I stayed here for three nights as a sort of working "getaway" and to visit some friends instead of using the trip as a resort vacation. I am not one who believes that every single motel in a city needs to be renovated every two years or torn down, and because this kind of frequent renovating seems to be commonly demanded is why most properties now seem to be in the $100 to $300 range. For those who want to pay that kind of money, there are numerous places to stay. So where is "the rest of us" supposed to stay? (P.S. I'm not poor, just frugal.)
This Travelodge is a rather large property with four buildings, two swimming pools, a large hot tub, and plenty of parking. I like to stay in places that have balconies or patios, and this had them. I was given a second-story pool-side room with a balcony that also had a beautiful view of the close-by mountains. While I thought it was a bit chilly for swimming, there were people swimming in both pools and seemed to have a good time, so I think the pools were well-heated.
The front desk staff was extremely friendly upon both check-in and check-out. I was impressed by the maid service. The room was very clean and the maids also seemed to keep a sharp eye on when a room was available for cleaning. Every morning I went out for breakfast, and when I came back, the room had been cleaned. I've not usually had it work out that conveniently in other places.
Like every other place these days, this motel is seeking to conserve water and they have a handy little card you can place on the pillow if you don't require freshly-cleaned sheets every day (this is not imposed on you, it is your choice). I see nothing wrong with that and since I was going to be there for three nights, I thought all that was necessary was for the maid to make my bed and not have to change the sheets every day. That worked out okay. I did get fresh towels every day.
Despite being next to the pool (which I wanted), the room was quiet enough for me to work in. The bed at first felt a little hard, but I quickly realized that it gave me great support and each night I got a great night's sleep and woke up refreshed.
One thing I love getting these days is a free wireless Internet connection, and what they had here worked great.
Local phone calls are free for the first 20 minutes. They did add a daily charge of $1.50 for the in-room safe whether you use it or not, but that's a minor quibble.
Now, for some complaints--there were several light bulbs out, including whichever light is supposed to come on via the switch by the front door. I wish that part of the normal routine for a maid is to check every light bulb. There was no triple-outlet plug near the table, so I had to use the power strip that was near the TV and have my computer's power cord spread across the room. At least they had that power strip, though! Also, the table, that I was using as a desk, had quite a wobble to it. Previous guests had wedged folded pieces of paper under the supporting column, but that didn't help much. While I don't believe the whole hotel should be renovated, I do think this particular piece of furniture needs to be repaired or replaced.
I agree with other reviewers that there was something peculiar about the air conditioner/heater's thermostat. I never could quite get the temperature right with frequent adjusting.
All in all, though, as others have written, you get what you pay for. If you, like me, want to attempt to keep your nightly rate below $100, this hotel is fine and provides several other nice amenities, too, and one can realistically overlook the minor faults.
