00 charge for all room service orders & the cost of "in room" tv services..

There is also a $15 per day resort charge per room, to cover Resort facilities, local telephone calls, etc.

You have the option when staying here to self park for free, or Valet park for a $20 charge per day including tax.

In my opinion it is worth the extra cost to Valet Park if you can afford it, as the "self" car park is quite a walk from the hotel. When you come back tired from the parks & ladden down with bags its nice to just drive up & leave the parking to someone else!

All in all.... If you only want a room to lay your head in each night & you are going to out all day in the theme parks, then this would be a waste of your hard earned money !.....

But if like me, you want a more luxury holiday choice & will spend time relaxing & enjoying the hotel & its facilities, then I cannot think of a more suitable place to spend your next Orlando vacation than the Grand Cypress... !

We spent 9 days at the Hyatt, 2 adults and 2 children under 12. We manged to book of under €150 per night. This is more than the average hotel, but this is not an average hotel.

The room was very good. Good beds, well cleaned everyday and adequate in size for our party.

Restaurants were also very good. We ate breakfast everyday at Cascades, we found the staff here to be extremely friendly and helpful and it helped that the food was excellent too-I would recommend the corned beef hash. We ate a couple of times at the White Horse Bar, which served very good food for both adults and children. We unfortunately ate only once at Hemmingways, but we had a very good dining experience here. We also had room service dinners a couple of times, perfect for a tired family and after being dragged around by the children all day at one of the parks. In all cases, I thought that the prices for meals were resonable.

The hotel's amenities are again, excellent. Fantastic pool (open 24hrs). Well equipped small fitness center (again open 24hrs), well marked jogging routes, horse back riding and more.

The staff are extremely helpful and service minded.

The hotel is well located to the Disney parks, Seaworld & Universal as well as the shopping outlets and certain malls.

All in all I would say that our stay was a excellent experience and worth the extra rates. if I return to Orlando I will most certainly stay at the Hyatt again.

“Sunday Brunch”

Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress

We are frequent travellers and spend a lot of time searching for good places to eat. We were staying at a 5 bed villa in Emerald Island resort in Kissimmee 15th - 29th sept 07. We normally go to the Renaissance resort near sea world for sunday brunch but found that they no longer operate the brunch. By sheer chance we found the sunday brunch at the Hyatt and what a find it was.
We booked the sunday brunch via phone from the UK and requested a round table for 9 as it was a ruby wedding we were celebrating (tables were square). Talk about service, hospitality and quality , this is the place to be. We thought that the Renaissance was good but this was sheer perfection. Our round table had been prepared with beautiful damask fabric on the chairs with green bows and looked spectacular. This is the only restaurant i have been to where you get black napkins if you are wearing dark clothing ( talk about attention to detail ). The smell of the chocolate desserts as you enter La Coquina is divine and they are a pleasure to behold.
The food was fabulous with everything from caviar to buffalo to chocolate fountains. Your main course is prepared fresh and you can have as many as you like.Your glass is never empty of their most excellent sparkling wines (without having to ask for refills) and the staff are unobtrusive but there for your every need.
The views from the light and airy room are specatcular and the pianist is a pleasure to listen to. All this for $59 dollars. After tax and gratuity with the exchange rate as good as it is we paid less than £40 per head. We were there for 3 hours from 11am and the whole party were just blown away by the experience. The "happy couple" were presented with a fabulous dessert plate with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate with the most fabulous Tiramasiu. Thankyou to our excellent waiting staff and well done the "Hyatt" for one of the most pleasurable experiences of our lives. Everyone in our party said it was the highlight of our holiday
