My wife and I have just returned from spending two weeks at the Bnyan Resort and i have nothing but the best to report about our experence.

When we first arrived a gentelman by the name of Richard Tidd was at the desk and greeted us and answered all of our questions. He gave us our keys and showed us just how to get to our room.

Our apartment was number 508 and it was beautiful. It had three french doors that opened to a porch where my wife and I could sit and look over the pool and Tiki bar area. We had a nice kitchen and dinning area and the living room was good size. The bedroom was a loft with a circle staircase leading up to it. The bed was big and and I had no trouble slepping on it.

The apartment was very clean. We had none of the problems that some of the other reviewer have talked about..

One day my wife was doing the wash and the dryer was not working as it should and the head of maintenance, a man by the name of Keven, told my wife to just give him the wash and they would dry it in the housekeeping dryers. When the clothes were done housekeeping brought them up to our apt. all folded. You can't ask for anything beter than that.

Everyday my wife would lay by the pool. They have two pools at the Banyan, one is for aults and children and the other is just for adults. We did not have any children with us but my wife would spend time at that pool. Most times no children were ther but when they were all the children were very well behaved.

The Tiki Bar is open everyday from 8AM until 4PM. A gentleman by the name of David runs it. He makes a terrific breakfast. The lunches are just as good. The beer and drinks are always strong and cold. You get so relaxed you just don't want to go outside the Banyan property.

At night my wife and I would want to go out to eat. David at the bar was always will to give us a review of the different resturants in town and stear us to the best one for what we wanted to eat that night. He was always happy to call for our reservation at the time we wanted. The nice part of that was that David new the best tables and would ask that we be seated at that table.

In the 14 days we spent at the Banyan Resort everyone was as nice as they could be to my wife and I.

I know that we will go back again and again. If anyone is looking for a nice place to stay in the hart of Old town Key West you won't find any place as nice for the cost.

My husband and I stayed at this resort for 4 days. We enjoyed this property so much. It is very quite with alot of nature in the middle of happening Key West. There is everything you need right around the corner we walked to Starbucks every morning...the hotel did offer coffee pool side and coffee pots in the rooms however, we enjoy Starbucks had to do it! Kellie's Bar is a couple of Doors down which has great food!! The front desk made our stay they were very nice and welcoming. I would say that it is not updated but I found it very clean. We stayed in the "tree house" awesome one bedroom condo...lots of stairs not recommended for someone who can not do stairs or someone who has a TON of luggage. The deck on the tree house was huge with 2 lounge chairs and a table with four chairs. Give this place a chance it has alot of history and very quite!!!

Nice setting in Old Key West, All the action is just outside your door but very peaceful on the grounds and in your room. Two quiet swimming pools, nice historic building and lots of shade. One block away from all the fun. Great place to stay.

“Worst Experience”

The Banyan Resort

Mar 9, 2008

The outside appearance of the hotel is attractive but that's about the only redeeming quality.
When booking our room we were not informed that during our stay the fire marshall would be doing their annual check. We receive a call to inform us that alarms would be going off in about 10 minutes. We assumed this would last perhaps and hour. After an hour of brain searing alarms we called to inquire how much longer and were informed that it would "continue ALL day." A credit was offered but 2 people in our party were sick with the flu with fever exceeding 103 and the discomfort of not being able to rest was just unreal. I find it hard to believe that they were not aware of this date being scheduled for a fire check when we were booking.

Due to people being ill we asked for a late check out and were granted a 2 hours extension; set for 1:00. At 12:59 we were APPROACHED at our open door by one of the staff that we had to be out! Our door was open and bags were sitting in plain sight yet this gentleman talked to us as if we were an inconvience. Then a call proceed to inform us to get out. It was the most unprofessional thing I've ever experienced. OUT RIGHT RUDE!

This place cost almost $400 a night. And was just unfathonable!
The interior is old and outdated, it appears to not have been renovated since the late 80's, filthy carpet and floors;and the service from the staff is lousy and rude. NO sundries in rooms, eg. shampoo., etc. It was large 2 bedroom suite that was quite expensive. DO NOT waste your money. There are too many other places to stay.

“Do not stay here!!!! Beware this is not a luxury resort”

The Banyan Resort

This was a terrible place to stay....I took my wife and two kids here for 4 days. The place was filthy dirty. The entry smelled like urine and there were stains on the tile in the kitchen and the entry tiles. The carpets were even worse. The dark green carpet had stains that when you rubbed with a paper towell came up on the towell. The toilet had urine stains all around the base and also came up with a little scrubbing. The kitchen and bathroom counters and floors were crawling with ants, wich was not suprising at this point seeing how well the place was cleaned. Every light fixture had dead bug bodies in them, not just a few ..
This Luxury Resort had the worst bed I have ever slept in..The street would have been more comfortable and probably cleaner.
They had one other room available and we looked at it but it had ants as well and was no cleaner. I wanted to take my family to someplace nice and a little different and I was very dissapointed. We could and should have stayed somewhere else. We were in key west to see a sick relative and this was not a very healthy place to be in. As we left and were getting our bags they were running sanders and power equipment next to the tiki bar where people were trying to sit and enjoy the day. This was typical of the whole hotel. It was way too much money. This Luxury Resort Hotel was a dump. I am angry that I trusted them to provide a clean, safe place for my family while staying in Key West.

Management Response
BanyanResort, Assistant General Manager
(Management representative)
Feb 27, 2008
It is unfortunate that we were unable to make this guest happy during their stay at The Banyan, despite having made every attempt. We realize that we may not be able to please 100% of our guests 100% of the time; however, we strive to resolve any issues brought to our attention to the guests’ satisfaction, as we did in this case.

Our Maintenance Staff re-caulked the base of the toilet to replace the existing yellowing caulk, which could not be scrubbed clean. Rest assured these were certainly not urine stained, nor were the entry tiles. Since we had just cleaned the stain on the carpet to which this guest referred, they were lifting the moisture from the cleaning solution we used while attempting to treat and remove an ultimately indelible stain. We are in the midst of upgrading the carpeting in all of our units to carpet tiles, which are not only recyclable but can also be removed and replaced when stains as this cannot be cleaned. Carpet tiles will make it even easier for us to prevent this type of issue in the future.

Although we participate in an active extermination program by a licensed exterminator, insects of all species are a constant battle in the tropics. However, any exterminator will tell you there is no fool-proof way to prevent the common sugar ant, absent using a product that is administered on a piece of paper that needs to remain intact. The obvious problem with that treatment is that it can easily find its way into a child’s mouth. Furthermore, we deep-clean every unit as vacancies allow, which includes removing light fixtures and cleaning them, but we cannot guarantee that bugs will not enter the light fixtures which attract them nightly. We also gladly cleaned them out upon this guests’ request.

Additionally, we replaced all the mattresses on the sleeper sofas and in the majority of the bedrooms in February 2007. Everyone has their own preference when it comes to mattresses and we make every effort to accommodate each guest as best as possible. We often provide eggshell toppers to soften, or boards to increase firmness, if a guest informs us of the issue while they are here.

The Banyan Resort is comprised of several historic houses that have been converted into unique suites and available work space is minimal at best. Most guests of The Banyan Resort are very satisfied with our cleanliness, value and comfort.
