“Great little place”

We stayed here with another couple for 3 nights in March 2008, and also in Jan. 2007. All straights. The place has a great ambience, for us at least. There was always something going on at the bar, which is situated perfectly right on Duval. We enjoyed being on the quiet end of town. In 07 we brought a car - parking on side streets not too much of a hassle. Service/staff are tops, of course. Beach is a couple blocks down the street. A somewhat hidden treasure on that end of the island is the White Street pier - the city has made it a monument to AIDS victims. Only drawback is the price - if you are just looking for a place to crash this is not it. You need to spend some time there to take it in.

I didn't actually stay at the hotel but booked a bachelorette party for the drag show upstairs. We purchased the tickets and arrived well before the 10pm start time. When we arrived there we were told by the door staff that we were to behave because they have no problem kicking bachelorette parties out. We are a very good looking group of girls in our late 20's, and were dressed very respectful. At first I didn't think anything of it, until three days later when I saw my bank statement.

The hotel charged me and 8 others (that have been confirmed, I am still waiting to hear from 2 others) each 3 times, each for different totals. When we split the bill we gave the girl 10 cards to split the bill, which totaled $255.00. We had asked her to split it per person but were told there was no way and that one of us should foot the whole bill and get out money back from the other girls.

We ended up splitting it 10 ways, and each of us were brought a credit slip that was charged $27. (which totaled $20 more than the original bill). However when I checked my account today I was charged almost $300. And the other girls were also charged amounts totaling amounts similar.

When I called them they dismissed the information and asked why I was calling and didnt just get the information from the other girls who were already calling and bugging them.

Needless to say, I will not be returning. There are plenty of other drag shows in Key West to see

Myself and my partner (straight couple) have recently returned home from almost two weeks in South Florida. We found La Te Da on this site, liked the reviews and decided to book a standard room.

We arrived on the Sunday afternoon to be greeted by loud 80's music. Managed to find a parking space on the side street and checked in. We were greeted by friendly staff and were also upgraded to room 20. After dragging our cases thorough the middle of the tea dance party, which finishes at just gone 6pm, we found our room, large, comfortable, clean and airy. I had concerns that being so close to the cabaret and over the bar the room would be noisy. However, the cabaret finishes before 10.30pm and the bar entertainment is too far away to be much of a concern.

The breakfast was a bonus as we were expecting to pay. The drinks were a little pricey but they were also huge (if you’re from the UK you are used to tiny shots). We ate in the restaurant once and found it in line with the other restaurants in Key West. The ‘Broads of Broadway’ cabaret was very entertaining, although I do agree with other reviewers that the ‘minimum 2 drink’ requirement is a bit off putting. We were made aware of it beforehand and therefore didn’t drink too much with our meal.

All in all, a great hotel situated in the quiet end of Duval Street. Go and have a great time.

What luck to have found this little gem. Perfect location, on the quiet end of Duval Street, yet in the thick of galleries and great restaurants, walking distance to everything. The hotel grounds are lush, pool area is a courtyard with tropical plantings. Bar and dining rooms are open and terraced, over looking grounds and street. Nooks and crannies everywhere. Rooms are impeccable, decorated in great taste, crisp, clean and non-standard hotel faire. Linens and bedding luxurious.

The piano and terrace bars are inviting and comfortable. Soft music nightly for all tastes. Great atmosphere. Outstanding artworks.

Wonderful food, well prepared and dished. Elegant dining.

Crystal Room Cabaret is an intimate venue with great shows every night. After shows performers minlge with guests.

Having said all that, the biggest plus is the staff, warm, friendly and inviting. Coming down to breakfast and being warmly greeted by your first name is refreshing and disarming. You feel they are genuinely happy to see you.

A special thanks to sweet Jason G [I miss him], Mark D/B/A Aloysius our bartender and Christian with the smoldering eyes. Also owner Mark, who spent an afternoon intriguing me with his stories.

It was my first visit to Key West and it was perfection.

I will be returning.

We are a straight couple and flew into Miami and drove to key west and didn't realize their was not any parking at the hotel but were able to find a spot within a block or two. I was greated by name upon checkin only to find out i was the only female checking in that day, which had me concerned. I need not have been their were all types of couples staying at the hotel , both straight and gay and the other patrons as well as staff were friendly and respectful.

The room was clean and very nice. The free breakfast was a terrific perk and was always very good and the wait staff was wonderful...however we did have a not so memorable dinner and rude waitress one night.

We chose not so see the show due mostely to other reviews.

I would definately stay here again, but I here the hotel can get a little wild during certain times of the year and certain celebrations.
