My husband and I visited Key West in April 2008 and stayed at Ocean Breeze Inn for 2 nights. I had done a lot of research (yes, on Tripadvisor!) and finally chose this Inn, as a smaller, quiet place and reasonably priced. The booking was done with no problem on their web site and I received a confirmation e-mail promptly.
We arrived around 12:00 (check-in was 2:00) and asked a younger man at the office to leave our bags there while we walk around. He seemed a little confused (and quite busy, with phones constantly ringing) and was at first unsure if he could take the bags or not. Apparently, some other people had left their bags at the office as well. I found this a little odd, but he was still very polite. From other reviews, I was expecting DJ to be extremely helpful, but later on we found out the young man was not him.
At first, we were not sure where to stay in Key West, but the Ocean Breeze Inn turned out to be the best location possible! It is located on a fairly quiet street in a residential area of Key West. Just down the street are some beautiful private homes and you can get a feel for the real Key West. If you want "touristy" - the Inn is about 2 blocks from Duval Street. Ocean Breeze Inn is surprisingly quiet and away from all this hustle and bustle, but still a very short walking distance. And you do not need a car to get around! You can walk everywhere. The Inn is a motel type property, with a tiny pool (it is really tiny!) and an office in the middle and another small building at the back. It looks very clean and well kept, however, from the outside, I was a little unsure as to what to expect in terms of accommodation. We stayed in room 7, which is a Deluxe Pool Side room. When we opened the door to our room, what a pleasant surprise! The room was huge, it looked like a condo, with a full kitchen, and a huge area that is a closet / make-up area. The bathroom was quite small, but had a window, which I liked. There is also a dining room table and a living room area, with a walk-out to a fenced-in patio. This is one of the roomiest, brightest and most pleasant hotel rooms I've ever seen.
The day was very hot, but the room was comfortably cool, AC was working perfectly. The room felt like paradise, you close the door and you are away from everything. It was a super clean, comfortable and enjoyable room! Really, I can't say enough about how lovely it was. If you want peace and quiet after busy Duval Street, this will be your oasis.
What we really liked and appreciated was the breakfast that they offer. It is very basic (muffins, cereal, bananas, coffee, etc.) but this was exactly what me and my husband were craving for after days of eating eggs, bacon and sausages, etc while staying in Florida. There is not too much food, and it goes fast, I guess guests really appreciate it.
We finally met DJ on Monday when we were checking out, he had to deal with some pool problems, but I could tell it was him. When I asked if we could leave our bags after checking out, he promptly said "Absolutely, no problem". He seems like he genuinely cares about his property and his guests and it shows.
We really liked the Ocean Breeze Inn, it contributed greatly to making our stay in Key West memorable and enjoyable. Thank you DJ and keep up the good work!
