Travelers beware of units in the "G" building at this "resort." We were given unit G22 and immediately upon opening the door were horrified. The carpet was filty and ripped. The walls were dirty as was the sleeper couch. The room smelled of a wet dog, and was just plain offensive. The toilet seat was worn out and chipped. There were kitchen utensils in a chinese take out plastic jug. It was worse than a college dorm room.
We reported our displeasure right away to the front desk who told us there were no rooms to change to. We asked to speak to management, who said the same, but did start looking more in depth. We were told we would lose our money due to cancellation if we moved to another unit and if we left we would lose 40% of what we paid.
This was unacceptable. We asked to speak to upper management, who worked with us. We were shown three other properties that were owned by the same timeshare owner, 2 of which were equally as dirty, not to mention no elevator to a third floor unit in 95 degrees!
Finally we were shown a penthouse unit in Building F. Unfortunately we were only offered a 20% discount (which would have been offered to anyone walking in off the street without a reservation) and we had to pay the difference, which doubled the cost of our stay. There was absolutely no compensation offered whatsoever.
Although the Hotel Manager was helpful, it is an outrage that they even rent these units and expect people to stay there.
This resort is even part of RCI and is rated high, unfortunately this building "G" is not a part of the RCI properties, this however was not made known when we made our reservation months earlier.
If we ever return, to Key West, we would certainly not stay at the Galleon again, and we would not recommend the Galleon to anyone we know.
We could have, and should have stayed at the Westin or the Hyatt for approximately the same amount of money, and no worry.

I have to say that after reading other reviews and seeing the pics that people posted on this site bugs me...because people focus on the little things instead of the overall BEAUTIFUL picture. This resort is GORGEOUS and in a perfect location!! We stayed in unit G22 - on Front Street. And could walk anywere we wanted to go. We could not have asked for a better vacation. Take a look at some of the great pics we took while there.

We can't wait to go back. We stayed at one of the quieter studios at the Galleon, and it was very nice. Quiet, affordable (for Key West) and the location was perfect. Close enough to walk to Duval Street, Mallory Square, and great shopping. Family friendly!

Our family had the opportunity to stay at the Galleon Resort And Marina the week before Christmas 2006. We had planned to stay at another property in Key West but after visiting friends staying at the Marina decided to check out the Galleon and we are very glad we did. We stayed in a one bedroom condo. Huge full kitchen very clean plenty of room. Great views. I just cannot say enough good things about our stay here. In reading some of the other reviews I noted that some were disappointed with the beach area. If you are looking for a beach you probably arent going to find it in Key West anyway but the beach area at the Galleon is nice for Key West standards. The Galleon's location would make it very easy to not have a car during your stay. Just walking along the Marina areas and exploring would be enough for any trip to Key West. We go to the Keys 2-3 times a year this was one of my best trips to date. We will definately be back.
