“Relaxing Day (Mostly)”

We spent the day at Epcot on a Saturday (8th July 06) and overall, the park was exactly what I had expected and indeed remembered it to be from 15 years ago with a few new additions.

The unmistakeable spaceship earth greeted us on arrival and we were soon past the security checks and ticket inspections etc.

I would like to say that the momorail service into epcot from the TTC is a great and quick way to get there - we used the monorail loads during our 2 weeks there as it is so quick and reliable.

The different counrties that make up the world showcase are very well designed and a great amount of time and attention to detail has gone into the exhibits. OK, so there isnt loads of rides at epcot but it made a nice change from the other parks.

By far my favourite ride is test track - i am not a big fan of rollercoasters etc but test track was awsome. We had a fastpass and from entering the building to getting to the "briefing" was about 5 minutes. You have to watch a video which kills a few minutes but then its into the cars and off for a great high speed ride which was awsome!!!

Soarin - GET A FASTPASS FOR THIS RIDE!!!!! If you believe the standby times (like we did) then you are in for a long, long wait. It said 30 minutes when we entered and it was 100 minutes - not impressed by this at all and yes, although the ride was new, it was not worth waiting and waisting nearly 2 hours for as it was over in about 3 minutes. My advice - queue for test track or mission space!!!

Spaceship earth is a slow, gentle ride through the advances in technology and its more of a ride to get out of the heat for 20 minutes. There was no queue when we went on - literally walked in and onto the ride.

If you want to meet the characters, epcot is a great place to do so. We went inside for a cool down and by chance, bumped into Pluto so we had to do the photo thing (see attached) and then went rounf the corner to find a load of others including Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy and Chip & Dale. There was no queue for this again and the very eficiently pass you onto each character and you have some great photo opportunities.

The fireworks display is very good - although not as long as i had remembered from previous visits. Nevertheless it was a great display and made for a great end to the day.

There are loads of snack trucks, cafe's and different eateries around the park and especially in the world showcase where each country has its own offerings.

It was very hot the day we went and I found Minute Maid frozen lemonade - wow it was good and just what was needed on the hot days through summer :-)

You can easily spend a whole day exploring here and its a great change of pace from some of the more crowded parks. Overall, an excellent day apart from the naff queing for soarin!!!

Would I go again . . . . . absolutely

It's been 17 yrs since we went to Epcot. I like the idea of the Leave A Legacy monuments where you can have your picture and names inscribed forever. But the choppy looking monuments are tossed all over in front of the Spaceball. Also , the beautiful blue fountain that used to greet visitors is gone . There are alot of canopies all over too. All of this takes away from the Spaceball in my opinion. Surprised that the films in France , Canada and China have not changed. The Beatles act is really good. Honey I Shrunk the audience has some cute effects but plods along at a boring pace. Also , those movies are pretty old now. Maybe it's time for something new? VERY disapointed that the Wonders of life is shut down. A cashier told us that MetLife pulled out as sponser and Disney only opens it for special holidays. Disney , where there is a gift shop at every turn and it costs hundreds of dollars to partake in their parks and they can't keep this opened. We saw the attraction being built and knew someday we'd be back to enjoy it and it ended up closed. Alot of full garbage cans and unkempt areas in future world which was a surprise. The World Showcase is the place to go to have fun. The street entertainment and shows are lively and very accessible. I agree with a previous posting / you really don't need the rides :) The lightshow is still a great sight. Also , no one seems to watch their kids and strollers and mechanical chairs are pretty reckless and dangerous/ so proceed with caution :)

We started our day in Epcot by trying out the rides. My husband and I prefer thrill rides, and found the rides boring (Test Track, Soarin', etc), with the exception of Mission Space. I couldn't even tell we were moving on Mission Space, although I did feel the G force. And yes, if you are claustrophobic, by all means skip it. If you get sick on rides like the Roundup (a carnival ride that spins around until the riders are stuck to the walls), then you will get sick on Mission Space.

We waited in line for half and hour to see Living with the Land (a boat ride). The first part is different scenes of earth--the desert, the jungle, etc. We didn't find this too interesting or educational. The second part is a tour of their hydroponic greenhouse that Disney is developing with NASA. The greenhouse was interesting, but unfortunately the information is very general and there is no Q & A. The ride was not worth the half hour wait in line. If you are interested in the greenhouse, they do give in-depth guided tours of it (independent of the ride) and that would be a much better option.

We had lunch at Seasons. YUM!!! We had rotisserie beef and chicken on flatbread, and it was the best. Seasons is in the same building as Soarin and Living with the Land.

Journey into the Imagination was terrible and just plain stupid. There was no line for it at all on a very crowded day--that should have been our first clue. It's not even worth the air conditioning.

Honey I Shrunk the Audience was a disappointment after seeing Mickey's Philharmagic at the Magic Kingdom and It's Tough to Be a Bug at the Animal Kingdom. If you haven't seen one of Disney's 3D movies yet, then you'll have a blast.

