“Bellisimo Grande - OK for the money”

We stayed there on a weeknight. It is a newer hotel working out the kinks. The listed rate on websites is $129, we found a rate in a travel book (available at rest stops and Mcdonalds) for $79.

After finding this listed elsewhere, I cancelled my inital reservation through a hotel booking site and booked the $79 rate through the hotel directly. I asked them to email me confirmation of the reservation, which they never did.....On the date we were staying there I called to confirm, and they lost the reseration. My mistake I did not write down the confirmation number, I was driving when I called. Fortunately, they still had a room available.

The rooms are very clean and somewhat modern. Tempurpedic beds and a flat screen tv. The spa is overpriced and the pool is very small. The continental breakfast was ok, the toasters were not working. This hotel is comparable to a Hampton Inn, so don't expect much more than that for $79. Not bad for a few nights, but not a vacation destination.

“Nice new hotel, few kinks to work out”

Bellissimo Grande Hotel & Spa

Stayed at the hotel for two nights in a Standard room.

Positives: Brand new hotel (so new that all of the plants on the parking lot ground still had tags on them), clean, decent sized room, nice lobby with piano and continental breakfast area (free breakfast includes pastries, cereal, bagels, juice, coffee, tea and oatmeal), flat screen tv, good sized shower with curved rod, blackout curtains, king sized Tempurpedic matresses. Can recommend nearby local ice cream store called Olivia's and Mystic Pizza II. Free limo to Foxwoods.

Negatives: Tiny fitness area (one small room, no windows - with two treadmills and an elliptical trainer, a weight rack and bench) that HAD ZERO VENTILATION OR A/C. It was at least 80-85 degrees in there. Pretty small pool. Hotel should consider providing a second garbage can in the room so you don't have to keep going back and forth to use the bathroom garbage. Agree with earlier review - for average $150+ a night, toiletries should be of a higher standard (Pantene and Vaseline brands). When the room was cleaned after the first night, they left us with no shampoo and when I asked one of the staff in the hall with a cart, she totally freaked on me and refused to give me a bottle, instructing me to go find the person who cleans the rooms on my end of the hall to get a bottle.

Note: The spa is very small, two treatment rooms.

Would I stay here again? Maybe. Hopefully the management will read this and address the issues that I have with the hotel. I feel these issues would improve my overall satisfaction with the hotel and would compel me to return.

“Good choice if casino hotels are not available”

Had planned on going to foxwoods at the last minute on 7/7/07, big mistake! We didn't even make it there, due to the fact that half of New England was visiting the casinos that day. Anyways, we saw that this hotel had a vacancy, so we figured we'd give it a try.

First let me just say that if I was given the choice between staying here, or staying at one of the two casino, I would definately choose staying at the casino; but if that isn't an option, then this place would definately be the next best thing.

Our room was nice. Comfortable bed, nicely decorated, clean, etc. The free breakfast, was nothing to write home about, but it was free, so who cares.

The staff at the front desk were not the friendliest people I've ever encountered, but they were okay. The only thing that I would like the hotel to improve is their toiletrie offerings. All they had was basic shampoo, conditioner, and soap like you would find at a days inn. Since they are trying to be nicer than that, it would make sense for them to offer fancier toiletries.

“Will definitely return!”

Bellissimo Grande Hotel & Spa

We stayed at the Bellissimo Grande for 1 night last week. This is a brand new hotel that opened in April 2007. It is located very close to Foxwoods Casino and offers a complimentary limo service that runs back and forth to the casino until midnight. It is also in a fantastic location if you are planning to visit the Mashantucket Pequot Indian Museum, which is close by.

It is an Italian-themed hotel, which is somewhat bizarre considering that North Stonington is a tiny little village, and basically what this means is Italian frescos in the lobby when you enter and slightly more appealing rooms that you would expect from the average hotel. We stayed in the basic room, called a Sicillian suite, which was a generous size and had a king size bed; the walls were covered in an attractive bronzed wallpaper, and the bathroom was well-designed. Our biggest complaint was the dim lighting - the rooms was lit only by bedside lamps and the bathroom was too shadowy and dim to allow for a good view in the mirror, such as is needed for applying makeup.

Given that the hotel is so new, our room was SPOTLESS, which was hugely appealing. There was a large, flat screen television on the wall opposite the bed. The room offered an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, and safe, although no luggage rack. Apparently, however, luggage racks are on order for the hotel. The hotel charges a daily fee for the safe, even if you don't use it.

The bed was VERY comfortable (despite it not being a tempur-pedic mattress - these are available only in the more expensive rooms). Unfortunately, the air conditioner was very noisy and switched on and off throughout the night according to the thermostate, and we found that we were woken regularly through the night by the unit switching back on. A solution to this would be to set the thermostat to a very low temperature to avoid the unit turning off at night (assuming you like a cold room, as we do!). We requested extra pillows from the front desk, which arrived at our door in moments, so we were quite pleased with the service. Breakfast was uninspiring but quite plentiful, with a choice of 2 cold cereals, yogurt, juice, English muffins, and danishes.

We paid $59 for our room, which was an absolute steal. The publicized rate for the room at this time of year midweek was $99. We got our rate with a coupon from Room Saver magazine, which contains coupons for hotels all over the northeastern US and is available free of charge at rest stops all along the major highways. If you are planning to vacation in the northeast by car, then this magazine is a must, particularly was it offers substantial savings for this hotel.

All in all, we were quite pleased by our stay here, and we would definitely return to it on our next trip to Connecticut.
