The room was beautiful, the flowers in the reception were beautiful, the whole Inn was done with great taste and style. We enjoyed staying at the Almond Tree very much. The room had 2 double beds and a sofa bed (which was very comfortable): we all slept well. There was a lovely terrace area on the 2nd floor (1st floor to us Brits) just outside our room, which we enjoyed using very much. The pool was fairly small but, being an interesting L-shape and surrounded by a nice garden and all the sun loungers and the tables and chairs, felt larger than it actually was. There was pizza, together with chips/
crisps and dips at happy hour, as well as cold drinks, beer and wine, which was all very welcome. In fact we didn’t have an evening meal out at all in Key West – we enjoyed Happy Hour and then ate food from Sunny’s deli and sandwich shop (which was just across the road) on “our” terrace area later on in the evening.
The only negative things were the fact that there was a party of “Spring Breakers” at the Inn – all perfectly polite and reasonable but any big group can be a little off-putting. Also the noise from what I think was the pool house was initially disturbing on the upstairs terrace (not at all from the room though). The road noise (we were right on Truman Avenue) felt distant and was not a problem. On the afternoon we arrived we were impressed to see a three-foot lizard run across the road.
Breakfast was OK, although we were surprised that we ate from throw-
away plates (is this because of a lack of water in the keys?). The location was good, and although not right amongst the old town house area, and walking to the harbour or the pirate museum was only 15 minutes. £172 a night. Our hire-car stayed in the good hotel car park the whole time we were there.
It was a lovely hotel and the managers and all the staff were friendly and great.