Well, the rides just weren't working out for us so we went to the other part of Epcot where the different countries are. We spent the rest of the afternoon shopping and eating, and had a great time. Save your money to buy perfume or cologne at Epcot--each country sells their native scents.
We bought perfume at Guerlain, ate Napoleons at the French Bakery, checked out all the cool toys in the Japanese store, and ate the best shaved ice ever in Japan. I think it's called Kaki-Gori, and it's a little cart right next to the big Japanese building. My husband talked to the other people standing in line, and it turned out most of them were regulars to this little shaved ice stand. After he had one, he kept going back for more.

We had dinner at Biergarten in Germany. The restaurant was beautiful, the beer was excellent, but the food wasn't outstanding. I was expecting schnitzel, saurkraut, and german potato salad. The schnitzel was made with chicken (and tasted like a McDonald's chicken tender), the sauerkraut buried under a pile of oily sausages, and the potato salad had mayonnaise in it. I think next time we'll try a different restaurant.

Would I take kids here? Yes--for the simple reason that kids have much better access to characters at Epcot. When we went to Magic Kingdom, there was a 45 minute wait to see Ariel. I didn't even buy my kids an character autograph book because I knew that we wouldn't have time for it. But at Epcot there are lots of characters and not too many kids. The line to see Princess Jasmine only had eight people in it. Goofy didn't have anyone visiting him (poor Goofy). Restaurant Akershus in Norway has character dinners with princesses, and we plan to do that when we return with our kids.

We left before seeing the fireworks. By then my husband had consumed three Japanese shaved ices and was considering going back for a fourth!

I'm rating Epcot as a 4 out of 5 because the rides weren't fun for us, but it could easily be a 5 out of 5 for someone who likes gentle rides.

This is a really great park. It gets your mind off of your worries and stress. If you have children, leave them home or with a babysitter.
Forget the rides, just walk. The gardens are so pretty, the employees are sweet and friendly. Wasting your time on waiting in line is just dumb.
The rides are OK but I dont undersstand why people would waste so much time when there is so much more beauty in the shops aand restaurants.
Guerllin iin France is amazing. The Japan store is INCREDIBLE.
The Kringla bakery in Norway is to die for.
San Angelo is the best Mexican food ever with a setting that is FUN and romantic.
All of this may seem pricey, but the memories are fantastic!!!!!
REMEMBER, dont waste your time on the rides!!!!

We visited Epcot and spent almost 2 days there, as part of our DisneyWorld vacation. Being a family with 2 younger kids, 3 and 6, we split our days into 3 segments, park opening to lunch, then back to the hotel for naps, then back to the park to stay till 9 or so. It worked really well, as we were all refreshed and ready to go after our naps.

Going to Epcot was an incredible experience and even with all the time that we did spend there, I wished I could have spent more.

FutureWorld has so many attractions, Mission Space, Test Track and Soarin' get all the attention, however there are plenty of other things to see and do. Mission Space was a super thrill, they have now introduced the gentler version, although I personally preferred the regular ride. If you are nervous about it, try the gentle version first and then if you like it, try the other ride! It's a blast.
Test Track is unpredictable, and was down for more than half the day. Our son was very disappointed, but fortunately, it was up and running by mid-day. Since most people thought it was still down, we were able to ride it twice within 30minutes! Another super thrill ride - must do in Epcot.
Soarin' was my favorite, a wonderful, gentle and amazing ride. Kids loved it. FP is a must for this ride, since lines can be long.
Another fun thing was Turtle talk with Crush, very cute and very funny. Must do if you have kids. We also did Circle of Life and Living with the land, both of which were fine, but not super exciting. We skipped Imagination area, as we ran out of time and the show is considered to intense for young kids. Epcot had the flower show going on, wonderful topiaries, the butterfly pavilion, all the amazing flowers...it was just breathtaking. The musical fountains are better than Bellagios! Spaceship Earth was a cool ride too.

World Showcase is a great place to walk around and take in all the beautiful buildings, little nooks and corners, the performers, the food! We saw the Chinese acrobats and the kids enjoyed it a great deal. There are KidCot FunStops in each country and little play ground areas scattered all over the World Showcase area, which the kids did not want to leave.

We ate counter service meals in China, Japan, England - decent food. Morrocco had the best food based on our tastes, and lots of it. Took the boat ride in Mexico, not very interesting, just OK. Illuminations was also fun, interesting and different, although I think Fantasmic at MGM and Wishes at MK are better. Seasons Cafe in the 'Land' was also good, lots of variety, fast and healthy.

Also ate table service meal at the Coral Reef. Good ambiance, decent food and service, way too expensive unless you are on the Dining Plan. Marrakesh in Morrocco was very good, interesting Belly dancer show included.

Loved Epcot, can't wait to go back with older kids.
