After reading the reviews on this resort I thought it would be excellent, however what we ended up with was an old room with some problems, rude staff and not very good facilities.
We went to this resort on a timeshare exchange and at first glance the room we were given seemed very nice, a two storey, two bedroom, two bathroom apartment. It is quite an old resort and is getting a bit tatty but seemed ok. We noticed on the first day that the kitchen sink leaked and reported this to reception. They said they would send someone up to fix it. The next day, nobody came, and on closer inspection, it appeared the sink had been leaking for some time as the bottom of the unit had started to go mouldy and the water had made the wood in the bottom of the unit sink. We reported it again, to a very rude girl on reception who would not get of the telephone and was very abrupt. Still nothing was done.
The people in the room next door were too lazy to take their rubbish to the dumpsters (there are no chutes) and had therefore dumped their rubbish on the landing outside out apartment door. We reported this after the first day of it sitting in the heat outside our door to the same rude girl who would not get off the phone again and again nothing was done about this. The leak in the room meanwhile had got so bad water was gushing out over the dining area carpet everytime you emptied the sink or ran the tap. We reported it again and the same very rude girl, who was again chatting on the phone yet again did nothing. The rubbish was outside our door for three days before anyone bothered to move it and more bags had been added and the sink was never mended. Because of the damp, we came back one night to find a huge cockroach running around the kitchen area. The apartment also had lots of very large ants running round the kitchen. We didn't bother complaining about this, what was the point!!
Also, the swimming pool which we visited on the first day we were there had a terrible smell near it the day I visited and also smelled of diesel fumes. I did not go to the pool again, however other members of my family visited the pool and two of the six days we were there, one of the pools was closed and the other pool had hardly any seating around it so they were unable to use it.
There is a drinks bar with a pool table and a view over the small marina and it sells hotdogs which is quite nice.
On a positive note we were aware when we went that this resort is the other end of the island to Duval Street and you would need a car or to take taxis to get to it, and that it had no beach but not many of the resorts in Key West do have beaches. It is a very peaceful resort, and if you got a room where everything was working it would be fine if you wanted a bit of peace and quiet. Key West is a great island to visit and I would go again, just not to the Coconut Mallory!!
