“Great Change Of Pace”

The Wharf Master's Inn

I would call this place a cross between a hotel and a B&B. As I traveled through Northern CA, I stayed in a number of hotels/motels and this one was a nice change. In the dark, the place was very difficult to find...the town of Point Arena is somewhat run down, so, having booked the place based on a quick Internet search, I became a little nervous as I drove through the town several times trying to find the correct road. However, I was pleasantly surprised once I checked in. I stayed in the cheapest grade of room ($80/night), but received much more for my money than at more expensive chain motels. It was spacious and had a much more homey feel than a typical hotel. The soaking tub was very nice after two straight days of walking San Francisco hills. The breakfast in the morning was also decent by typical "continental breakfast" standards. The only negative was that without a shower, it was difficult to wash my hair in the tub. They did not have Internet access in the rooms, but I was able to connect via a wireless connection in the area. The place was very peaceful and safe and I loved walking down the hill to the water in the morning.

“Wonderful stay, great value, unique!”

The Wharf Master's Inn

I selected a few nights at the Wharf Master's Inn in late August. I had the opportunity to begin a road trip in Napa, and I needed a good dose of Route 1 as far north as I could go in an afternoon. This puts me along the Mendocino coast.

For lodging, I was looking for a unique place away from a major road, directly on the coast, affordable and relaxing. Wharf Master's was a very good choice. It sits perched on the side of a cliff overlooking a charming view. I selected the room with the nicest view -worth it!

Their website actually tells it like it is, the photos are real, the text speaks true. The room was large, the decor was fresh, not shabby, and the view was fulfilling. It was especially stunning when the fog rolled in. The room had a jacuzzi tub, a large balcony and the most comfortable bed in history.

Brandon at the front desk was accomodating and friendly. He reccomended both the restaurant (The Arena Cove) and pizza joint (Cosmic Pizza) at the bottom of the hill-they were both great. Get the Combination Pizza, it was seriously amazing.

The Point Arena lighthouse is a smart visit, and it's only a few miles up the coast. The view from the top is awesome! The town of Point Arena did nothing for me, but that's not why I went there.

I'm going back.

“A Wonderful Spot on the Mendocino Coast”

The Wharf Master's Inn

We recently returned to the Wharfmaster's Inn after many years. We had always fondly remembered our first visit there, and when looking for a nice spot to celebrate a birthday, thought of it again. Different from a lot of inns or hotels that are a bit too pretentious or expensive, this is a beautiful spot in the real world. Set high above a fishing pier, a good mile off the coast road and well away from the sound of that traffic, sits this gem. It's not fancy, but the rooms do have jacuzzi tubs and fireplaces with quiet and views. With breakfast and tax you spend $110-165 if you check their website for specials. On our recent visit, the extra customer service we received from Scott alone, would keep us coming back and passing this tip along to friends and relatives. He helped make it a really, special birthday celebration diplomatically moving us to a room that was more like what we'd requested than the one we were originally blocked into.

“Affordable luxury on the CA coast!”

The Wharf Master's Inn

We stayed at the inn for two nights while attending a friend's wedding. It was so much nicer than we had expected! We had a huge room with a fabulous, cozy bed, two-person tub, balcony with peak-a-boo ocean view, and fireplace for about $110/night!! We thought it was an incredible deal for a coastal area in Northern CA. If you're expecting the Ritz, you might be disappointed, but if you're interested in a little affordable luxury, this is the place.

The town of Point Arena is not thrilling, but we enjoyed walking the small business district. We loved having pizza by candlelight while looking at the ocean at the cute pizza place just at the bottom of the hill from the inn.

The continental breakfast was just okay - but given that it comes with the room, I have no complaints.

We'll definitely be back for spontaneous romantic rendevous in the near future!

“Very Nice Hotel for fireworks”

The Wharf Master's Inn

Jul 27, 2005

I stayed at the wharfmasters inn for the 4th of july weekend and i must say that, for that time of year, this place was very nice. After having read some of the previous posts about the hotel, i was hesitant about staying there, but i have family in the area and it was the nicest available. After checking in, i went to my room and was awe struck at the gorgeous view. On sunday the third, there was a street fair down the hill from us preceding the fireworks. I spent all day going to the little street shops to see the homemade art and shirts etc. Shortly after dark, the fireworks started and for such a small town the display was intense. The arena cove is of such a shape that the sound of the fireworks was focused on the crowd and the clear night sky allowed us to see all the vibrant shimmer colors of the various fireworks. I decided on the next day to meander up the coast and cancelled my last day with no trouble at all. The rooms were well furnished and the staff was kind and considerate as well as informative. I would recommend this place to anyone.
