I was at the Eden House from March 21-24 and greatly enjoyed my stay.
The location was great. A quiet part of town, but only a 10-minute walk from the heart of Duvall and 5 minutes from the harbor walk.
Rent a bike, I did, and you can cut those times by over half.
While my room was small -- it was one where you had a television, microwave, refrig and own bathroom -- it fit my needs just fine, because other than to sleep, change clothes and shower, I was hardly there during my stay.
I also have to commend them for the room TVs. A nice wide screen -- probably a 36-incher -- which was great for the brief time I did sit down to watch the NCAA Tournament.
The front desk service was great. They were courteous and any questions I had were quickly answered and the few problems I ran into were quickly resolved.
The highlight of my trip was when I asked the girls at the desk soon after my arrival if I could test ride a bike before renting one, considering it had been 25-plus years since I had ridden with any consistency.
They had no problem with that -- and renting a bike was the best decision I made the entire trip. A bike is definitely the best way to get around the island. (I'm actually thinking of buying one for my own use at home, I enjoyed it so much. Imagine, exercise being fun).
I also liked the at your own risk policy regarding the pool and jacuzzi. After getting back from Duvall Street at 2 a.m., it was nice to sit in the jacuzzi (although the temperature seemed to have been turned down from what it was during the day) for a little a while -- and having 1-2 more cold ones -- before hitting the sack.
The only major issues I had were:
1, The pool: It was not heated and with temperatures in the 70s and gusty winds while I was there, the water was just too cold.
2, The Wi-Fi.: It did not work well. You could be sitting right next to the router and you would lose your connection. For many people, the internet is a vital part of their life - I was even using it during my stay to find place to eat/visit while I was in Key West -- and to have a poor internet hookup -- when it's supposed to be high speed -- can be a real pain.
3, One of the mornings my shower was too hot/scalding, something you can rarely complain about while staying in a hotel. But I talked to the front desk and the problem was quickly resolved.
Final verdict: Eden House is a great place to stay and I could easily see myself going back.. But if you're a person who is looking to party hard (i.e., spring breakers, which are not allowed there), this is not the place for you. Even me, at the age of 43, felt a bit out of place because it seemed many of the guests never left the grounds and were the go to bed at 10 p.m and get up at 8 a.m. types rather than the get up at noon and go to bed at 4 a.m. type which I tend to be. (I work nights in my professional life), But no one complained about my nocturnal lifestyle, and staying there did keep me away from the spring breakers, which is the primary reason I'll probably be back.
