“Aim's to please, VERY close to Disney!!”

Silver Lake Resort

4 of 5 stars
Orlando
May 7, 2008

Silver Lake resort has a back entrance that exits on to Entry Point Rd that goes directly into Disney!! It is near the Animal Kingdom, and I would estimate you could be parked in the parking lot at Animal Kingdom in about 5 minutes (as long as the lines weren't long entering the lot). If you have ever been to the Disney area during a peak season this a HUGE deal, traffic can be terrible!!

The resort has older rooms they are in the process of renovating older rooms and also have newly completed buildings. The resort has many different floor plans, decor, and layouts. This resort also has GREAT beds! I have stayed in MANY hotels/resorts and these are the BEST beds I have slept in while traveling. I have a great bed at home so this was a wonderful surprise. The pillow top mattress, feather bed, and down comforter were fabulously comfortable and allowed me to rest well after a busy day at the parks! I have since found out that not all rooms have these beds, but they will. In comparison to other resorts in the area I also found these rooms 'brighter'. A lot of condos in Florida have thick dark curtains to help keep them cool, but in turn sacrafice the natural daylight (something which I prefer, I can turn the AC up if I need to cool the room down).

Also note that some buildings are 2 and 3 levels without elevators.

They have two pools, a wonderful game room with billiards, ping pong, air hockey, and more. The also have virtual golf and a movie theatre to fill time during the normal afternoon shower in Florida!

The resort does have a small general store, but doesn't have restaurant or shopping onsite. You would need a car to enjoy this area or you will be spending a lot on taxi's. The resort is small, intimate, wonderfully friendly staff, and fantastically close to Disney!

“Close to Disney World”

Silver Lake Resort

We booked our week using RCI Exchange. Check in was a breeze. We opted out of the sales tour and although they did call once about it during the week, there was no pressure to attend. This resort could not be closer to Disney without being on property. Out the back gate & down the road two minutes and you're at Animal Kingdom! Very easy. We could actually see the tower from Blizzard Beach and the top of Tower of Terror from out living room window.
We were in the 600 building which looked like it had been recently updated. Very clean, large two bedroom unit. One of the most comfortable beds I've ever found in a timeshare. I actually slept well. Our only complaints were the lack of sharp knives in the kitchen (only steak knives provided) and we could hear people outside. Might just be that the windows needed new weatherstripping. We didn't use the pools because we were too tired from being at WDW all day but they looked very inviting. Nice little 'grocery' on property and less than 10 minutes to a full service store (Publix).

“Never been happier with a stay. Already planning a return trip. A+”

I won't bother to add photos,as there are many others to see in previous reviews. I, like many others, was nervous about my upcoming stay at Silver Lake Resort. Wow, what a waste of energy. Our check-in was a breeze. Very helpful front desk. Put me in a "newer" building. All I had to do was ask. Ended up in the 1000 building/4th floor. I guess I would request a room facing the parking lot/pool. It looked like the other side of the building might face kind of a scruffy overgrown fenced-in area. BUT, that side might face the fireworks at the Disney resorts, which are visible from SLR.

The room was very clean and surprisingly spacious for a 1 bedroom. Comfortable sleeper sofa and a huge king in the bedroom was more than enough for my wife, 5yr old and me. 42" plasma is located in the living room. The pool is fantastic. My daughter is a real water rat. The main pool is kept at a perfect temp, and isn't over juiced with chemicals. The poolside tiki bar is a nice touch. Decent drinks and food. The gameroom was well equipped with modern video games, pool tables, and ping pong. There is also alot for kids in terms of crafts and activities.

Im not kidding when I say that the location of SLR is IDEAL. The Disney resorts are literally only a few minutes away. There are many, many stores and places to eat within 2 minutes. I took off the day we arrived and picked up everything we needed for the fridge. Publix market is just around the corner.

The "timeshare" presentation was actually very informative. We didn't buy. When the time came, I said "no-thanks" and that was that. They were nice and said that they closed 1 out of 3. Pretty amazing. I still cant figure out the math. Why the hell would somebody pay $35,000.00 and $65.00 a month in fees to stay ANYWHERE for 1 week a year? Beats me.

Overall an outstanding stay. I cant figure out where all the people with the scary reviews actually stayed. A+

“Don't stay here - the staff steals”

Do not stay here. Someone from the staff broke into our room and stold our credit card numbers. Three of mine and two of my sisters. There are other reviews that reflect the same thing. It is a terrible thing to have to correct. Their employees should be screened.

“Loved Silver lake Resort”

Booked Silver lake through RCI Points, stayed in a one bedroom apartment in 1000 block. Had pool to ourselves most of the time and the water was very warm. Very well appointed apartment, clean and a very comfortable bed.
There is a small snack bar at the main pool serving snacks and drinks but it is not open until 11am.
Location is ideal for Disney etc being just off the 192.
The only thing that we thought could be improved on would be an evening entertainment program to save a trip out at night.
There is no maid service for the duration of your stay, but we found this convenient.
We were invited to a timeshare tour which was declined, after which we were left alone, we did go down to key west for three days but there was no evidence of any hard selling going on.
We would go back without hesitation.
