Just got back from 3 nights at the DoubleTree in Key West (May 21-24) Although there was a slight problem with the room when we checked in (they just sealed the tub and could not get rid of the Acetone smell), we were moved to another room after a short wait, given some drink coupons and everything worked out just fine. Pool is very nice and the shuttle bus is very efficient too. My wife got a massage and said it was very good, except she was expecting a nicer "spa". If you get your massage inside, they basically give the massage in a large closet. It was too hot outside for the massage. If they are going to call it a spa then they should put a few bucks into it and truely make it a spa experience.

“Very nice resort.....”

Doubletree Grand Key Resort

We had just come off of a 7-day Caribbean cruise and could not get a room at our usual B&B, so we took a chance on the Doubletree. Although we usually like to stay in Old Town, this was the only resort available with rates that were reasonable (at least for Key West!).

Upon arrival, the front porch that runs the length of the lobby was a very nice welcoming, lined with rocking chairs and lush foilage. Check in was a breeze, and up we went to our room, which was a King. The room was very nice, done up in a "Key West" color scheme (yellows, blues, and white), and the bathroom was a very nice size. There was also a small couch and table for relaxing, and our room overlooked some of the new condos on the Atlantic side.

The pool was located outside of the lobby, down a wide flight of stairs. It was very large, very nice, and there were plenty of lounge chairs available for the guests. There were also some cabanas at the far end of the pool for those who like a little break from the sun. At the top of the stairs is a very nice and well-stocked pool bar, and there are waiters and waitresses walking around should you need a drink while you are at the pool.

The Doubletree also offers shuttle service to town, as parking there is at a premium, and if you do happen to find a lot with an empty spot, they charge you out of the ying yang to park there. One bad thing about the shuttles is that everyone is waiting around for it, and despite who was there first, people push and shove their way on board. The good thing is that they have a back-up shuttle if there are far too many people. They will drop you at Smather's Beach or at the Conch Republic (near Mallory Square), but the other down-side is that the last shuttle runs around 11:00 p.m., so if you want to stay in town longer, you will need to take a cab back. The shuttle is free, except for the driver's tip.

We did not eat lunch or dinner there, but we did eat breakfast out on the veranda that overlooks the pool, and the food was quite good, with excellent service and moderate prices.

All in all, the Doubletree is a very nice, modestly priced resort. We would definitely stay there again if we were not able to get a room at our favorite B&B.

“Awesome Resort !!!!!”

Doubletree Grand Key Resort

This resort is the perfect place to stay in Key West! The staff is wonderful, especially Mike the Pool Guy! Everyone is so friendly and always willing to help, that it made my stay so enjoyable. My friend and I ate in the restaurant alot and the food was very good. Our room had 2 queen beds and was adequate in size for 2 women with large suitcases! hahaha!! I have no idea why this resort is not ranked higher, because I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Key West. They offer a shuttle service into town and to their private beach, every hour on the hour till 11pm, which is awesome! It is away from the hustle and bustle of Duvall street, and so quiet! Plus, they even pick you up at the airport.....what more could you want? Oh yeah, the pool bar and bartender (Billy) is very very nice!! I will definitely stay here again!

“Nice Stay!”

Doubletree Grand Key Resort

5 of 5 stars
Lebanon, PA
May 21, 2008

Had a wonderful visit to Key West and the stay at the Doubletree was excellent. The staff was friendly -- especially the man at the pool. The rooms were clean and comfortable however a bit small unless you are able to get them to move you to a room with a balcony. Also, be sure to ask for breakfast coupons at the front desk. We found the pool to be relaxing and clean. We used the shuttle service to head downtown in the evening. This is a popular service, so be sure to go to the lobby a few minutes early. The beach that the shuttle services visits is not worth your time. Enjoy the pool or other public beach instead. Overall, a nice and relaxing time. Plus, tasty cookies.

“Comfortable hotel”

Doubletree Grand Key Resort

3 of 5 stars
Pittsburgh

Every hotel and motel in Key West is called a resort, so don't let the name fool you.

The staff at this hotel is very very friendly. The check in area plays all the island music you came to hear. It's a great feeling when you get to Key West and check in.

This hotel does have an eating area, which is expensive and the food is OK when compared to other eating places in Key West. If you are used to eating at McDonalds every night then you will think it is the best. If you eat at fine restaurants it's just another generic hotel restaurant. Filets are $34.00 and are sub-par to Outback Steak house if that gives you an indication. Staff was great though. They add the 15% tip in automatically.

There is a pool side bar, and the pool is small, but nice. There is also a hot tub. You could stay at the pool all day as it's an area meant to hang out at and drink until you drag yourself upstairs.

The shuttle is the best thing. Runs every hour to Duval street. It was one of the best perks because parking on or near Duval street is a pain.

This hotel is off the beaten path and away from the noise of Duval street. If you are 21 and want to be in the heart of the action 24/7 then it isn't the place for you. If you have kids, which I am not sure why you would bring kids to Key West (saw a few people with kids and they were hating life) or if you just don't want to deal with people, then the Doubetree is for you.

This is one of the nicer/more commercial hotels on Key West.
