“Great Staff!”

Doubletree Grand Key Resort

We booked several months ago and stayed April24th-28th. The staff was amazing. Very quick check in, great room, great service. The shuttles were awesome. Always on time at each location. I was amazed at their efficiency. The shuttles have 3 stops, the beach, one end of duval and the other end of duval. If you study the maps at the concierge desk its really easy to navigate. The concierge will point out lots of good places to eat and shop. There were a couple of times that we needed to go places that the shuttle didnt stop. The hotel was quick to use one of the vans to take us. Service was amazing!

Rooms were clean and we always had PLENTY of towels. there is a restaurant on site as well as a bar beside the pool that is great. There were several weddings while we were there. Very pretty reception areas. Staff made sure the actual reception had privacy. Perfect place to stay in Key west

Tip: Be on time for the shuttle. They dont wait. But the payoff is they are always on time to pick you up!

“Enjoyable Stay”

Doubletree Grand Key Resort

4 of 5 stars
Beacon Falls, CT
Apr 22, 2008

I stayed at the Double Tree Grand Key resort for 4 days earlier this month. I found my stay there to be very enjoyable. Check-in was a bit slow, but that's because the printer at the front desk had jammed. Having been the perpetrator of many legendary paper jams at work, I can understand how technology can sometime conspire against us.

The room was mostly clean, but there were small details that, while not necessarily annoying, were noticeable. For example, the minifridge door didn't quite close properly. It was also placed in a strange location - against the wall near the bed. The rooms are on the small side, and if you had the TV armoire doors open, you had to crawl over teh bed to get from one side to another. Again, not a huge deal, because I spent so little time in my room.

The pool area is gorgeous. I found the pool deck area to be carefully maintained by attentive staff. There were always pool towels available, and the overall setting was nice. The staff at the pool bar were very friendly and attentive.

I had the breakfast buffet one morning. The selection was pretty narrow, but what was available was very good. The waffles were fantastic.

The hotel is removed from the action on Duval Street. The shuttle program is fantastic, it runs hourly up until 11 pm, and when a shuttle is full, there is always another one behind it. The drivers are friendly, and yes, there is always some drunken knucklehead on the late night ride back. Not that I was one of them one night. *cough*.

They say they charge $10 per night for parking, but I was not charged.

When I return to Key West, I would probably stay somewhere closer to the downtown area, but I can't say I have anything bad to say about the Doubletree Grand Key.

    • Liked — Beautiful pool area, clean
    • Disliked — Too far from "the action". It would be perfect if it were closer.

“What a cool place”

Doubletree Grand Key Resort

Date May 18 thru 21
What a nice place to stay. I had never been to Key West and had heard that if you didnt stay down town it would not be any fun.Let me tell you from my experience that Duval st. is fun but after awhile you need to escape to recharge. The doubletree grand is the perfect place to do just that. They have the finest shuttle service I have ever used at a hotel. The drivers are helpful and funny and the short ride is like taking a guided tour of Key West.

The hotel is like staying in paradise. Its clean and friendly and well managed. The pool area and tiki bar are so relaxing, and the drink selection was outstanding and resonably priced.I would recomend this hotel to any one who likes to party, but also some times wants to just get away and relax, you can do both staying here.

If you are going fishing I would recomend you call Mr.Z . His boat is located at the pier where the first shuttle stop is.The captain and mate have been together longer than any other two fishermen in Key West and take a lot of pride in that fact.Just watching how well they work as a team is amazing.

“OK resort, decent choice if the price is right, but not great”

Doubletree Grand Key Resort

Stayed 4 nights at this resort recently on vacation. Used points, so, I don't know the rate. It had some good bits and bad bits, as follows...

GOOD:
--Had a King bed suite, which was spacious and a pretty nice room overall. Has a living room/dining room and kitchenette, fridge, 2 TVs, bath with jetted tub, and a small deck overlooking the pool area.
--Pool area is very nice - one of the better ones I've been to. Not very big, but well kept and excellent in every other way
--Front desk personnel and concierge staff were friendly and very helpful
--Front desk has reasonable deals with local day trip folks for snorkelling, biking, other activities that are a lot of fun.
--Wait staff at the restaurant (and around the pool) were all good.

BAD:
--They actually charge $10 a day for parking!!! This is not Manhattan or some other congested urban area, they have a ton of real estate - this is insultingly bad policy.
--Location is not great - its on the opposite end of the island from Duval, downtown and most of the sights. There is an hourly shuttle though.
--Housekeeping staff were pretty bad. Took them a long time to get the room done, they twice left cleaning supplies behind and didn't actually finish cleaning the room, and they were seen regularly just hanging out in the hallways gabbing.
--The restaurant is mediocre at best, but priced high (as is everything on Key West it seems). Breakfast is a bit weak, and the upgrade from continental to full gives you just two things - powdered eggs and bacon.
--The resort does not have its own beach, it shares one with other resorts - but the concierge said that because of its location, its constantly overrun with seaweed and not a great beach. If you go to the state park public beach, be aware you'll pay $30 plus a deposit just to use an umbrella and two chairs.

Overall, I can't really recommend it, unless they are running a cheap deal. And looking at their website right now as a sample, it looks like its normally pretty pricey.

“A relaxing stay in Key West”

Doubletree Grand Key Resort

4 of 5 stars
Western Connecticut
Apr 21, 2008

We enjoyed our stay at the Doubletree. The room was clean, front desk service was good.

Because of our Hilton Honors points we were upgraded to a room with a giant balcony overlooking the pool area. We loved sitting out on the balcony people watching and enjoying the music.

Our room had a fridge which was stocked full of drinks. We removed them (we didn't want to pay for them, but there was no pricelist telling how much they were) and put our own food and drinks in it.

The pool was terrific and the poolside service was pretty good. One day they even had live music by the pool. The fitness room was also big and up-to-date. Wireless service from our room was trouble-free.

Although the hotel had a shuttle into downtown Key West, we drove our rental car instead. On the downside we had to pay $10/day to park at the hotel. The hotel is not close to downtown and a couple of miles from Smathers Beach, so it's not terribly convenient if you don't have a car.

The breakfast buffet was good and ours was complimentary because of our Hilton Honors points. To upgrade to the buffet breakfast buffet it was $4 for adults and kids were free which I thought was reasonable.

Service in the restaurant was hit or miss. And it took forever for our room to be cleaned. The maids did not speak English.

Overall, I liked this hotel and would definitely stay here again.
