If you're looking for a tranquil, relaxing place that's near Duval St and the Bight, the Island City House is great. This was a beautiful bed & breakfast style property.

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights in the Cigar House. We had a 3rd floor room with hardwood floors throughout and a private balcony facing the pool. It had a nice bedroom w/ a queen size bed, small dresser and flat panel tv. The living room/kitchenette had a sofa bed, reading chair, full size fridge/stove, and another flat panel tv. This room also had newer cabinets and granite countertops. Very cozy and comfortable.

The grounds were very lush and well kept. They offer a free continental breakfast in the courtyard each morning (bagels, muffins, fruit, yogurt, coffee, etc) which was fine. The pool was small and clean. Perfect for lounging around with a good book and then taking a brief dip when the sun overheats.

The front desk staff was EXTREMELY helpful and accomodating. They had a pre-printed sheet of restaurant and bar information with some great suggestions. We weren't disappointed with any of our choices.

The property was about 3 blocks from Duval and 2 blocks from the Bight. When we turned off Duval to head back each night, it was like we were walking through a quiet residential neighborhood.

Parking was very scarce (even for unloading the car to check in/out). You don't need a car on the island at all, in my opinion, so if you drive down from Miami or elsewhere, definitely get a one-way rental each way and save the money for nightlife on Duval St.

“Beautiful retreat”

Island City House Hotel

We stayed for 4 nights in the Arch House and found it an excellent relaxing place. The room was spacious, with a kitchenette, HD TV, balcony overlooking the palm trees, sofa and a comfortable bed. The breakfast was pleasant enough (croissants, fruit etc) in the nice courtyard. The pool was smallish but nice and quiet. The area is great - quiet tree-lined streets, good neighbourhood bars and restauants and amazing old buildings. TIP: There is a multi-story car park only a couple of blocks away on Grinnell St. It's only $13 per 24-hours, which is a bargain for those of used to European parking prices!

“Loved the carriage house!”

Island City House Hotel

The Island City House Hotel may be the oldest operating guesthouse on Key West, but it is spotless and modern! We were very pleased with our accommodations in the carriage house. The two-bedroom suite gave us the authentic Key West experience we were looking for. It felt like our own place! We had no interest in staying in a chain hotel, so this place was ideal. Breakfast in the lush courtyard was nice. Renting bikes was easy. The location was perfect. Sitting on the front porch watching the world go by was great. There was a little bit of traffic noise on Eaton St late night/early morning, but we really didn't notice it much after the first day. We noticed the lack of soundproofing inside the house, but we quickly acclimated to that too. For us, those were easy trade-offs! It turned out to be a blessing in disguise to not be able to connect to the wireless internet... but when we did need to tend to a little business, it was not far to the internet cafe at Eaton & Duval.

We are really glad that we found ICH via TripAdvisor. Walking around the island looking at the other places validated our choice (and the reviews posted here). Thanks for the wonderful stay!

“Nice Place, but Too Congested for Us”

Island City House Hotel

We stayed two nights here last Dec. It was fairly quiet, although our room in the Arch House was on the street side of the building. There are several good places to eat within walking distance, and we never actually used the car at all. Which is good, because parking was very difficult to find. The breakfast was average, but the outdoor seating area was quite attractive. The room itself was true to the web site description.

While we had no problems during our stay, we would not stay here again just because of the location. We would prefer a less congested area of town.

“Great stay...”

Great find!

The rooms are historic, but still quite modern. The ONLY exception is the terrible cable TV service. They had two modern flat screen TVs in my room, but the cable picture was all snowy. This hotel should switch to satellite or get a repairman out there. It's terrible.

The included breakfast was fantastic. Served in the courtyard.

The pool was refreshing.

The location is perfect -- in a quiet area away from the drunks and tee-shirt shops.

I would stay there again, but to be honest Key West was pretty trashy and run-down. There are some very very nice areas, but the place is also full of tacky stuff.
