Booked flights to Miami and later decided to go to the Florida Keys. Had anticipated staying at a few different locations for the 8 days we were there but had underestimated how expensive the Keys and South Florida would be so in the end booked the Ramada for 8 days as it was the cheapest within the quality range that we wanted.
Ramada was fine for 8 days as we did not get bored once, it would also suit a short or over night stop. To get the most out of the location you need to stay for a few days. Ramada has nice big hotel rooms with a v comfy bed. We had requested a corner room and received 299 which had great views over the marina for a lesser cost than a full Marina view - but we reckoned we had a full Marina view anyway.
Ramada is located on a marina with 2 other hotels - Marina Del Mar and Holiday Inn. Definitely pleased went with Ramada as it was the cheapest of the 3 and you can use all the facilities of the others. The pool bar in the evening at Holiday Inn was very pleasant and we spent pool time at the Marina Del Mar as it was quieter than Holiday Inn and much bigger than Ramada.
The Marina was great and we literally stepped out of the hotel and onto the boat tours. We did fishing and snorkelling but there was also a glass bottom boat tour. Reasonable prices although we didnt realize until the end of the week that the Marina Del Mar had booklets with discount vouchers in it for all the trips we had done. We could have saved around $40, in total but not to worry we'll know next time!
Breakfast was fine, not the best i've ever had and a pretty cramped dining area, but i didnt expect it to great for the price. Perfectly acceptable and plenty of choice of continental foods - fresh juice, tea & coffee, cereals, fruit, toast & bagels, pastries/cakes. You can take breakfast back to your room if you wish.
On recommendation we went to the Fish House and Fish House Encore restauraunts for dinner and had some really lovely local fresh fish and would thoroughly recommend both. Restaurants were 2.5 miles north from hotel so not far in the car. We also tried the restaurant further round the Marina, cant remember the name maybe Sharkey's. It looks pretty average but we were really impressed by quality of food (fish and steak) as this meant more to us than quantity.
Ramada is conveniently located near convenience stores which are within walking distance and also near a very good American diner Mrs Mac's Kitchen, about 0.5 mile south.
From Ramada we were able to go to the Alligator farm in the Everglades and take an airboat tour and also Key West just for the day. Most people would go at least overnight to Key West which we would probably have preferred but it would have been more expensive. We set off early and it only took 2 hours to drive and we had an excellent time. Would definitely recommend visiting Key West.
In summary Ramada is a good base for a week long stay but also good for a shorter stop. Great to be able to stay at the cheaper hotel and use facilities of the others - pool bar, pool, internet, bar and restaurants. Marina excellent for doing some boat trips and well placed for convenience stores and other amenities.
