“Loved it......”

Hyatt Windward Pointe

Aug 17, 2007

Our daughter moved to Key West last year, so this was our first visit to the area. We were looking for a place to stay for 2 couples. After much research, we made our reservations here. Price wise, it was a little more than getting two rooms at the hotel we were considering and looked to have many more perks than a regular hotel room.

When we arrived, the check-in was quick and smooth. The condo was beautiful and just as nice as we had hoped. It was clean and nicely decorated. The kitchen was lovely. Master bath was huge. Loved the balcony and the view (which was very similar to the traveler's photos posted here for this place..... I swear, those folks must've been right next door!). I was a little concerned about the airport being next door, but it turned out to be not a problem at all. The only time we heard the planes was when we were sitting on the balcony, and then it was a quick takeoff and they were gone. When we were inside the condo, we didn't hear them at all. It's a very small airport with not alot of air traffic.

There were a couple small issues......
We knew that there would be a charge for internet access, so that wasn't a surprise. (It seems to me that, more often than not, internet isn't free anymore.... And the more expensive the property, the more likely the charge.) It took several calls to get the internet access working for us. It would work for a minute and then shut down. It would be nice to just have it work without having to call the help desk, leave a message, and then wait for them to call you back. We waited.... finally called them back..... they said they hadn't gotten the message. The same thing happened the second day, but at least they did call us back right away. All in all, it wasn't a huge thing..... just annoying.

Another thing was that the bed in the master bedroom was a bit soft and probably could stand to be replaced. It also seemed low to the ground (and I'm only 5'3"). It didn't keep me from getting a good nights sleep. I'd rather have a mattress that's too soft as opposed to a very firm one, so it wasn't an issue for me, but might be for someone else. I didn't ask the other couple if their bed was alright and they didn't mention it, so I can't comment on that.

We had a rental car, so we drove everywhere and parked in the city garage when we wanted to head to town. When we were checking out and sitting on a bench at the front entrance, a van pulled up and asked if we were waiting for the shuttle going to town. We didn't know there was a shuttle to town!!!!! Again, not a big deal.... we probably would've driven anyway.... but it would've been nice if the staff had shared that information with us at check-in so we were aware of the option.

When all is said and done, these were minor things. I would definitely stay there again. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Hyatt Windward Pointe to others.

“Nice Runway”

Nice accomodations if you don't mind an active airport runway in the rear of the hotel, which is quite audible. Staff was for the birds, unfriendly, unattentive, would not release the key until 3:50 pm, stating "room wasn't ready yet", which was untrue. Got good rate due to Hyatt Vacation Club sales pitch; suffered through that for 2 hours. Rooms were spacious and well decorated. Located at the extreme end of the island which makes it difficult to access all the attractions--be prepared to pay for parking everywhere. No exercise facility at this hotel. No beach either, photos of it are very deceiving. Looks like you can walk right across the street but that's NOT the case. Key West is not for families with children, either.

“Perfect Place for the Perfect Honeymoon”

Hyatt Windward Pointe

Pro:
-For those seeking sanctity from the drunken madness of Duval St. and teenagers on Scooters, this is your place.
- Fantastic concierge; not too aggressive on timeshare sales. The recommendations for dinning were on the money. Be sure to see Marius if you stay here.
- Includes every possible amenity needed and beyond; well organized.
- Gorgeous rooms - very spacious.
- Each unit has a view of the ocean (Hyatt is on Atlantic side), they provide a telescope at no charge; fantastic touch of class and creativity.
- For timeshare exchanges, this is worth it!
Con:
- Elevator service was "down for maintenance" during our stay - made it tough to bring up luggage; stairs are not that bad for younger crowd, though they do get slippery after rain... watch out.
- Cleaning service does not carry an updated list of guests and check-out dates. If staying for a week beware, they may mistakenly knock on your door early in the morning (9:00 a.m. is early for me ;-) ) on the wrong check-out date... didn't stop knocking until I woke up and answered the door. The cleaning service member was on her cell phone too and quite rude. I assume this service is contracted out and did not take it personally as a lack of quality from the Hyatt themselves. This was the worst part of our stay... obviously not that bad of a complaint regarding severity.
- No shuttle service - if you do stay here and wish to park near Duvall, do so at your own risk. Most street spots are residential only; goto Old Town Parking Garage on Grinelle and Caroline ($13.00 all day; not too bad). I would rather have the peace and quiet than a close walk to Duvall. Don’t get me wrong, Duvall is a blast, but that’s not why we chose Key West for our honeymoon – we chose it because of its natural beauty and easy going lifestyle of those that live on the island. Perfect!

I really have no negative things to say about this place. It is perfect for honeymooners and those looking to take in the beauty of Key West minus the frat party on the west side of the island. This coming from a newly married 24 year old as well.

Give this place a shot if you can exchange through interval international (time shares). It will definitely not disappoint - fantastic experience!

    • Liked — The telescope was a nice touch - I spent hours watching the stars at night as well as the boats during the day.
    • Disliked — Internet was $10.00 per 24 hours. However, when you're on vacation you should disconnect completely. The cost was a good deterant for me to seperate from the real world and enjoy. Although a lot of people whined about this in other reviews, my opinion is... leave business and e-mail on the mainland; live the island life - ditch the laptop.

“Wireless through the nose”

Hyatt Windward Pointe

Undeniably a very decent resort BUT BE WARNED..
If you go on their site you are informed that they provide Wireless Internet access throughout various places in the facility. You will NOT find anyplace (as of today) on the site that bothers to mention they charge @10.00 per day PER device.

That is to say that if you and your spouse both happen to have brought your laptops to pop on check email touch base with work, etc then believe me this adds up quickly.

When we asked the Concierge about why it wasn't posted on the website we were told "I'm sorry but it isn't required to be. We post it in the appropriate areas of our facility, and that is sufficient."

WHAT a load of crap. To think I was foolish enough to BUY a platinum week unit in this place. Wish I NEVER stopped to talk to the girls in the booth downtown.

“Everything was wonderful!!”

Hyatt Windward Pointe

We stayed at the Hyatt Windward Pointe June 26-July 1 and everything was wonderful. Our room was great and the staff was very friendly. The road construction is finished in front of the hotel. It is a good
way from Old Town, but we liked it being quiet. We could drive to the
places we wanted to go. We can't wait to go back. My kids want to move to Key West after this trip. It is very tempting.
