Just got back from a 4 night stay at the Lodge - it was truly fabulous. The only negative we encountered was a rather rude front desk clerk upon check-in, but everything else worked out great. We went with another couple (both of us are Platinum members) and booked Marriott Rewards stays. The hotel was completely sold out with a wedding, Range Rover convention and the Napa/Sonoma Half Marathon. We were in Room 113 and our friends were in cottage D1. The cottage was actually an upgrade, but there was virtually no difference between the 2 rooms. Our room was even a little bigger. Great location, all the way at the end of the hall, yet not too far from the lobby. Just a few steps from the pool area.

We are breakfast at Carneros each morning and had the most wonderful waitress each day. She remembered us and even managed to get me an "off the menu" muffin I had loved so much the day before. When I told her how much I liked it, she returned with the recipe! She was wonderful.

We had a slight mix up with our bill at the end of our stay. We were supposed to get free breakfast, but managed to get charged for each one. They quickly said they would take care of it and have all charges removed.

The spa was excellent. There is a private pool/whirlpool area included with any spa treatment and it was beautiful. Gorgeous gardens. I had the 80 minute hot stone massage - it was fabulous.

The location is great for access to Napa, yet removed from all the hustle. I would definitely stay here again.

“Wonderful Hotel for a Weekend Getaway”

I booked this hotel as a last minute surprise for my husband. Using Priceline name your own price, I was able to get this hotel at over 50% off the rates published on the hotel website! Plus, when we checked in, we were upgraded from a Lodge room to a Cottage. We were in Cottage 14F (2nd floor). What a gorgeous room! It had a lovely, comfortable King bed with fireplace, sitting area, outdoor patio with cushioned chairs, soaking tub with bath salts and a nice shower with a rain shower head. Check in was quick, the pool looked wonderful and they had jazz in the evening and complimentary wine tasting. It is very close to the main plaza and I really loved all of the roses and beautiful landscaping. Would definitely stay here again -- especially if I could get a fantastic deal again.

the grounds are lovely. It's in a fair location to the square. The rooms are really pretty, complete with soaking tubs and lavendar bath salts. We had a very nice time, and lookforward to our return. The pool water was like a bath...very nice.

“Don't listen to the bad reviews - Great place!”

It was too bad we only got to stay here for one night on June 10, 2007 because it was an excellent experience. I have no idea where the bad reviews come from.

Check-in was quick, easy, and staff was very friendly. We reserved a cottage which I highly recommend and we were placed in cottage A5. This cottage was adorable and was in an excellent location. It was bottom floor right next to the pool. We had an amazing view of the vast rose gardens and beautful pool.

The room was excellent. Large open area and bathroom was nice as well. It had a little patio area where we could sit and drink some wine.

The grounds are amazing. There are flowers everywhere. The roses by the pool are vast and beautiful. The grass was cut nice and short and very well maintained.

I don't know where people stayed when they say that this resort is right off a very busy major road that is so loud. The road is a major road but its small, not an expressway or anything. There was no noise anywhere we were. We really did feel like we were in the middle of nowhere, it was great.

The resort is excellent and I would stay here again without a doubt and I do highly recommend it.

“Very comfortable hotel in charming Sonoma”

The Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort & Spa

We stayed 3 nights mid week at this hotel in early June. We did have a cottage room (nicely surprised with an upgrade - it was an anniversary trip). The room was very large, with a great bed, soaking tub, and shower with rain forest showerhead.

The pool area was nice, usually quiet, and great for relaxing.

I did not think this hotel was on a "busy" road. It was on the main road leading into the Sonoma plaza, but I wouldn't call it that busy (at least not what I am used to) and the rooms are nearly all set back anyway.

We actually enjoyed staying in this part of town because we could easily drive to the Plaza (a large square with a park in the middle and many restaurants and shops around it). The hotel also had a free shuttle that drove you to the Plaza and would pick you up (you just needed to call and request it come back for you). The drive was maybe 3 minutes long.

It was also a great starting point for touring the wine areas of either Sonoma or Napa. It was relaxing and quiet. There was also a free tasting daily in The Cellar, a shop run on the property.

Unfortunately, I did not have time to check out the spa.

We didn't eat at the property, but they did have a "Proudly brew Starbucks" area in the lobby. The concierge was very helpful with maps and advice. If you are there on a Tuesday, the farmer's market is wonderful. The whole town seems to picnic and shop and you can even buy dinner food from some of the vendors. Also, after several fancy meals out, we ate the last night at the Red Grape (on the Plaza) and it was wonderful casual place (also inexpensive) for thin crust pizzas and pastas.
