“Thank God.. The Plaza Saved Us!”

Plaza Resort and Spa

5 of 5 stars
Lakeland, FL
May 19, 2008

We just returned from a WONDERFUL weekend in Daytona Beach, FL and it would be a different story if it hadn't been for the Plaza Resort and Spa.

We originally booked our stay at the El Caribe. I found favorable reviews, but it wasn't true. We aren't that picky, but it was not what we were looking for my wife's 26th birthday.

The Plaza was more than we were looking for and very competively priced. We were able to get into a room that night with no problem and enjoyed the extremely clean facilities and beach. The hotel is a short walk to the pier and also located on a section of beach that vehicles cannot drive on. It was a beautiful weekend and wonderful stay! I highly recommend it!

“Silverfish ugh!”

Arriving to the hotel we thought it was going to be a pretty nice stay. We arrived on a Thursday, everything was okay, the room was decent. The bathrooms were not clean and I later found out that my husband killed 4 silverfish in the shower! By Friday all he** broke loose. Appearantly they hold a lot of conventions there. This particular weekend it was a metal detector convention with hundreds of metal detector people blocking the view of the ocean. Then the partiers arrived. We were lucky enough to have a room right next to a huge group of young drunk kids. We asked to have our room switched and they were unable to do that because the hotel was so full from all the metal detectors!

Needless to say, we were not happy with this resort and moved to another one. And they still charged us the day we left, so we had to pay for two different hotels on the same day. We left and went to The Shores. That place was a dream!

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The pool was nice, and the beach was nice when not covered with metal detector people.
    • Disliked — The silverfish and the fact they let people come there to party and be as loud as they would like.

“Too much noise!”

Plaza Resort and Spa

1 of 5 stars
NW Florida
Apr 28, 2008

Our decision to stay here was based on an event at the resort. We were given a room at the front of the resort on the 10th floor. We might as well have been sleeping on the street with all the noise echoing from the main drag. The first night we had to try to sleep to the sound of vehicles parading up and down the strip until 3 in the morning. The single paned windows (which were dirty) did little to block the sound. The only thing that masked the sound of the street was the noisy air conditioner which sounded like a plane taking off (which was pleasant when compared to the loud exhausts blaring down the street).

The second night, we were used to the street noise but awoke at midnight to people (obviously drunk) out in the hall taking to the top of their lungs and slamming doors. This went on until 3 in the morning in spite to numerous calls to the front desk. The first time I called (after trying to sleep through this for an hour), the attendant replied "again?!" which indicated that more guests had already called and complained. Due to the cracks in the bottom, sides and top of the doors all sounds in the halls echoes into your room.

The beds were nice, bathroom suitable, large screen TV with so-so cable reception. I had no problem with the room just the noise. But then again, I stayed there to sleep and that was not possible due the noise problem. I won't make that same mistake again! You have been warned.

“Location, Location, Location”

Plaza Resort and Spa

Apr 26, 2008

We stayed a week at this property and you can't beat the location on Daytona beach. The hotel and surrounding property was clean. The pool was beautiful overlooking the beach.
However, with that being said, this hotel does lack good customer service. I had read another review before we booked about the bad service at this hotel and chalked it up to one person's bad experience. It's true. The front desk does their job, but they certainly don't go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
The first night we were there we discovered the sheets were dirty and called down to the front desk to have the bed changed. We waited a half hour for housecleaning to arrive with new sheets and WE had to change the sheets ourselves! And we had a minor problem with the maid on our floor upon leaving the hotel. We took our bags to the car and left some other stuff in the room to retrieve a few minutes later. In those few minutes the maid helped herself to the alcohol we had left in the fridge. She didn't take anything else or clean anything, she just took some beer. My husband had to track her down while cleaning another room and ask for it back. She didn't deny it and gave it back to him, but how bizarre. She knew we hadn't left yet since half our stuff was still in the room. And we were greeted with the same unfriendly attitude upon checking out at the front desk. Thankfully we didn't have to deal with the hotel service much during the week. They don't have a monopoly on the beautiful beach area so next time we will most likely try a different place. For the money you expect better service.

“Bad Hotel in Great Location”

Plaza Resort and Spa

Apr 15, 2008

THE GOOD

The hotel looks quite nice on the exterior and is in right on the beach. I had an ocean view room with a fantastic view. Also, the beach itself is great! I was stormy when I was there, but the water was warm and the beach area very large.

THE BAD

Half of my room had soaked carpet the whole time I was there. That seems common in other reviews too. The rooms service food was not very good and they got my order wrong but would not answer the phone or return calls. Like many hotels, the room has an HDTV, but no HD content/programming - which means it just looks worse than a normal TV probably would. I also had some incorrect charges on my credit card when I returned home which I had to call about. They did eventually refund them though.

WOULD I STAY HERE AGAIN?

Probably Not.
