I've been wanting to stay at the Hyatt Grand Cypress ever since they built the property and finally had the chance to do so.
First, locating the entrance posed a challenge as I thought it was adjacent to the Disney Village area. However, it has it's own entrance on a side street off of Vineland. After finding the entrance, I learned that the property has security at the entrance and one must be a guest in order to receive a pass. The security guard has a list of guests to check your name.
The best thing of this hotel is its staff. Everyone from the doorman to the front desk, and housekeeping are very friendly, interested in you and seeing if you need assistance with anything.
I had booked a $199 summer special rate and asked for a room upgrade. For $175 more I was upgraded to a corner suite that had a view overlooking the pool and Disney fireworks. The room itself was very clean. Granted, the decor is quite outdated, and I've never been a fan of flowers on the wall. But the bed was the extremely comfortable bed Hyatt has now with nice threadcount sheets, feather comforter and feather pillows. BEWARE those allergic to feathers - make sure you've made the appropriate arrangements prior to your arrival.
The room was clean and saw no issues with housekeeping other than the fact that it is a huge property and it takes time for all of the rooms to be cleaned. Housekeeping was working when I checked in around 4:30pm on my floor.
In regards to the Parrots in the lobby. I'm a serious animal lover, but didn't feel too sorry for these guys. They are in a beautiful atrium, well cared for and seem to have adjusted well to their environment. Granted, it would be better that they were free, but they are pretty to look at.
I was traveling on the off season, so the property was quite empty with people. They closed La Coquina & The Chefs table for that evening and only Hemmingways was open for dinner. I decided to go to Disney Village for dinner. I was chauffered for $10 by a white town car, and made arrangements for a pick up for my return later in the evening.
For those interested, I have been at the Equestrian Center in previous years for riding lessons and the center is beautiful and the instruction was good enough that I would return for another lesson if I lived in the area.
One challenge I had was trying to find the business center so that I could check-in for my flight for the next day. After finding it ( I had passed it 3 times) I learned that there is a free computer & printer at the right of the check-in desk that you can use for checking in. I found it and the access to log on was very easy to use.
I would recommend the Hyatt for several reasons: 1.) Staff is very customer service oriented 2.) Location away from the buzz of the tourists areas 3.) Great place to hideaway and never leave due to the amenities and 4.) High quality bed & bedding.
Finally, this is a very family oriented property and saw many families with children. Not a place for singles hoping to find a good time.
